Just to repost this because it could prove important:

The FT has cast doubt on the accuracy of exit polls. I'm not sure if you'll be able to read it behind the FT's paywall, but some of the reasons it gives for saying we shouldn't put too much faith in exit polls are:

• One in six voters refuse to respond to an opinion poll
• Up to one in five votes will be cast by post
• The exit polling sample barely covers Lib-Lab marginals
• Boundary changes muck up what historic data is available
• It's a mad rush to manage the data and make a prediction

Interesting.

Strictly speaking Labour should be given the chance to form a government first, but it won't work that way.

You mean the Conservatives. The largest party should form it and the Liberals are most likely going to allow them to.

An amazing TV show. It would be a guilty pleasure type show if everyone didn't go "yeah, that's good actually!"

Oh god. There was one guy who warmed cheese by wrapping it in celophane and placing it in his pockets...

The memories... : (

But yes, Come Dine With Me is awesome. Do they still do Saturday marathons, where they show the whole week's episodes for two-and-a-half hours?

No, in the result of a hung parliament strictly speaking the former government are supposed to be given the first chance, but like I say, there's little chance it'll go down that way. It'll be an all out scrap more than likely.

Well, at least that's how I understood it anyway, I'm hardly an expert on this kinda thing.

Edit: Cheers Sage.

The current PM is supposed to get the first chance to form a government, but that seems to have been thrown out the window this election.

In the event the Torys win most seats but not a majority it'll be either a Tory/Lib Dem coalition or Tory minority government.

Interesting.

If there's one thing I learned during the American election, never trust the exit polls! Though no doubt there'll be some Chicken Little's doing the rounds come 10 o'clock.

Yeah that is right, but its not going to happen this time round. If Brown tries to pull it then thats him finished.

Its either going to be a coalition or a conservative minority govt.

The facejacker crossover a few weeks back with Terry Tibbs was gold.

Just the one - all 3 TV stations have commissioned the one exit poll.

Why would the conservatives align with the liberal democrats?

they might not join a coalition together, but the Liberals would likely give the tories the chance to govern for 12-18months

Killer, Channel 4 are not showing their election coverage in HD same as ITV.

Add half a cup of water to each parties policies and they become the same. The gap between the UK parties is much much smaller than in the US. A compromise to meet in the middle between Lib Dems and Conservatives is possible, but I think a Conservative minority is more likely in that situation.

I voted Lib Dem. It was either them or SNP (who haven't been that bad to be honest), but I simply knew more about Lib Dem's policies and welcome electoral reform. I don't like Clegg, but the vote was made easier knowing that I would be voting in a different person in the Scottish Parliament.

Because with the economy so bad, they can't form a minority government when the chance to call a quick election next year with the chance of getting a majority government should they do a good enough job to get the popularity

C-Span for Americans looking for coverage.
