Uncharted: The Lost Legacy |OT| Ladies Trip

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
Finished it last night. Whew! That was fun. Possibly the most fun I had playing Uncharted, honestly.

...Then I kinda ruined things for me by, instead of going to bed, trying the Survival Mode (single-player with an AI since I don't have PS+) "just for a little bit". Ended up repeating wave 9 so often it got super late, and then there was wave 10 and... yeah. I couldn't pause, so I put the PS4 on sleep/suspend mode and hope it "saved" my progress somehow. xD

I should not have done that. I think those waves are gonna be fun with a partner, but not with the crappy AI...

I loved Uncharted 4, with reservations, but i have no qualms in stating that this game was amazing and quite possibly my favourite of the series. The dynamic between Chloe and Nadine was perfect. So many great bits of banter, and flat out hilarious moments that elevated the experience.

The ramp up in action in the last 3rd was spectacular.

The reward for getting all the tokens was a great addition. For the first time i might get all the treasures in an Uncharted game without using a guide!

I really want Naughty Dog to seriously consider continuing the series with Chloe as the lead. I want to see more of her and Nadine.
Yeah, I agree with all of that.

Just finished the game. Enjoyed it overall. It was overall a pretty tight, well made experience. Did appreciate the openness of Chapter 4. Was a nice little deviation. Uncharted is one of my favorite series in gaming period. The very first game I played was Pitfall on the Atari 2600, it is what made me fall in love with video games, and I have always said I felt Uncharted is the culmination of all of my years of gaming wrapped in the perfect package. As if the series was made especially for myself. I truly cannot express how much I have enjoyed the series overall.

With that said, I do believe it is official, I am finally experiencing "UCF," or "Uncharted Climbing Fatigue."

The climbing was awesome when it was introduced. By Uncharted 4 if started feeling a lot of been there done that. With this game it just felt like I was going through the motions. Even with the self awareness, it felt tedious and boring. How many more ledges can break off and have me drop to one below? I swear I was able to predict every single time it happened, and it happens a decent amount, and that is no bueno.

So I cannot believe I am saying this, as it is one of my favorite series ever, but it is time to move on Naughty Dog. You guys are wizards. Wow us with something else after TLOU 2. Leave Uncharted to be remembered as the brilliant series it overall was. Please do not have me climb anything else, as I will, and that will make me start to change my mind on things. And that would be a true damn shame.

holy god this puzzle! I'm usually pretty good at puzzle in these games but for some reason this one melted my brain. It took for eeeeever!

BUT! It felt good to finally get it without any guides. Anyone else have trouble with this one?

Took me about an hour to figure it out. I think I was stuck for 30 min, took break to have dinner and returned to complete it a bit later.

Finished this just there and that was wonderful. That final chapter was ridiculously good. I honestly wouldn't mind if these just released games like this every few years. I loved spending time with these characters.

Series ranking

2 > LL > 4 > > > 3 > 1

Played for few hours. Loved the dialog. Otherwise same old uncharted. Kind of funny but after Horizon: Zero Dawn all those climbing sections feel a bit sluggish, or not so fluid and great. Still feels like a solid game, not any better or any worse than UC4.

Time for a negative - why, oh why do ND persist with their horrible optional conversations system? It is always, ALWAYS glitchy e.g. just now the prompt appeared above Nadine's head, yet I couldn't respond because I had a winch in my hand, then it disappeared, lost forever. No way to trigger it again, so an achievement lost. They have never worked well in any of the games featuring them.

Yeah, I don't like that hidden timer the optional conversations have. On one in Ch. 5, I couldn't get to Nadine fast enough. I was able to restart the checkpoint and get it.
I'll definitely be using PowerPyx or PS4Trophies Youtube walkthroughs for these.

Just finished it. Wow, that final chapter was incredible, up there with the best in the series. And did Naughty Dog really just
create a train level that was, at the very least, on par with the one in UC2?
. Amazing.

Holy shit, could they have thought of something more boring to do than push that cart back up the slope, change tracks and push it back to where it was in the first place?

Any one else finds it adorable that Nadine is such a huge animal lover, she's always gives you facts or comments about any of the animals you meet in the game. Adds to her personalty a lot I feel.

Chapter 6 on crushing is some grade A bullshit.

The game is Grade A bullshit in general. Some of the most poorly thought out and infuriating encounter design I've experienced this generation. It's a stunningly beautiful game with some great moments but I was so pissed off by Chapter 8 that I removed the disc and swore an oath I'd never touch it again.

ND might be one of the laziest and least competent studios in the industry when it comes to difficulty scaling, but TLL is by far and away their magnum opus in the realm vein-burstingly infuriating encounter design.

lol. this took maybe 4 minutes? It really isn't that hard. You gotta work out where things should go and use the blocks to prevent them from sliding too far etc.

peopel complaining about crushing. lol.

So the other night I went to sleep while streaming the game. I left Chloe on top of the tower in The Western Ghats. I woke up and she was still going at it (if you know what I'm talking about).

I've since deleted most of the stream "chunks" BUT I left a 4 hour 42 minute of nothing but Chloe on the tower doing her thing. It's really therapeutic musically and just gorgeous views.

I thought it was much better than anything from UC3. Oof, that was some of the worst in the franchise. LL actually balanced them fine from my playthrough on Moderate. Not a crazy amount of enemies like the previous games.

thought climbing in this one was great. A return to the form from uncharted 2+3. Multiple routes also great. rope mechanics + swings added a lot to traversal. They do need a break from this franchise - TLOU2, Savage Starlight/New Franchise and then maybe Uncharted 5.

With the trophies I assume I can use the unlimited ammo/ aiming assists/ pick weapons if I want? Or will using them turn of getting trophies?

About to start a crushing playthrough then will be cleaning up any remaining ones.

I noticed someone else post a pic on there - I was wondering how they got up there. I've got to go find out how to climb there. Fun video.I did know know she did any of that - sooo awesome.

If Uncharted is really done then you don't need to worry.

Nice to see they realize the boring platforming to some degree tho, with the crate joke.

I played on hard, which was perhaps the real mistake, but being that I've completed all the previous games on either crushing or hard, I figured it would be fine.

I had to actually stop playing though because it made me so angry - I've not had that from a game in years, but I was honestly about ready to launch my controller... I switched it off there and then.

Probably the most aesthetically pleasing and we'll written of the series, but some of the worst combat encounters IMO. A real shame.

No cheats disable getting the trophy. Infinite RPG it if you want

This is not only a series that has gotten incrementally more difficult on Normal with each passing game, but also a series where the higher difficulties, IMO, have never been tuned to be more fun or more in keeping with the series' best qualities, but only there to punish the player more and keep your screen in black and white the entire time. I have no issues with saying Uncharted is probably best experienced on Normal, just as I do with most shooters because most devs can't balance highers difficulties if their lives depended on it.

The issue begins primarily with shooters not going the extra mile by, rather than simply making it extremely punishing, attempting to actually make higher difficulties mean something through new enemy tactics, new enemy layouts, new weapons, etc. Look at Hideki Kamiya's career and the way he's managed higher difficulties with his action games. Bayonetta is a new game every time you increase the difficulty, and it's not just because enemies start hitting harder and become gods.

With Uncharted, we're talking about a series where reckless abandon is built into the core tone and themes, and improvisation has slowly crept it's way into nearly every combat scenario through wider arenas and enemy alert states. There's also the fact that enemies get more armor and heavier weapons as you progress. Now how increasing damage taken 100 fold and making enemies aimbots fits with any of this is a mystery to me. I've always been in favor of, rather than huge damage and aim buffs, the enemies being remixed, being more athletic, and being more aggressive on Hard and above. Throw in Hunters that use the rope points against the player to get in close, throw in ballistic shield enemies which have completely disappeared from the series (1 or 2 other enemies can line up behind them in SWAT formation), let enemies make use of C4 and mines, throw in heat vision snipers that can reacquire the player even in tall grass, create a new enemy that attempts to take you weapons when they grapple you, etc. Uncharted should've became MORE UNCHARTED on higher difficulties. Faster, more intense, more physical, more spontaneous.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Those extra bits in Chapter 4 were really fun.
I found all 10 out in the world before even visiting the actual map location, let alone climbing the tower.

It was pretty good, maybe Naughty Dog have just set an incredible standard for themselves but nothing blew me away like UC4. Some notes...

Pros

- It's gorgeous. Especially moments in the Western Ghats but the chunk of temple hunting in middle third of the game is beautiful.
- The "compact" tomb design, primarily in Western Ghats. They do a lot with minimal space, which makes the climbing and design a little more interesting.
- Chloe makes for a great lead (Nadine really doesn't seem to have much to her).
- The ladies laying the beatdown at the end.
- Credits ft. MIA and Janice Chu art.

Cons

- I feel like this might be just a byproduct of a short development cycle but the plot progression was really structured.
Most notably in Western Ghats - banter in the jeep, find out more about the backstories at the top of the towers. Really made latter parts of the game predictable.

- The Uncharted tropes are really getting old.
Somehow the newer ones from the Druckmann era like optional conversations, "press triangle to interact with random junk" is getting old faster than waist high walls and "nonononono" did in the Hennig era.
Hope TLOU 2 shakes things up.

---------------------------------------------------------

That's pretty much it but a last note: I really feel like Naughty Dog is planning an open-world game for after TLOU2 (Possibly PS5). It's clear they've been messing around with it and although we don't know anything about TLOU 2, I wouldn't be surprised if it had some sort of open-area too.

The thing is, their open-world ideas so far are incredibly basic and boring. Like I mentioned in the way plot progresses in the open-world, this is sort of the same problem MGSV/FFXV had. Games that used to be linear find it difficult to naturally progress stories and characters when transitioned to an open-world.

I get really worried when I read trophies in Lost Legacy like "Pick every lockbox" - like, are you kidding? That is a complete exercise in tedium for no real benefit. It makes me think that a developer like Naughty Dog who excel on so many fronts are just going to fill their worlds with more meaningless collectathon shit than their already is (there's quite a few treasures in this title for such a short game.) Horizon fell victim to the Ubisoft theme-park world-design, I hope Naughty Dog doesn't fall in to the same mould. It really isn't up to the same standard as the rest of the developer's components.

Anyway, not completely negative about it - just something I've noticed with UC4 and LL.

trophies stuff is optional. treasures also optional. I never felt like I needed to collect them all - I didnt in UC4. Here I did some because I had the
queen on me

That's what trophy design, its there to encourage you to spend time with the game to get xyz. And for me, I never cared for them. Maybe geometry wars (pacifist one). YMMV

Goddamn that was great.

I love how they handled the female leads. They're definitely capable, but they can't hold their own one-on-one with a guy twice their weight. It passes the Bechdel test but they do still discuss their relationships with the other characters. The writing in general is excellent, so many great little moments. The part where
Nadine pushes Chloe off the ridge into the pool
was one of my favorite parts of the game, and I can't think of any other developers who do little touches like that.

It's not perfect, the controls were frustrating to me pretty often as I'd snap to cover when I meant to roll or latch onto the wrong ledge in the middle of a firefight. The climbing parts are getting really, really old. It's really lame when I can tell before I even make a jump that the handhold is going to break because there's other handholds placed conveniently below it. While I though the design for all the combat encounters was awesome, it feels like there's just too many enemies crammed into a small space in some of them, and you'll inevitably turn a corner to escape one enemy just to run into another.

But the fights are still fun, and the art design is incredible. Even though the climbing sections aren't exactly thrilling, I also wouldn't say I was ever really bored just because the environments are so fun just to look at.

Not sure if it's my favorite game in the series, but it's definitely in the running. It's also made me want to play through 4 again, I think it's been long enough that the slower parts won't be too much of a bummer.

Didn't take me long personally, but man I love puzzles in this game. It baffles me that someone said they are as bad as UC4's.

I thought they are much better.

lol. I fucking hate that gif/meme, but that was funny

yeah that one really got me.

Just finished chapter 8.

Holy crap, whoever designed this games environments and stages did some amazing work. Action and plot has been very focused and tight, really loving this.

I felt the same, I thought that puzzle was pretty straightforward but it was still really fun and probably my favorite puzzle in the entire series. They're definitely come a hell of a long ways since the original Find puzzle/ Consult handbook/ Follow simple instructions puzzles from the first games.

Even if it didn't stump me it was still an incredible puzzle. Really impressed someone was able to create the shapes that respond to the room's lighting in that way, just a really cool concept.

Played the first two chapters and really disliked the opening segment.

The way too close camera paired with the slow walking segment and the narrow corridors made me queasy/motion sick.

As soon as the camera zoomed out and the movement sped up to the usual Uncharted speed, I felt better again. I like the occasional slow segment in Uncharted games but none made me feel nauseated. The opening segment is just designed really badly :(

I'm of two minds on the final set piece. One one hand,
it's cool that they went back and "did it right." I'm guessing some of the stuff like jumping to controllable vehicles was stuff they wanted to do with 2 but couldn't at the time because the PS3 just couldn't handle it.

On the other hand there's still a bit of "Been there, done that" to it. As cool as it was i would have preferred they attempt something completely new. 2's train sequence was mind-blowing at the time, but following it up with the ship sequence in 3 where you're navigating and fighting while it fills with water and sinks felt like a progression. If they were going to rehash such a long scene I would have preferred it be in the middle, not the final set piece.

Can't complain to much though, personal preference aside it was pretty insane, definitely more a memorable "holy shit" action scene than anything from 4.

Just finished it. That last chapter. Best moment of the entire gen. Masterful. So glad they didn't spoil that in previews. The ending was great too.

Best uncharted. They need more Chloe and Nadine adventures.

The details are off the chain. When you try and look at photos after you have come out of the water the phone is all condensated under the screen so it's hard to see.

It was very much a been there done that moment to me. I was expecting something way over the top based on the comments in this thread, but I left kind of disappointed.

Just finished the game. I had no hype going into this other than an interest to see what ND did. Don't get me wrong, I loved Uncharted 4, I think it told a really great story, but it was super long and I got the closure I wanted.

But, shiiiiiiiit man. That was so fucking fun. Chloe and Nadine worked so well off each other. Fantastic moments both in and out of combat. Insane set pieces. Perfect length. Just flat out fucking fun.

I also think
Sam's late game inclusion
was a real good way to spice things up a bit towards the end.
He worked so well as the punching bag. "Geez, I'm getting it from all sides today."

Finally,
GOT THAT PIZZA, SON.
