Let's please not play the "damage" game. If you are going to go that route I'd really have to question how much MMA you actually watch.
GSP did have boring fights. He played the same game. So did Anderson. Actually, against Maia it was probably one of the worst MMA fights ever. Nothing wrong with that. If it's bad, it's bad. Why should he sugar coat it?
And you hit the point. He did enough to win the fight. That's it. Might as well leave it there. He went in happy to just win. Is it wrong that most people enjoy fighters that go out to finish fights? I love how a grappler is one dimensional and doesn't make a fight for Woodley....and a standup guy is one dimensional and doesn't make a fight for Woodley. Who should he fight then??????
Again the point that's missed here, and the point that Dana made, is that he could have easily won....easily...and done more. But he didn't. And that says a lot about him. Everything else aside, maybe Dana criticized him hoping that would ensure this doesn't happen again. Dana is a promoter. Hard to promote a product people find boring. He doesn't promote "Woodley will go out and outpoint that guy!". If Woodley wants to do that, that's great. If Dana doesn't want that, then Woodley is shit out of luck correct? What's Dana supposed to educate people on? "Well, he, uh, well he had a lot of takedown attempts he pulled his legs out of!". In the end I agree that styles can make fights. I agree that this was never going to be Lawler/Cerrone. But I don't agree to make excuses for someone who's paid to fight. He could have done more, a lot more, and still handily won.
