UK PoliGAF: General election thread of LibCon Coalitionage

The Guardian website currently shows 33 Tories, 27 Labour, 21 Lib Dems and 19 other. Where did all the other vote go? UKIP and BNP? What happened to the lib dem vote?

If the Conservatives are really at 37% they could be right around a majority.

There's absolutely no signs of a universal swing though, so you just can't extrapolate like that.

An outright Tory majority looks pretty damn unlikely to me at this point.

What happens if the conservatives fall short of an overall majority, but a lib-lab coalition also lacks the seats to form a majority? The exit polls suggested such an outcome, yet no one seems to have discussed it.

Negotiate with super wacky parties?

SNP have five seats. 2-3 more seats and they'll have succeeded in realistic terms. None of this "20 seats" shooting-for-the-stars Salmond had hoped for.

They might still make an increase. Been an OK night for them. Not great though.

Getting tired, gonna have to bail soon.

Not expecting any kind of clear cut answer in the morning due to hung parliament so this is kinda pointless.

Obviously either side would have to appeal to the smaller parties, the Greens/UKIP or some of the Irish/Scottish Parties.

They had six seats before this. So as I said, just getting one more and I'd say they succeeded. Losing Glasgow East was a kick in the balls, but no party can say "Hell yeah son, we're gonna take a Glasgow seat from Labour" with a straight face.

Brown gets first chance to form a government

If he can't, then Cameron does

If Cameron can't, then a new Labour leader might (if they have one by then)

Then Clegg

If that doesn't work they activate the Queen.

Cage match between the party leaders. No rules, winner takes all.

So would Labour be able to cling on by forming some kind of lab-lib-snp-dup coalition?

Lets face it, they were never going to keep Glasgow East anyway.

As much as I dislike the Tories, I've got to admit that a Lib-Lab coalition government in this situation would seem like a pretty unfair result. Two losers do not make a winner.

Lets be fair here, as things stand, 49% > 34%

Can some explain that gag to me (like what the joke is derived from)?
Earlier on in the BBC coverage they were talking about when the Queen became relevant in deciding who'd lead a new government and used the phrase 'activate the Queen'. So now she sounds like an ancient robot.

One loser doesn't make a winner, either.

It's a line used by some political theorist on the BBC earlier in the evening

EDIT: beaten - what he said

True, but damn it, I need to believe that a minority Tory government will be neutered somewhat by a Lib/Lab opposition coalition.

:lol That seriously just made me LOL out in the library at school.

The mere thought of Robo Queen Elizabeth II is making me one of those good laughs where just reading it makes you laugh with no effort on your own.

Still is RoboElizabeth the best to battle Mecha-Putin and Sarkozilla? :lol

Conservatives are likely to have the most seats and the most votes. I think they should get first opportunity to make a government.
Regardless, in the event of a hung parliament the incumbent leader gets the first opportunity.

Guess there are parts of this system that go against every group ;p

But what would you say about a Lab-Lib Coalition that would have the most seats and share of the vote?

Wouldn't that coalition speak more for the country then a 34% Conservative Government?

Carlisle, I am disappoint. If I were still living in Galashiels I'd have my ass on the X95 bus right now just to skullfuck the lot of you. :|
