I like your optimism
Why thank you ;)

I think I was a wee bit blunt, but the backbenchers won't like this deal, regardless of what they vote for tonight (tomorrow?). Down the line, this will no doubt cause some major difficulty when passing legislation and could lead to a rather unstable government, with the Lib Dems having even less support than ever.

FEDIT: Wow if Paddy Ashdown rumours are true :)

Would it be true to say that there was a brief moment between Brown's resignation and Cameron's visit to the queen when Harriet Harman was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?
No. During that time there was no Prime Minister.

It's only a referendum on AV, which the Tories will oppose. What about that don't you get?

Wait, 3/4 of the Lib Dems need to vote for this coalition to go forward?
It's certainly not over yet.

Yay, let's wait on the sidelines and play at being politicians whilst the real parties form successive governments!

the £10,000 income tax threshold is apparently limited as well. i think the cut off will probably be much lower than £100,000, which is actually a better use of money if it doesn't go too low.

I understand all of that

But it is a concession on their manifesto.
No doubt, but they'll find a way to screw the people out of fair(er) votes, just you watch.

Gods, even the BBC News ticker music sounds more downbeat. :lol

I'm hearing reports that apparently David Cameron has spoken to a black man from Washington and that he shared his concerns on several issues.

this music playing on bbc news' montage sounds like music from a final fantasy game. maybe one which accompanies a sweeping shit across a city or something.

Unlike many people on here i dont think 2012 has come 2 years earlier than predicted and Im looking forward to how this parliament works. If it can at least attempt to dilute the partisan party-politics and encourage politicians to work together in the national interest then that in its own right will be a success. If it doesnt work then its an incitement against politicians as a species.

9.56pm: My colleague Jill Treanor tells me the gossip in City circles is that Vincent Cable could be given responsibility for the banks and business at the Treasury. "If that's true, that will unsettle the banks as the Lib Dems want to split up the banks' "casino" arms from the high st businesses, which will hurt Barclays, HSBC and the state-controlled RBS," she tells me.

we can only hope

I think a traditional song sums up my feelings right now...

Ev'ry road thro' life is a long, long road,
Fill'd with joys and sorrows too,
As you journey on how your heart will yearn
For the things most dear to you.
With wealth and love 'tis so,
But onward we must go.

Keep right on to the end of the road,
Keep right on to the end,
Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong,
Keep right on round the bend.
Tho' you're tired and weary still journey on,
Till you come to your happy abode,
Where all the love you've been dreaming of
Will be there at the end of the road.
