I agree that going from the front pages that've been posted in this thread, the format and styling of the Independent is very nice. The content seems to be (at first glance) less slanderous than many other papers.Subliminal said:I love the independent, Frontpages with just a picture are amazing

But this ConLib alliance is good but it seems they got a bit too good of a deal seen as they did come third.

Sir Fragula said:it's a betrayal, nothing more. Millions of Lib Dem voters didn't expect to see a coallition with the fucking toffs on the table. Fuck it, Nick Clegg has destroyed the Liberal Democrat party.
Varion said:Confirmed on BBC:
- Libs scrapped mansions tax, and the Conservatives scrapped plans on inheritance tax.
- Trident staying, but Conservatives will scrutinise it.
- Marriage tax breaks to go through most likely - but Lib Dems won't vote for it, they'll abstain.
- No further transfer of powers to Europe without a referendum.
- Not joining Euro this parliament.
- Fixed term 5 year parliaments.
Also emergency budget within 50 days.

Time machine introduced into British Politics!11.12pm: The Tories have been briefing on details of the coalition. One of the most remarkable is that there will be a commitment to hold the next election on the first Thursday in May 2005 (that's May 7).
They probably need a favour soon.Varion said:"Obama tells Cameron he's still committed to a 'special relationship' between the US and UK"

I don't think people understand how coalition formation works. It's not as if there's this rule that there's a left block and a right block, and the one that get 50+% gets to govern. You have to face the political reality that there are winners and losers, that there's only so many options available. Especially in the UK, which has basically only 3 parties you can shuffle around with. That's very little, and effectively makes for only 3 possible coalitions. And I don't see the Tories working with Labour. Which makes for only 2 coalitions. And that the Lib Dems and Labour have most in common is only one of the many factors that decide on coalition formation.Zenith said:Lib Dems are now in the greatest position to influence policy in a 100 years and it's a "betrayl"? Were you under the impression that Cameron wouldn't get into number 10 without them? Stupid delusional class war morons.
BBC said:23:23 Details of the Tory-Lib Dem deal emerge. The Lib Dems have agreed to drop plans for a "mansion tax", while the Conservatives have ditched their pledge to raise the inheritance tax threshold to £1m. The new administration will scrap Labour's planned rise in National Insurance but some of the benefits will go to reducing income tax thresholds for lower earners.
I support fixed terms, but I think it should be four years, not five. Only two chances to change a government per decade? First bad policy I've heard from the Lib-Cons pact. I wonder which side it was that wanted five instead of four.killer_clank said:The fixed terms are 5 years. FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
