UK PoliGAF: General election thread of LibCon Coalitionage

Funny, I thought Clegg was strong on immigration, he provided a realistic solution to a major problem. Lab and Con simply said "TOUGH ON THE IMMIGRANTS! DEPORT THEM! POLICE THE BORDER!" Never mind Clegg said last week he also supported more border security.

Labour Guy, what did you think?
"I thought Gordon Brown was cool."

Tory guy, what did you think?
"I thought David Cameron was cool."

Lib Dem guy, what did you think?
"I thought Nick Clegg was cool."

Fucking stupid asking.

Oh what the hell is with the non-skilled immigrations only allowed to come from the EU. That reeks of racism. I mean some of the best people in the US are the children of "unskilled" people who immigrated here.

We let people from over 25 countries come and go as they please.. thats enough.

I thought so too. Weird how here seems to think otherwise.

Well that wasn't great.

Cameron did a bit better than last week, Brown did much better, and Clegg did great on some questions, weaker on others. I got the impression he came out a bit on top, but much less than last week, although I'll admit my bias.

Questions sucked ass, moderating felt better than last week except for that totally uncalled for Telegraph comment.

Nice fight on Sky News right now.

The best thing about this "spin alley" is that it's so crampt and they have to stand so close to each other :lol

My wifi conked out randomly half way through. Thought Clegg really came into his own by the end, Brown was surprisingly forceful and Cameron struggled slightly - but people might have fallen for a lot of his rhetoric.

Any opinion polls back yet?

Nope.

Cameron was consistent. Clegg has some lows but had some highs as well, I thought his closing statement was very good but Camerons was good last week so maybe thats just part of being last to speak. Brown did well but he's not geared up for this debate thing.

Man, when Cameron looks into the camera he looks like a nervous liar. Those big blinking eyes do him no justice at all... He needs to stay focused on the audience next time.

You're american though. Anything that remotely left (and lib dems and labour arnt very left, some would say mild right) you would probably scream and say big scary words like socialism.

What the hell are you talking about? When have I ever gone around saying something about socialism. Brown kept saying the points system and Clegg kept talking about criminal gangs. They really just repeated the same phrases a lot. It's done to drive the point in, but its just comes off as hammering the point into too hard.

To be fair, we haven't been living up to the inscription on the Statue of Liberty at the moment either.

True, but we have to work harder.

I am far left to any of those leaders on immigration, and I'm American.
Same. This country was built into a superpower with a diverse group of people from every country on the planet. Sometimes the contribution came by the labor of people when they immigrated or by the talents of their children or grandchildren. To limit it to just the EU seems really shitty.

Same. I agreed with Clegg's answer to the immigration question too, he seemed to have the best ideas even if they're not perfect.

So what is the best program to watch that gives us a rundown? I'm pretty much sick of watching Sky News now, so I hope there is a better alternative.

i just expect more liberal immigration stuff from the liberal democratic party. it's better than id cards and caps, obviously, but he didn't stand up enough for the positives of immigration, didn't clarify his regional part well enough, didn't outline the advantages of an amnesty and instead went overboard on the whole 'complex issue, needs thought' rhetoric.

I'd go for the BBC News at 10.

wow, basic maths really do escape you, don't they? this IS taking proportionality into account.

and number of MPs doesn't have any effect on how extensive the claims were. Lib Dems got done for dodgy little things, Tories and Labour for outright fraud.

I'm not saying Cons. or Labour weren't in the wrong but Clegg admitted to it up on stage. Now stop making excuses for them. MP's shouldn't get expenses at all. Doesn't matter if its a cake tin or tv. Its still wrong.

That was the only thing that got any reaction out of the crowd at all. Felt like 200 zombies in attendance.

Well your country makes it impossible for UK citizens to get green cards through the lottery.

Well the debate rules are basically to thank for that. They're not really allowed to do anything.

I stand corrected, YouGov had Cameron as winning the debate.

Edit: Just remembered. It's a YouGov/Sun poll.

Manos, pipe down. Jazz, learn to read sarcasm.

I thought it was a wet blanket debate over all, but Clegg came out strong, possibly aided by being the last to speak. I actually thought all three of them were quite weak in their answers to the immigration question. Clegg, who probably gave the best answer, still sounded like a tired soundbyte with the 'Criminal gangs' bit.

Restricting where people can live? The freedom to live were you want (if you haven't committed a crime is a basic right). It's one thing when it's a asylum seeker being relocated with the help of the government, but its quite another thing if not.

Yes, but less wrong than using taxpayers' money to make profits on houses, for example.

YouGov/Sun:

Brown: 29%
Cameron: 36%
Clegg: 32%

I'm calling schenanigans on this poll. I'm waiting for more.

Fortress europa really is closed for outsiders, and people still demand that we "put a stop to mass immigration". They really have no alternative than to appear strict on the issue.

"Darling: I don't care what you're polls say in all honesty" :lol

How on Earth did Cameron score 36% and Brown come at the bottom with 29%? I don't understand this

I did, that's why I stopped responding to the guy after the second response.

Restricting where immigrants can work is what he said eijit. The freedom to work/live where you want is a right of the citizens of the country, immigrants are immigrants and therefore subject to restrictions with visas and work permits. You just put an area of work on the work permit which makes it a crime to work outside that area.
