UFC 148 |OT| Shattering the myth that is Anderson Silva - 7.7.2012

Except he tried that again in the 2nd round and Silva wasn't having any of it.

Honestly it was some damn impressive take down defense in the 2nd round. That's what won the match. If chael hadn't missed the spinning fist he would have lost omewhere else as silva had control then.

I wouldn't mind a 3rd fight. Would be nice to see though highly doubtful it'll happen. Anderson is one of UFC's poster boys. This fight only happened because of the last one and Chael's shit talking. I doubt Chael would talk as much shit for a 3rd and it really doesn't even matter now. Oh well.

Sonnen would beat GSP so I don't see GSP having a chance against Silva.
Only Jones would be a good fight (and Jones could very easily win).

If it has to stay at MW then I think a fit Belfort could be intersting. The first fight didn't last long enough to get an idea of how he'd fair.

Not saying I think he'd win but it'd be interesting at least.

Joe had Dana in his earpiece telling him to say it was legal.

Why did the UFC choose not to show the replay more than that, huh? Usually, they'll show a kill shot like that from every possible angle multiple times. Here, they suddenly have to get everyone out of the Octagon ASAP and show a prelim fight...that's...mysterious.

Really?
That is what you are going with?

This is gettin' good.

Ain't happening.

What the hell... did sonnen have a heart attack? Or were there a ton of massive blows before that?

He falls....instantly..

edit;

eh I guess the gif is slow yea? maybe it hurt.

It was after he took the knee to the body, he was hurting pretty badly I guess

I doubt we'll get a 3rd fight considering how silly Chael looked once his takedowns were stopped. Besides, we only have probably a couple Silva fights left. He's 37 years old. I NEED to see him fight Michael Bisping at some point too just to see the Count get demolished.

Sooooo salty.

oh boy. Rogan thought it was illegal at first until the replay.

regardless he easily won the first round but you can't make mistakes against silva. Chael gave the blueprint though. Get inside, stay inside.

There is no blueprint. Silva looked comfortable on his back and sonnen did nothing other than lay on top and miss.

Well if Dana was in his ear he would have Joe saying it was illegal so they could set up a 3rd fight. Sonnen v Silva 3 makes more money than anyone else Silva could fight in the division.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. The angle they show makes it look like Chael ate the knee on his chin.

Once again, what did Silva do in the first round? He was dominated by the shear fact that he spent 5 minutes on his back. Sonnen fucked up by trying to stand up. If he took it to the ground again it would have been more of the same.

Sonnen didn't fuck up, he got fucked up. Significant difference. He didn't choose to stand with Silva. Sonnen ran into problems when he realized he could not take Silva down in the second round. Silva was stuffing those attempts and once Sonnen felt a proper Spider punch, he shat his pants and it was all over.

It was clean and right on the chest. Legal hit right there.

Jesus christ.

he was beaten to death :\

poor sonnen. His blows don't seem to do much to silva, as he got one in before being pummeled more.

And the knee doesn't touch his face. Zoom in on the gif ctrl+ if u want.

Yeah I want that fight too but I didn't see Chael as "silly" once his takedowns were stopped. He hit Anderson with a clean straight just before his slip. While I personally didn't have Chael winning this one or even getting close, I was surprised by the 1st round and part of the 2nd. I'd welcome another rematch, but that sure isn't going to happen.

Does it? Will people buy into a 3rd fight? What is the point.

On sonnen's best day and silva's worst silva beat him. In the 2nd fight silva embarrassed him. Dont need to see a 3rd fight when one guy has already won twice with the most recent fight not even being close.

Michael Bisping deserves a fight v sonnen. He was robbed in there fight!!

Someone explain to me how and why Cheal died on that right hook that barely touched him. It's confusing the fuck out of me due to his super late reaction to the punch.

Silva could have had a nap with Sonnen in full mount and still not get touched. I wouldn't be surprised if he just wanted to make him get comfortable.

Worst $55 dollars I've spent in awhile--win or lose, I expected this match to go longer based on the hype of the first one. The Forrest/Tito fight was great though. The other 3 matches were bleh.

Chael had me excited about this sport in ways I never had been in the past--the hype for this rematch was building for almost a year!

I'm actually not angry and tbh, if Chael had won, I wouldn't have ordered another PPV until he fought again, methinks.

There is literally not a single person in the UFC that I would pay PPV prices to see.

Thanks for the entertaining thread, guys.

If Chael truly is retired, I'm retired too.

so silva won that first round yes/no?

if the fight was five rounds of that would silva win yes/no?

5 rounds of that would of been BS. That would of been so damn boring and a hollow victory at best. laying on top of a guy and doing nothing else is not dominating.

Which right hook? If its the one from the gif above id guess it catches him quite well but it's not the best angle. Plus he'd already taken some hits by then. Chael really isn't great at taking damage and Anderson has some next level power or some kind of magical strength in his fists which just kill you.

He was getting hit hard when Silva was stuffing his take down, then broke his nose and then ate a huge knee after he missed the spinning back fist. Do you guys think all those strikes don't hurt?
