UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

I wish there were an option to turn that goddamn event mode stuff off. I hate it because it always loads and I barely touch it. It also takes three times longer to load on the PS3 and it drives me crazy!
As a primary offline player, I love it. I love challenges, but I wish they weren't so restrictive. I hate when devs do that shit. I think all games should follow the Halo model of making everything accessible to all players. If it's on disc, and customizable by devs, and it doesn't break the game technically, then why not let players have fun with it?

Also, actual rewards for those challenges would be cool too, but I mean what are you gonna do. Kids hate secret factor.

EDIT: So.. wasn't the panel supposed to start now? Or is it in an hour? EDT/Timezones are what keep me from being the intelligent man I want to be.

Wow. The Phoenix Wright reveal has 500k+ views already as compared to the other characters (Nova is 100k+). So I guess Feenie is the selling point of UMVC3? :P

Pheonix Wright is a verrrrrrrrry popular character. Easily the most popular out of the Capcom characters chosen for UMVC3. This isnt a suprise.

This is what they do instead of buffing Chun Li or the other low tiers.

!

Whatever makes you feel better about those low tiers :) (They would still be low tier even without a Galactus mode)

Being one of the few requested characters that made it in UMVC3 does that.

We just got news a few minutes ago. So yes we know.

Something tells me that the panel is already over or something. I would laugh my ass off if this is the only new mode in UMVC3.

don't forget the infinite hyper
DLC
mode bro.

Also, by my terrible calculations, the real panel starts in about 35 minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was already over or something like the confusion at SDCC.

If the panel was on time, it's 30 minutes into it already.

Hopefully the people from NeoGAF who went to it will be able to report in afterward.

I am thinking reveals for Halloween plus the other new stage.

Yay! Won't have to wait for Mugen to be able to play as Onslaught! Galactus should be fun for trolling sessions and shit talk. I'm down. I hope they have the more important extras akin to SFxT tho. That would be a terrible shame if they didn't... :|

Galactus mode looks...interesting. I must confess that I've dreamed about playing as the big bads from the versus series before. Could easily turn out to be boring, though. We'll see.

I can definitely see it being pretty fun for "in person" multiplayer, especially with people who don't know the game very well.

Technical difficulties are keeping us from liveblogging the panels today. We'll be providing summaries of each panel on Marvel.com!

Yeah okay, either we rely on Kotaku/IGN/Joystiq to report to us or stay F5ing SRK/Gamefaqs/GAF.

I wonder if UMVC3 will have a "gem" system too.

Also does anyone know what the deal is for this Gem system in SFxTekken? Is this available on default or is this like a special mode only? What's the tournament organizers going to do about it... let it rock or ban it?

Javitz Center needs to step its bandwidth game up. Likewise, Capcom needs to step its development of compelling extras or already created assets game up.

It's pretty awesome that I can say this and sound so whiny/entitled when the core game is actually pretty damn awesome.

Already banned from EVO according to Mr. Wizard. SRK poll shows tournament organizers/people voting to ban it altogether. It's completely optional.

I pray UMvC3 doesn't get a similar system. The game is perfect in terms of depth/complexity as is.

I doubt the panel had much more than that considering it covered other Marvel games too.

GOOD shit. I like this preemptive ban hammer.

Will be getting SFxTekken on PC and will enjoy it immensely.

I also want the 3/5 MVC3 ruling to go through as well. I think the majority wants 3/5 sets for MVC3 tournaments.

There were two panels - Marvel Games at 1:15 where we saw the new Spider-man game ... Free swinging city again, finally, and the UMvC3 panel at 2:45

Oh alright, I thought the Spider-Man thing was covered in the same panel UMvC3 was.

I don't like the idea of making all tournament matches Noel Brown mode. It could make things too slow, but Marvel is a fast game, so I dunno. I can't see a proper argument for it.

I think a UMvC3 2/3 major or two should be run before the full move to 3/5.

The main reason I voted for 3/5 in vanilla was the ability to win off one air throw, Phoenix, and Wolvie. Game runs really quick too, the neutral game is just so fast and sometimes random (not at the end of the tournament, but in lots of bracket/pool play) that it might benefit from some longer sets.

Plus, more Marvel = always better :D

I think this is something that would effect MvC4, SFV, Capcom vs SNK or DSIV more.

If they can't add online features across the board, but they can implement shitty gems it'll just give people a real reason to stop playing Mahvel.

Nah it's going to be bad business practices that'll do that.

Arguments have been made a plenty in favor of 3/5 at SRK. The Noel Brown 3/5 was a one off thing that applies to MVC3 TEAMS not SINGLES (3/5 MVC3 teams is brutal especially if a bracket reset is involved).

Average time of MVC3 play is much less than SSF4AE since it has 2/3 rounds and it also goes up 2/3 sets. Estimated time of a 3/5 set for MVC3 would be on par or even less than a set of SSF4AE.

Plus it takes much longer for a person to get accustomed to other players in MVC3. 1 match is definitely not enough and by the time the 2nd match comes up a player has already lost the game. Final Round was conducted with a 3/5 format and it was one of the best MVC3 tournaments because of it. With SSF4 general spacing/footsies for a session of 3 rounds is enough to get accustomed to the other player and a set of these 2/3 rounds is definitely enough. For MVC3 since it doesn't have rounds and sometimes ends faster than a SSF4 round... it should be 3/5.

As a player of MVC3, if I went to a tournament I would be much happier with a 3/5 set.

Looks like the Kotaku footage may've been captured from this same panel, in which case they're probably done with UMvC3 for this panel, but the UMvC3 panel is scheduled after this one. So I'm guessing Seth has to still go there. I hope they stream it.

It makes sense for that kind of announcement (Galactus mode) to be a tidbit in the Marvel Video Games panel.

EDIT: Yup, just checked, vid is from the same panel. UMvC3 panel is still to come and will start in about 7 minutes.

I would personally like an endless arcade mode. As in arcade mode that never ends with no boss. Would be nice to chill and practice combos to.
Almost like... endless... battle... :P

Guy on the stream is talking about the mode right now:

It's called Heroes or Heralds mode. He says you can play as either the heroes or the heralds? (WAT) And that you can team up with Galactus. He also says Capcom games panel is going on ATM.

Clusterfuck of info right now.

They got UMvC3 back on the unity stream, I just nabbed the trivia question for RE4 HD :D

Nice. Could have gotten a Third Strike code yesterday but I didn't have an account and figured people would get the answer in a few seconds anyway. Turns out it took them a solid 5 minutes before one guy got it right.

It's in favor of the loser, though. Seems to me that the people who would naturally be for this are people who get blown up in every match and are salty about it.

"Maaaaaan, I would've had him if I had another round!" Yeah, but it's 2/3 and you lost, so hit the bricks.

I love the fighting game community banning SFxT gems when Seth Killian said they're meant for tournament play.

How is this different from how fighting game elitists mock Smash Bros players for banning items? The irony!

Then why is SSF4AE 2/3 as well? Hell why not just make MVC3 1 match?

How is this in favor of the loser? Longer sets benefit better players and reduces chances of good players being "randomed" out. There are so many times where matches of MVC3 in between 2 good players are decided on the last match of a 3/5. The classical MarlinPie vs Combofiend match wouldn't have been a dud set if it wasn't 3/5.

HELL... if it wasn't for 3/5 there wouldn't be a BIONIC ARM. Just let that sink for a bit...

No gems, Ryu and Kazuya vs Ryu and Kazuya, Dino Crisis stage, one round.

Any other way is not a real fighting game!

2:45 EDT is 3:45 EST, or like 3 minutes ago, according to my time zone.

Stream says Seth Killian will be on the stream way later to clarify the Galactus mode stuff.

Okay I'm confused about timezones again. No way Seth could've been at the UMvC3 panel though when he was just live at the video games one just now, assuming the UMvC3 panel wasn't some half-hour ordeal.

Ugh...why did they mess with the magnetic blast loops... -______-
