why can't clegg just say the amnesty is a one off? thats what it is.

and that it only applies to a few of them who meet very specific criteria.

he could destroy them, but he keeps dancing around.

You're right. Best keep them hidden before they start paying taxes. Nightmare.

Well they should be forced out of hiding and stop feeding off the taxpayers money, giving them a free pass isn't the best option here

I may be biased, but all I can remember about Cameron in this debate has been:

Shiny forehead,
Dimbleby: "Let me remind the audience of the question..."
"Answer the question."
"Lets assume every time you talk about my policy you're wrong eh?"
"You're not answering the question Dave"
"YES OR NO?!"

It's not a free pass, it's a method to get them out of hiding and stop leeching, like we want. That's if we can't use Cameron's magical illegal immigrant detector.

Right, so then we need a special police task force that will (in totally Orwellian fashion) proceed to go and raid every home they can to find these people and deport them...anyone got a few Billions spare to pay for all this?

All I can picture here is Clegg dressed as Wylie Coyote, with an ACME Amenesty 'box' that leads onto a ship to France.

Oh hey, Clegg was in the Toon yesterday!:D

Have you met or seen any or did you just read the Daily Mail.

This amnesty is for people we've been trying to do this for 10 years, what exactly makes you think we'll be able to find them now?

If you can't deport them, might as well tax them and have them contribute to the economy rather than crime.

I don't know how they will do it, maybe trick them into coming forward then ship them back to where they came from

Ah here we go, benefits.

Clegg's plan won't deal with the lazy people, but in terms of lower paid work it's a fair point.

How would Nick Clegg know if an illegal immigrant has been in the country for 10+ years?

I would think the immigrant would seek to prove this if he walked into the police station or wherever to submit to the amnesty. Otherwise he'd be deported. His evidence would be scrutenised, he'd get community service, he'd pay tax. Seems fair enough to me.

This 'Worker Training' is a joke. My mates been unemployed for four years because he's chose to be. His training? Word Processing course, he can use Microsoft Word.

At there moment there are no jobs as well, be even less after the election due to public spending cuts - NHS jobs will go, civil servants, etc.

Forced to work? Brown would get my vote right there, get those fucking layabout dole scroungers off their arses with a gun at their head if need be.

They should just link people up into apprenticeships and learn a trade - though I think they do this already if you ask. Think I agree with Cameron on the 'if you refuse the job, then you get no benefits' stance.

Lets make sweeping generalisations.

The thing is, if you get rid of benefits, that can trap people in poverty, as happens very often in the United States. The other side is of course, people can choose not to work. There's less social stigma now about just taking benefit rather than working, either that or the bastards just don't care. You can't force people to work, that would be the Soviet Union.
