So why are you only talking about gay rights?
Because the only concerns voiced so far about May has been regarding her mixed record on gay rights and I thought it was you who posted the pink times article earlier on in the thread, but perhaps it wasn't. My bad.

Lol at the Lib Dem voters complaining..... Their vote usually means fuck all and now its suddenly got power they don't know what to do with it.

TBFH I was sick of labour and their partying with the nations credit card, but voting Conservative made me nervous as to the potential cuts in public spending being TOO harsh. A coalition with a lefty party to straighten up their right hand lean (quite) a bit could be the best thing I could have hoped for. I looks to me like we have the best of both manifestos with none of the stuff that made my ass twitch with the two.....

12 months and we'll have a better picture as how things will pan out I guess...

E3 2010:

I Reggie, and I Jack Tretton, do hereby declare that Nintnedo and Sony will form a strong and stable coalition, in the international interest.

Of course, there are some issues that we differ on, like online implementation and third party relations.

But there are some areas in which we are in agreement. We both want to expand the gaming audience, and we both want to fix our broken economic system, to reduce the industry deficit. There is also a very surprising overlap on our views on how motion control should be implemented.

We have not fully decided all the jobs, but we can give some details on the future the cabinet.

Our Chancellor of the Exchequer will be Satoru Iwata, whilst the Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equality will be Cammie Dunway. The Rt. Hon. Shigeru Miyamoto will get Secretary of State for Innovation and Skills as well as Secretary for Children, Schools and Families.

On the Sony side, Ken Kutaragi will be the Defense Secretary and Kevin Butler will get Foreign Secretary.

More announcements to follow

Alright guys I'm back from my exam. Shamefully, I forgot I was going for a meal so the new thread will have to wait a bit longer. Good news is that I've got a thread title and general layout sorted.

The LibCon bonfire of Labour's statist authoritarian legislation, especially ID cards, is the best part of it all.

Can't wait for at least 3 or 4 years of decent and effective Cabinet government. Everything has been so presidential for the past 13 years.

EDIT: LOL just started reading back through the thread.

Ahahaha bitter lefties.

Would it have been OK for the Lib-Lab deal to go through, with an "unelected PM" once Labour pick their new leader, as was Labour's plan on Monday (a plan hatched by the unelected Peter Mandelson and Alastair Campbell and rejected by Labour MPs)?

That will be worth a journey to Parliament Square - not to protest but to rejoice.

There's no law against rejoicing

A Freedom or Great Repeal Bill.

The scrapping of ID card scheme, the National Identity register, the next generation of biometric passports and the Contact Point Database.

Outlawing the finger-printing of children at school without parental permission.

The extension of the scope of the Freedom of Information Act to provide greater transparency.

Adopting the protections of the Scottish model for the DNA database.

The protection of historic freedoms through the defence of trial by jury.

The restoration of rights to non-violent protest.

The review of libel laws to protect freedom of speech.

Safeguards against the misuse of anti-terrorism legislation.

Further regulation of CCTV.

Ending of storage of internet and email records without good reason.

A new mechanism to prevent the proliferation of unnecessary new criminal offences.

Oh my god.

I thought I was going to have a politorgasm when I watched the Dick and Dom routine earlier.

Although the focus so far has been on how the Lib Dems have tempered the harder Tory policies, keep in mind that the Lib Dems were against new nuclear power stations, a policy I'm strongly in disagreement with. We seem to be getting them. Truly the best of both worlds.

would the Great Repeal bill include repealing the Human Rights Act? It was mentioned as one of the Con's goals in their manifesto.

In the commons where does everyone sit. I assume Tories and Lab swap places but are the Libs mixed in with the Cons or are they in their normal spot? They'd have to be on the opposite side to signify they're aren't in opposition.

If Cameron dies, who automatically becomes PM? The deputy leader of the Conservative party or Deputy PM full stop?

I hope not. It is a jolly good Act - only spoiled by a bunch of spineless risk-averse advisors (mostly not proper lawyers) to public authorities.

I'd guess they will be all mixed up on the Government benches to signify it is a true coalition of equals. this perception stuff is so important y'know.

Nobody automatically does. The Queen gets activated. Same as it's always been.

The image of the them shaking hands by No. 10 is just so surreal. It's like I was suddenly aware of how peculiar this whole situation had become.

better question would be who becomes acting leader when the PM is incapacitated.

That, I guess, would be a decision of the Cabinet at the time rather than something that is worked out in advance.

I think it was this that did it for me:

They seem so friendly all of a sudden it's just... bizarre.

After sleeping on this though, I'm ready. Bring on five years of the Conservative Democrats!

So true... it didn't actually sink in that NICK CLEGG was DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, the second most powerful member of the government, until it showed him rolling up and shaking hands with Cam on the doorstep of Number 10.

Unbelievable. A massive achievement for the both of them.

As a hardline Tory I...like this coalition. The agreement appears to have taken the best of both manifestos. Shame about inheritance tax but I'm glad that the Tories' EU policy has remained intact. This should be a good few years for the country.

I am going to risk the ire of UK PoliGaf and say, now that it's no longer a choice and we're stuck with him, I'm actually warming to Cameron a little bit. I went back and watched his TED talk and he seems vibrant and smart and intellectual. Maybe it's just the halo effect standing next to Clegg, I don't know, but so far I'm hating this less than I thought I would.

I think Cameron has to get at least a little bit of respect for how he's handled this. Many, many pages back someone posted a list of what they expected Cameron to do if he got a minority - and it was basically declare victory anyway, challenge the constitution and threaten anyone who didn't back his proposals by saying they were going against national interest.

What actually happened? He didn't do any of that, admitted they hadn't done as well as they should, immediately extended a hand to the Lib Dems and made massive policy concessions, even inviting Clegg to be his deputy.

I can't say I now like the man as such, but I've been pleasantly surprised by his actions since the election.

The way I feel is at the end of the day, it isn't a Tory government. It's a bizarre coalition Government, and therefore, just wait and see what happens.

In hindsight, this was always going to happen, I suppose.

it's really pathetic how labour party members are trying to completely blame the LD's for a tory government and crying betrayal in a shameless way to boost membership. i'm tempted to donate to the lib dems in retaliation, even though i feel the deal could be a little better despite the choice of lib-con being absolutely the right one.

i'm talking about shit articles like this one.

Yeah now we're stuck with it, the optimistic way of looking at it for me is this is a true test of what Cameron is all about. I've always had a hard time believing the man, and that he really was changing the Tory party, or just putting a more acceptable gloss on the old party.

The trust-deficit was mainly because Cameron never had a Clause 4 battle like Blair had with the Unions, which forcibly shoved the whole party away from the far-left.

This deal with the Lib Dems is his Clause 4 moment, and if he's sincere about changing the party it's his opportunity to jettison a lot of right-wing baggage from the past.

1826 Tony Blair's former spokesman Alastair Campbell is to begin publishing his diaries in full from next month. He released heavily edited extracts after Mr Blair left office in 2007. But, now that the Labour government has ended, Mr Campbell will publish the unexpurgated diaries in four separate volumes.

This should be fun. But on the whole I cannot see it being good for Labour. How many of the leadership candidates will it shaft?
