UFC 148 |OT| Shattering the myth that is Anderson Silva - 7.7.2012

Joe had Dana in his earpiece telling him to say it was legal.

Why did the UFC choose not to show the replay more than that, huh? Usually, they'll show a kill shot like that from every possible angle multiple times. Here, they suddenly have to get everyone out of the Octagon ASAP and show a prelim fight...that's...mysterious.

5 rounds of that would of been BS. That would of been so damn boring and a hollow victory at best. laying on top of a guy and doing nothing else is not dominating.

I never said he was dominating. I said that's the blueprint to be inside. so you admit you are wrong and he would have lost. thanks.

Worst $55 dollars I've spent in awhile--win or lose, I expected this match to go longer based on the hype of the first one. The Forrest/Tito fight was great though. The other 3 matches were bleh.

Chael had me excited about this sport in ways I never had been in the past--the hype for this rematch was building for almost a year!

I'm actually not angry and tbh, if Chael had won, I wouldn't have ordered another PPV until he fought again, methinks.

There is literally not a single person in the UFC that I would pay PPV prices to see.

Thanks for the entertaining thread, guys.

If Chael truly is retired, I'm retired too.

There is no way he will retire.
He has the best take downs and ground game in the division.
Nobody ever questioned that.
His problem was his mouth.

regardless he easily won the first round but you can't make mistakes against silva. Chael gave the blueprint though. Get inside, stay inside.

I dunno, I think that gameplay is not going to be as effective anymore. Silva stuffed him a number of times in the 2nd, and looked fine on his back in the 1st. Outside of Jon Jones and GSP, I don't think there is anyone who has the kind of takedowns and wrestling that could pose a problem for Silva now. Certainly no one in the division who could try it like Chael, a guy who has a pretty great chin that can eat a few punches to try for the takedown.

Does it? Will people buy into a 3rd fight? What is the point.

On sonnen's best day and silva's worst silva beat him. In the 2nd fight silva embarrassed him. Dont need to see a 3rd fight when one guy has already won twice with the most recent fight not even being close.

Michael Bisping deserves a fight v sonnen. He was robbed in there fight!!

If they had really hyped that it was an illegal knee, I think it would have been an easy set up. Of course this doesn't matter in the end since the knee wasn't illegal.

I love my country, but Sonnen was such a disrespectful piece of shit, and his disrespect towards Silva cost him his victory yet again, I'd love to see an American champion in Silva's weight class, but Sonnen is not that person. I am happy to see Silva win once more!

So, you would only order the PPV to see a guy lay on people and land weak punches round after round?

He was getting hit hard when Silva was stuffing his take down, then broke his nose and then ate a huge knee after he missed the spinning back fist. Do you guys think all those strikes don't hurt?

Calm down, LOL. I'm not questioning AS or anything like that. It just looked like that one punch flaked him and he went down in what looked like a rather late reaction.

Chael should really just go to the WWE, and I don't mean that in a disparaging way. The guy has a knack for promos. I don't really know where he goes from here. Based on this performance, I don't really see how you justify an immediate rematch, though, I would like to see it.

He could have been the nicest guy in the world and Anderson would have still beat him. All his "disrespect' really did was make both he and Anderson a whole lot richer.

He cuts promos like he's in the NWA circa 1989

Chael crumples right after the hook lands, and he had already taken some damage before that.

chael back to the B leagues - unless his mouth can win over casuals again (heel, chamber, yaco, etc)

I think ryu is saying he needs a reason to care about the fights. Which is perfectly valid. The UFC's tendency to just put Joe vs Joe and expect people to watch has become a running joke amongst the UFC-GAF regulars. Who wants to pay money for this shit when most of the fights don't actually mean anything?

It's hard to give your contrary opinion weight when there's a gif that shows the knee never touching his face.

Does it? Really? I see it going right through his hands. Then the knee gets obscured. Then I see Sonnen's head go back.

Are you saying NO PART of Silva's leg contacts Sonnen's chin?

Really?

Because that's what the rules are on what constitutes a kick or a knee. The whole leg.

Someone explain to me how and why Cheal died on that right hook that barely touched him. It's confusing the fuck out of me due to his super late reaction to the punch.

I think it was the kick right before that. If UFC had slo-mo X-Ray vision like Mortal Kombat, you'd see Sonnen's right kidney burst in a glorious blood/plasma/urine mess.

If you're interested in fun fights, Chael is not the guy to root for. If you want WWE shit, watch WWE.

I wasn't trying to say it was easy just that it's the way to win. having a weak division doesnt really effect the argument unless you are trying to name contenders. Has GSP even expressed interest? I doubt that fight could or would ever happen.

His problem was his mouth.

You're missing the point though.

His mouth is why he was memorable to me.

Besides Silva, Griffin and Ortiz, I couldn't tell you 3 fighters' names that I just saw fight.

If he was just Chael Sonnen quiet fighter, I wouldn't have remembered him either (or cared about this fight, tbh)

so silva won that first round yes/no?

if the fight was five rounds of that would silva win yes/no?

He would have won, but it's extremely hard to go 5 rounds without Anderson landing a good hit on you. Sonnen managed to avoid it in the first match, but his luck ran out this time.

And as we saw, the second Anderson hit him it was over.

Yup, you know damn well Anderson is happy as hell. Money out the ass for this fight and getting to defend Brazil.

Not at all. Silva would be more likely to sub Chonnen from the bottom than chonnen would be of winning the fight like that.

Give ryu a break. He said he only bought it cos of Sonnens hype and admitted that. He saw the card and didn't really enjoy it or see enough to have him come back for more. Fair enough. It wasn't the best card but he obv came at it from an angle different to most UFC fans. Fair enough, thanks for watching and maybe try and tune in on another big card, UFC can be thoroughly entertaining just on the fights alone.

Not interested in a 3rd fight. What else is there to see really. Chael had his second chance tonight, and Anderson outclassed him. It's done.

Mma gaf is such a shitty board. Trollzone.
sonnen slipped on a spinning backfist and got killed. Big deal.
Where does Silva go from here? John bones Jones would kill Silva's bitch ass. Jones the wrestler and striker. Fuck Silva. God dammit that was fucking bullshit.

Good.

I saw it mentioned already but I would be down to see Bisping/Sonnen 2. The first fight was boring but the end was bullshit.
I know a lot of people here hate Bisping, but I have a feeling that he would put on a better fight.
