Ok, I'm glad I wasn't the only one noticing the lag recently. I always mentioned before that I hardly experience any laggers, but lately it's been pretty crazy. Another thing that's happened to me recently (twice) is that I manage to connect successfully, but it doesn't allow me to join invites or create a party. Those two occasions I had to reboot the game.

I remember I complained that it was taking forever to find people at night (since that's the only free time I have to play), but lately I've been picking up full games on Plunder very quickly! :D

Freezing?

I played UC2 the other day after a while. Did a few updates.

I kept freezing during gameplay, it was as if my controller was dropping out? But the Dpad weapon select still worked. It was as if the sticks were broken for a second...

all 4 DS3's...

I was downloading a ton of porn at the same time, but I'm still wondering is that lag? Or what?

Avid pc gamer here, so I've seen lag.. but it was as if the sticks weren't responding anymore...

How does UC2 lag out?

Couldn't find the Uncharted 1 thread, hope this is ok here. Figure you guys have all played Drake's Fortune anyway.

I recently got a PS3 Slim. Uncharted is my 3rd game after Mirror's Edge and MGS4. I just started playing Uncharted about an hour and a half ago. Here are my impressions, and questions for anyone who can help me out.

Again, I am new to the PS3, but is this game supposed to tax the system so much? My PS3 seems to be accessing the disc constantly, and the machine is so loud when playing this game. MGS4 and Mirror's Edge were not like this at all.

Second, the game seems to have some problems visually, maybe it is my settings on the TV or PS3, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this sort of thing. For example, the textures often times take a long time to load and pop in out of nowhere. Also, mainly when outside in the jungle area, the TV seems to have scan lines (?) going vertically across the screen. Especially when moving the camera quickly. My TV is 1080P capable and the PS3 is set to the highest resolution possible I think. Don't know if I am describing what I am seeing correctly, but it is really distracting and I would gladly take a visual hit if it would take care of the problem. Anyone understand what I am talking about and is it fixable?

As for the game itself, pretty fun so far. Just made it to the start of Chapter 4. I hope the puzzles themselves become more logical. The first little jungle temple was pretty stupid, with convenient oil barrels placed wherever I needed them. I hope with all the praise the game has received that it ends up being a little more clever than that. It doesn't necessarily detract from the fun, but it is a little bit stupid and the puzzles could definitely be thought out a little bit better. I do understand that it was the introductory level, so hopefully the logic and the difficulty will ramp up a little bit moving forward.

Nathan himself, kind of annoying, but I can see myself growing to like him. His oneliners are pretty dumb, but he has that likable action hero thing going on. So not sure how I feel about him quite yet. The voice acting is pretty good though.

Finally, for all the praise received for its visuals, the plants look terrible. Look like cheap, waxy, plasticy leaves. I know there are some plants out there that look like that...but all the green in the game looks this way. The rest of the game looks great though. Not sure if it tops ME or MGS4, but then again, I haven't seen many of the environments yet.

I'm looking forward to playing through the game, and hopefully it'll keep me hooked enough to finish so that I can move forward and play Uncharted 2 next.

Thanks for any help regarding issues above.

Textures should slowly load in after you hit a new chapter, and only then.

PS3 fan -- cant remember --

Yawn @ you crying about the plants. Its not a plant simulator. You remind me of the guys complaining about the Footsteps in Uncharted2, while ignoring that the rest of the game is setting the bar for console visuals.

My advice?

Return it & never buy any multiplatform games in the future if plastic trees get in the way of how UC1 looks, I'd hate for you to see the low res textures, lesser lighting, lesser plants, in most games these days.

Haha, wtf dude? I said the game is fun. Shit I play most of my games on Wii. I was just saying every thing I read on this board and reviews were like "OMG, game looks real!!" It definitely looks pretty damn nice, I just made a comment on the plants. It kind of stands out. Whatever though, thanks for trying to help a little bit.

Also, I'm thinking maybe my PS3 is already on the way out and that could be why I'm having some issues. My last couple of MGS4 sessions I had it freeze once, and fail to load the disc when I wanted to play it about 4 or 5 times. I also had Mirror's Edge fail to load a number of times. Kind of frustrating.

The texture popping is an issue, personally I only had it at the start. It's a matter of the game loading faster than the textures are streaming or something. The second issue you're describing is tearing, because the game isn't vsync'd. Neither are anything to worry about

Keep in mind Uncharted 1, while a good game, is almost three years old now and not nearly as good as it's sequel. Also don't expect a lot of logical sequels. The exploding barrels are dumb. As for the visuals, the game looks amazing. It was never going for an ultra realistic look.

A very fun game in the end though.

Yeah, I am talking about Drake's Fortune. Well maybe I got the praise for the visuals mixed up then. It doesn't matter, my post wasn't even about the plants. It was just an offhand comment, and like I said, I am having fun with the game so far. Gonna get back at it tomorrow hopefully.

DF streams data off the disc to the system to minimize load screens. I don't think I remember my system going apeshit over it, but I wouldn't worry if yours is.

Drake's Fortune has some pop in (the slow texture loading) and screen tearing (the scan lines when moving the camera quickly). It sucks, but there's nothing you can do about it its the game's engine fault. Among Thieves' engine fixes both issues and has 0 pop in & tearing.

Cool, like I said, I'm still very early. The pop in has been a little jarring, but nothing that will detract from the game.

Yeah, I know it is an early PS3 game and it won't look as good as more recent games. I haven't really played any recent games anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference anyway.

Great thing about getting a PS3 now, I have so many older games to catch up on, and they are all amazingly cheap.

Thanks Yoboman for the help regarding the pop-in and tearing. EDIT: And Killthee

Lag was definitely bad tonight and the spawns feel worse. There was one match where I ended up stuck halfway in the ground (host was a laggy Chinese guy).

It seems like they're tinkering with Plunder. The spawns are still awful, but the respawn timer is a lot longer and it feels like running with treasure bearer is faster than it used to be (although that may just be me since I haven't used it in ages).

There were also two instances where we died for no reason. The first time was me while picking up a weapon and then the next time was vs when trying to take cover. I assume it's a side effect of the geometry changes.

Also, on two separate occasions we got kicked out of matchmaking about 10 seconds after starting it. Not a big deal, but a little odd.

Mine is easily replicated- at the top of village, take cover at the M4 under the BBQ house while standing diagonally to the left of the crate. Instant suicide.

One of the most frustrating bits last night was when I got a pulldown in Fort and it counted as a suicide for my victim, and I got no credit. :(

I did get nearly 3 million yesterday- only 17 mill away from 60!

Alright, ever since I installed the new patch I can't see anyone playing online. My PS3 rebooted mid download for some reason.. I'm guessing the problems were because of that? But I deleted game date, re-downloaded ALL 8 patches, waited patiently for the re-sync thing while connecting (why does it take so long to re-sync?), still can't see anyone playing (except for 1 friend). :( I can play on my own or with that friend just fine though, wtf is going on??? Ugh.. SOOO ANNOYING!!

Euro version? Apparently 1.08 was (accidentally?) released for the Euro version. The game syncs you with people running the same client when you connect online. I'm guessing the number of people playing 1.08 is really small right now since they only released it in Europe and its late night over there right now.

You can find that info under the Medals tab in the main menu (and in single player I think). I agree it sucks that you can't view that info while connected to the servers. The Medals Stats page also has the requirements for each medal.

I was about to post something similar to this. Is it worth it to get back into multiplayer right now? Like buying the map packs, and stuff? Is it all still fairly populated, and still as accessible or more "I'm so amazing cause I know every secret, and technique" players left?

Nah, skill is no longer required. You just need to know how to aim your gun at someone and fire for half a second and they're dead. Yeah, the player population is still pretty high, so you don't have to worry about not getting into a game quickly.

Why couldn't I see guys from NA then? Hasn't it been released in NA? I got paranoid and deleted my game data TWICE and re downloaded everything and the map packs. Haven't checked today though, hopefully it's fixed. I'm so addicted to this game and I have a few really good friends from US that I play with everyday. It won't be as fun without em. :(

SCEA hasn't released the patch in N.A., we're stuck using 1.07, hence the desynchronization between the versions. We have a long three day weekend in the U.S., hence the dbl xp weekend that ends on Tuesday and the start of The Lab, and probably won't get the patch till Tuesday at the earliest. I'm positive 1.08 wasn't meant to be released this weekend and SCEE jumped the gun with it. The game will be region locked online till SCEA releases the patch and the clients are synced once again : (

Both DLC Map Packs support Co-Op Arena and the second map pack adds a new mode to it, Siege (easy survival mode in which all three players have to stay inside a circle for a certain amount of time to end the round).

Me and my friend use the 2v2 lab as an opener to get back in the game. It hugely favors friends with mics in my opinion, and we haven't lost a game out of the 6 we played yet. This mode REQUIRES teamwork.

Maybe hit 51 sometime tonight (if GAF is doing arena or just pure wins for DM/Plunder [still need to get wins for the trophies on those anyway]) if I get through 50 sometime before 6PM today. :/

If you're talking about "The Lab" then the US has had it since Thursday night. US hasn't gotten the 1.08 patch yet while Europe (accidentally) has.

anyone else having trouble getting plunder matches??? If i do straight up deathmatch takes less than 5 seconds to get a full list of players. The spawns are still broken in plunder so there's a good chance that far fewer people are playing it.

No one ever plays all objective. A few times we've had two GAF parties both doing All objective and they ended up running into each other a bunch of times.
