I recently got a PS3 Slim. Uncharted is my 3rd game after Mirror's Edge and MGS4. I just started playing Uncharted about an hour and a half ago. Here are my impressions, and questions for anyone who can help me out.
Again, I am new to the PS3, but is this game supposed to tax the system so much? My PS3 seems to be accessing the disc constantly, and the machine is so loud when playing this game. MGS4 and Mirror's Edge were not like this at all.
Second, the game seems to have some problems visually, maybe it is my settings on the TV or PS3, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this sort of thing. For example, the textures often times take a long time to load and pop in out of nowhere. Also, mainly when outside in the jungle area, the TV seems to have scan lines (?) going vertically across the screen. Especially when moving the camera quickly. My TV is 1080P capable and the PS3 is set to the highest resolution possible I think. Don't know if I am describing what I am seeing correctly, but it is really distracting and I would gladly take a visual hit if it would take care of the problem. Anyone understand what I am talking about and is it fixable?
As for the game itself, pretty fun so far. Just made it to the start of Chapter 4. I hope the puzzles themselves become more logical. The first little jungle temple was pretty stupid, with convenient oil barrels placed wherever I needed them. I hope with all the praise the game has received that it ends up being a little more clever than that. It doesn't necessarily detract from the fun, but it is a little bit stupid and the puzzles could definitely be thought out a little bit better. I do understand that it was the introductory level, so hopefully the logic and the difficulty will ramp up a little bit moving forward.
Nathan himself, kind of annoying, but I can see myself growing to like him. His oneliners are pretty dumb, but he has that likable action hero thing going on. So not sure how I feel about him quite yet. The voice acting is pretty good though.
Finally, for all the praise received for its visuals, the plants look terrible. Look like cheap, waxy, plasticy leaves. I know there are some plants out there that look like that...but all the green in the game looks this way. The rest of the game looks great though. Not sure if it tops ME or MGS4, but then again, I haven't seen many of the environments yet.
I'm looking forward to playing through the game, and hopefully it'll keep me hooked enough to finish so that I can move forward and play Uncharted 2 next.
Thanks for any help regarding issues above.
commedieu said:Yawn @ you crying about the plants. Its not a plant simulator. You remind me of the guys complaining about the Footsteps in Uncharted2, while ignoring that the rest of the game is setting the bar for console visuals.
My advice?
Return it & never buy any multiplatform games in the future if plastic trees get in the way of how UC1 looks, I'd hate for you to see the low res textures, lesser lighting, lesser plants, in most games these days.
catchabad0ne said:Haha, wtf dude? I said the game is fun. Shit I play most of my games on Wii. I was just saying every thing I read on this board and reviews were like "OMG, game looks real!!" It definitely looks pretty damn nice, I just made a comment on the plants. It kind of stands out. Whatever though, thanks for trying to help a little bit.
The texture popping is an issue, personally I only had it at the start. It's a matter of the game loading faster than the textures are streaming or something. The second issue you're describing is tearing, because the game isn't vsync'd. Neither are anything to worry aboutcatchabad0ne said:Couldn't find the Uncharted 1 thread, hope this is ok here. DF streams data off the disc to the system to minimize load screens. I don't think I remember my system going apeshit over it, but I wouldn't worry if yours is.catchabad0ne said:Couldn't find the Uncharted 1 thread, hope this is ok here. Figure you guys have all played Drake's Fortune anyway.

Euro version? Apparently 1.08 was (accidentally?) released for the Euro version. The game syncs you with people running the same client when you connect online. I'm guessing the number of people playing 1.08 is really small right now since they only released it in Europe and its late night over there right now.Inanna said:Alright, ever since I installed the new patch I can't see anyone playing online. My PS3 rebooted mid download for some reason.. I'm guessing the problems were because of that? But I deleted game date, re-downloaded ALL 8 patches, waited patiently for the re-sync thing while connecting (why does it take so long to re-sync?), still can't see anyone playing (except for 1 friend).I can play on my own or with that friend just fine though, wtf is going on??? Ugh.. SOOO ANNOYING!!

You can find that info under the Medals tab in the main menu (and in single player I think). I agree it sucks that you can't view that info while connected to the servers. The Medals Stats page also has the requirements for each medal.Melfice7 said:the badges of honour really should explain what you need to do in order to profit -.- i had veiled and didnt know i had to kill 5 guys to get the "bonus"

Why couldn't I see guys from NA then? Hasn't it been released in NA? I got paranoid and deleted my game data TWICE and re downloaded everything and the map packs. Haven't checked today though, hopefully it's fixed. I'm so addicted to this game and I have a few really good friends from US that I play with everyday. It won't be as fun without em.Killthee said:Euro version? Apparently 1.08 was (accidentally?) released for the Euro version. SCEA hasn't released the patch in N.A., we're stuck using 1.07, hence the desynchronization between the versions. We have a long three day weekend in the U.S., hence the dbl xp weekend that ends on Tuesday and the start of The Lab, and probably won't get the patch till Tuesday at the earliest. I'm positive 1.08 wasn't meant to be released this weekend and SCEE jumped the gun with it. The game will be region locked online till SCEA releases the patch and the clients are synced once again : (Inanna said:Why couldn't I see guys from NA then? Hasn't it been released in NA? Both DLC Map Packs support Co-Op Arena and the second map pack adds a new mode to it, Siege (easy survival mode in which all three players have to stay inside a circle for a certain amount of time to end the round).Cesar said:So, I haven't played this game in months and apparently I missed two DLC packs I believe? Thank you so much for replying, I can rest easy now that I know its not my PSN messing up. If you're talking about "The Lab" then the US has had it since Thursday night. US hasn't gotten the 1.08 patch yet while Europe (accidentally) has.Darkatomz said:How's the new playlist guys? Sitting in China right now, and I've been itching to try it since it was announced.
