UK Software Charts

* This week last year EA's 'Medal of Honor: Rising Sun' overtook 'FIFA 2004' at No1, holding on to become Xmas No1 three weeks later - only to be deposed the following week by 'Need for Speed: Underground'. This year looks like it could be Need for Speed's year as the sequel 'Need for Speed: Underground 2' (PS2/XB/PC/GC/GBA) knocks 'San Andreas' off the No1 spot in the Entertainment Software Top 40. 'San Andreas' drops one place from No1 to No2, while EA's 'FIFA 2005' is up from No6 to No3, suggesting that it may have the legs to go the distance. Konami's 'Pro Evolution 4' is propelled from No8 to No4 thanks to the release of the Xbox version (a new entry at No3 in the Xbox Full Price Chart). It is a good week for Eye Toy compatible games with Sony's 'Singstar Party' (PS2) celebrating a leap of 20 places from No40 to No20 and 'Sega Superstars' (PS2) powering into the Chart for the first time at No21 after 6 weeks on release, thanks to retailer promotion. Sony's 'Eye Toy: Play 2' is down 3 places from No19 to No22, but sales are actually up 8%. Disney Interactive/THQ's 'The Incredibles' soars into the Top 10 on the back of the movie release, up from No18 to No7 (PS2/GBA/XB/GC). There are 5 new entries this week, but the highest (EA's Goldeneye: Rogue Agent - PS2/XB/GC) does not make the Top 10, in at No11. It is followed by Sony's contender 'Killzone' (PS2) which debuts behind it at No12. Nintendo's critically acclaimed Gamecube 'Metroid Prime 2: Echoes' can only manage No33 with Ubisoft's 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2' (XB/PS2) at No34 thanks to strong sales of the Xbox version (76%) and Sony's 'Jak 3' (PS2) at No37.

"The biggest Christmas release for Nintendo's early learning console hasn't arrived in our post room. Won't play on a 50Hz TV and you're probably not 12, so best they didn't send it, eh...

Months of fun? One. Two stars out of five!"

Tales of Symphonia isn't on the chart either. Nor is Zelda Minish cap.

How many Nintendo games sell in the UK? 3 copies a week? :/

Not alot. MP1 didnt sell much either. About 100,000 total. Zelda Minish Cap bombing is no surprise really, its kiddy and isnt advertised at all. PSP will be no.1 in this region. GBA sells poorly in the UK.

Well Nintendo PAL (AU/EU) totally sucks marketing wise, i guess that's no news here. They always did and always will. And compared to NOA they suck at pretty much everything else anyway. I dunno if they are just terribly underfunded, or got idiots working for them.

And look at the GC chart, MP being on shelves FOR ONE DAY sells more than PM2 and all other games. That should tell you how bad Nintendo performs in the UK. I think it might be better in other countries in the EU.

You should get yourself another system so you too can have some joy. All I see is sad smilys in your posts.

We sold out of Xbox's, PS2 demand is through the roof, and im constantly shifting a ton of GBA SPs.

Thanks bunkum.

They should've delayed it into next year, added 50hz TV functionality and not put themselves up against GTA:SA and Halo 2. Or maybe this bomb was inevitable.

I don't there ever was any nostalgia factor for Metroid in the UK, probably not much anywhere in Europe.

People in the UK are strange anyway, so i blame it on them :) Seriously, i'd like to get some unit numbers here, i'm thinking that the videogame market might be rather small in the UK, is that right? I'm not thinking because of the population compared to the US, but relatively.

Swedish and Danish charts.. Swedes always seem to have decent taste. (these are from last week so no MP2)

An article on the UK PS2 shortage gave the following numbers...

PS2:7 million
Xbox:1.5 million
Gamecube:1 million

Ouch! Did anyone see that Jak 3 bomb coming?

thats good. I thought it would beat MP2 handily. :lol :P

Nintendo cant advertise to save themselves in the UK. They need to use someone other than Leo Burnett for games like Metroid Prime. They are advertising but its a waste advert for MP2. I really dont see what makes that advert good? How does it sell the game? It doesnt. Its just lets people know its out and thats it, rather than create interest. They are paying to have GC and GBA sections put at the front of GAME now. Progress, except they are complete ripoffs and they wont ever recommend a GC anyway.

In the UK MS do put in the extra effort. Virtually all shelf space is paid for. Which is why shelf space is larger than it would ever normally be. Getting extra visibility is MS's top priority. Advertise Halo 2 more than any other game to give the impression its huge. Shelf space to give the impression its huge. Banners, displays to get awareness to getting people to talk about XBox you name it. PS2 still outsells by a huge amount however amazingly.

The drooling fucktards at FHM most likely had problems with the 60Hz setting. Urrm, arrrhhg FOOTBALL.

They didnt have a copy. Nintendo probably didnt pay them for the ads or something maybe :p

Yes. PSP will outsell GBASP in the UK. DS will bomb here. It is fact. I talked to a GAME person yesterday he said they sell 4 times as many Xbox's than GBA's on a bad Xbox day.

Don't blame the people in the UK in regards to MPrime 2. Most of the people here on this forum from the UK who are GC owners are very aware of the game and most likely purchased it.

Nintendo done little to no marketing for the game, in fact, even I didn't even know it was released! If they did advertised the game then they definitely didn't hit the right places at the right time. The game that was contender of 'game of the year' had nothing to ride on. So in short they have screwed up the launch week so let's see what they would do to make up for it during the important December month.

That's completely wrong. UK are huge when it comes to videogaming, though Germany is the biggest in Europe its the UK that is surprisingly more classed as the figure-head.

I don't know if that's true. I've heard that UK is the largest overall for console gaming and certainly for PC gaming. Someone in the know want to chime in?

Wrong, UK is #1 with about a third of the complete european market. Germany is far away with about half the UK revenue.
