Urgh, used my points to get two vita memory cards - a week later and they still have not arrived. Fairly typical that the last thing I order doesn't show up...

My guess is that they think Gamestop will come in and save them because their model is almost the same as Game's. Again they seem to believe the hype that they are too big to fail and that they are vital to the UK games industry so even if they aren't bought out by a benevolent investor that the industry players will come together and save them.

I see neither as a likely scenario.

Sleazy and desperate, right until the end.

edit... looks like it already calmed down. No crazy .50 this time.
I think Blueshore and Goldman Snacks holding firm on a load of shares will prop up the price somewhat (by holding them you lower supply of them which will keep price from getting too low). All we need now are so rumors and bam.

Went to Game & Gamestation, and for stores that are closing on Saturday the sales should be alot better than they are.
Why would they? Stock is stock. Send it back to head office and/or put in other stores to sell it at the price you were going to sell it for.

Didn't someone post earlier that they were told you can't buy those cards with a gift card.
That was in WHSmith though; not GAME.

Why would Gamestop buy the company outright? Its better for them to wait till they go bust and pick off the stores they want. For example: I wouldn't be surprised if they buy the Game store in my home town of Leicester, as they don't have a store in the city.

I went into a GAME in Cork, Ireland at the weekend. Even with a Spring cleanout sale it was still expensive. I'm not surprised they're dying really.

It would be a shame for a high street business to go under but the reality is they were never good value. Even other stores around my local GAME are consistently better value. I always felt walking in that I'd be lucky if I spotted anything which constituted good value.

Why? Well the norm for stores closing means good sales to most people.

Personally don't care about the bigwigs at the top do.

I see more realistic figures over Game's funding came out then. Any buyer would need £180m to buy them up and clear the debt. I'm told the banks won't accept any bids that do not clear the debts up front. The administrator would be able to sell enough assets to make up the £10m of VAT and £100m of debt, the landlords and trade creditors would have to suck it up and take the hit. This is why EA, Capcom, Microsoft, Sony, Activision, Namco and Nintendo have pulled their credit lines either completely or partially in the case of Sony, none of them want to lose their money.

The board at Game are trying desperately to hold onto their jobs which means any bidder which wants to have sweeping management changes are rebuffed, hence the irritation from the banks. They are truly despicable and their actions are going to cost 6000 jobs across Europe with at least 3000 lost in the UK.

HMRC lost their preferential creditor status a few years back so they will take the hit alongside the trade creditors. Employee claims rank ahead of the bank debt in preference so arrears of pay/holiday pay will be at the front of the queue.

The bank need to force the administration and make their own appointment. Its basically a game of chicken at the moment.

actually why are game still advertising diablo 3 and the star wars 360 on their website? I thought activision and MS pulled support

I still have £15 on a gift card and there literally nothing in there that I fancy getting. Anyone I know are the same it's crap in GAME. Can you use the gift cards on their website?

Get Microsoft points or a PSN voucher.

I think it's wrong of them to still attempt to get deposits on upcoming games. They barely get new releases in anymore, and then there's the fact that the company will likely go into administration in a few days, and anybody who has put down a deposit will lose their money.

Don't think I've heard of Activision pulling support. They may have done - there's been so many - but I've a nagging feeling that Activision are actually still in. For now.

I hope I get my points tomorrow, I brought them online because I had £5 in points and it was meant to be instant.

Knowing my luck they'll go in to administration before it gets sorted out :p

But nah, will follow the story more tomorrow; I hope they survive in some form because it'd be healthy for the UK high street to have a specialist retailer, but they need some drastic changes in order to actually stand out from the competition. As I said before; places like HMV are happily providing more than them at the moment (in fact I was surprised by how much HMV did offer in general) so we'll see.

My local store had a big Call of Duty section with MW3, MW2, and various point cards branded to CoD last time I went in.

I think we are probably passed the point of it actually being news when someone stops supplying them

They don't charge pre-orders until they ship, so it doesn't matter.

when i was in game yesterday, the person serving me tried to get me to place a 20.00 deposit for the witcher 2 special dark edition. he said they wouldn't be honoring any pre-orders unless people had paid a minimum of 20.00 deposit. they were also trying to get cash deposits for prototype 2, which they said they would be stocking. i just bought alice madness returns (2.98p, hard to say no at that price) and walked out.

I wonder how often they get a reply "but aren't you guys closing down soon?" when they try and offer something that's clearly beyond their closing date.

i was going to ask this but i didn't want to get into a conversation, i just wanted to get my game and get out. but he was pushing very hard, so he must be wrongly assuming they will ride this out and still be open for business next month.

Sounds good. Until you get there and its a total neckbeard sausage-fest.

Yes, i know this is just a ridiculous bit of PR shite from a website desperate for some free advertising, funny nonetheless.
GAME actually held some dating events where people were supposed to come and trade games and mingle. I would love to hear anybody's description of such an event, I can only imagine it was incredibly awkward

I can only speak for the stores I visit; but the collective smell of bad leather jacket and stale body odour would knock out every member of the opposite sex for a 10 mile radius.

Maturity, bitches.

They should have followed HMVs example and open all the games before hand so they can flood the store with the fresh instruction manual smell*

*opening a game does not guarantee a manual.

Really? I'd have thought that this was the ideal time to look into one of those nice golden parachutes.

Rick Bendel asda's long serving marketing director is leaving asda to join Walmart in a new role.

His new job will be for Walmart in Uk looking at marketing in a new sector and special projects. He will remain in London.

??

This could be amazing.. I have 9000 shares now!

Under the proposals, the website — the first and largest of its kind in the UK — would set up branded holding areas in each shop where single gamers could mingle and hook up.

No mention of trade-in values.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I did once. Back when I was 17 and going through the craziest part of my puberty. She told me she liked Streets of Rage 2 and I game in my pants.

Girlfriend said she loved Streets of Rage 2 and Mortal Kombat in early dating phase. I have kept her. Worst experience on the high street was when i needed some quick modelling clay stuff and ducked into GAMES WORKSHOP for some green stuff with her in tow. An outsider... with the female parts...!

I wonder what the likelyhood of GAME staff getting paid this month is really now. Also wonder how many have just left, knowing full well that the shoe is about to drop and drop hard.

That might have been me with my WH Smith outrage this weekend. Of which I am still fuming.

Have you emailed them? Gamestation replied to me quickly when they messed up my order a few days ago, so hopefully Game will be similar.

Yeah, they replied regarding an issue over the weekend and that those had been emailed, so I replied as asked saying that my order was made yesterday.

Nothing yet though.

There will be news at Around 4 today.

Which way it goes is up in the air!

I've got my fingers, toes and penis crossed again! I won't lose my balls or my money again!

Can game put themselves into adminustration or do they have to wait for their ceditorsbto do it for them? Because if there is any time to do it today is definately the day for maximum impact

What would happen if they went bust/declared administration today and someone still had an issue with their order or was awaiting delivery of a game?

Honestly have no idea but they're still pushing preorders/deposits.
