Cultural influence may play a role at the margins, but it's not overcoming billions of years of selective pressures.

There are a large number of empirical studies supporting the evolutionary psychological prediction that the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is an important attribute of female attractiveness because it predicts reproductive fitness.

Some people believe in a religion that calls this evolutionary fact sinful. And so we get this character design.

Asmon can be an absolute mouthbreather, which some very fucking stupid opinions (his comments on Gaza, for instance).

However... he is right about one thing: if you're going to create a product that has a pretty well defined target audience, you need to make sure that you make that product appeal to that target audience.

And, no matter how many people hate this, action adventure sci-fi video games that feature weapons, combat and high degrees of violence are mainly aimed at, and played by, straight dudes. This is something I keep repeating over and over on this forum, and I sometimes feel like I'm taking crazy pills that I have to do that.

I'm not saying Intergalactic isn't going to be successful... but they have created a rod for their own back by deliberately choosing to once again feature a main protagonist of a type that has proved to be very unpopular with their main target audience.

If I were a woman I'd never sign up to be in a Western game knowing they'd probably turn my likeness into an ugly slab of polygons. I mean, the Intergalactic actress is a RL baddie.. and Naughty Dog did her so damn dirty with that character design. It's almost like these people hate attractive women because they just keep doing this.

Studios recruiting blue whales and green goblin blm lgbtq activist know it alls who then plant agenda/political choices into their games and pander to their very very very vocal minority ilk is what's killing gaming.

Studios are full of devs who are in the gaming industry because "it's a job" and is an easy target for nutballs to get a job in where they fit in, Not because they love games and have passion.

It doesn't help that these studios are owned by greedy publishers who are not gamers they're businessmen and women who are thinking of new ways to promote dlc gaas and many other shitty practices to "farm" money out of customers, They also actively allow studios to destroy their own successful IP into absolute gay as fuck tripe like Dragon Age for example.

If I was EA I wouldn't have allowed it to happen in the first place but I would have fired them all and closed Bioware for good to even pitch a game like that.

But no it's people like Asmongold according to Rofif 🤣🤣🤣

Forget who's making the point. That doesn't really matter. Yes, Asmon is a bit of a cunt. But he's saying that games that don't appeal to the main target audience are more likely to fail. What's your opinion on that?

Half these discussions get utterly lost in attacks on the messenger, rather than the message.

I can relate to them, empathize and understand. The issue is that they are annoying and unlikeable.
Their (current crop of devs) flavour of MC archetype is old, grating and unlikeable to a sizeable chunk of their audience. Across Games, Movies, Comics and other entertainment.
He is correct, these people exist in real life and when you insert or create conditions for it to bleed into your game, immersion can be lost.

Law of averages, fuckin brutal.
It must sting a bit to see a good number of people vehemently dislike and reject you and your made up world view.
When they step out the door in the morning, the law of averages dictates that the people that pass them by likely wouldn't want to hang out with them. Fuckin brutal.

Yeah, the discussion around this game is absolutely full of its defenders using ad hominem and bitching about how other gamers are noticing trends in western character design. They can't fathom that someone else could genuinely have different tastes than them unless it stems from racism, sexism or a need to jerk off to the characters. IMO, it's pure projection.

I think that's probably because none of them want to engage with the substantive issue:

To have success, should game developers design games to appeal to the core demographic?

And I suppose they don't want to engage with it, because by any sensible metric, be it commercial or critical... the answer is always 'yes'.

So part of the reason people don't like him is because he makes a good chunk of his Asmongold content throwing insults at things. Okay. noted.

Yh that was a good point. I don’t know any women who play console games. I don’t know any women who have purchased a console for themselves. I have 3 generations of women in my family and even the young ones who should be into robolox like the male young uns simply aren’t into the most popular game for kids.

The percentage of women who are into animal crossing and baldurs gate 3 is still very low. They sure as hell don’t play uncharted or the last of us.

This constant push to get women into gaming is so stupid. Women do play games. They play candy crush and other mobile trash like farmville. They don’t give a fuck about neil, Kojima or todd howard. We need to stop trying to pander to these people. They will never like games just like how they don’t like sports. The sports teams don’t go out of their way to appeal to women. I don’t know why we do it.
