Uncharted: The Lost Legacy |OT| Ladies Trip

By the reaction on this thread, I'm convinced reviewers are full of crap and just review games based on hype. Sounds like it might be the best one in the series.

I can confirm from playing every game in the series including the remasters that this is hands down the best in the series. Sure, you might want to play the previous games for context since it's a follow up but damn, what a good follow up.

Thank you so much. I've done 1-4 on Crushing on my first time but there's just something about LL that is just leaving me so defeated.

You seem to die super fast and they throw a lot of armoured enemies at you, be by far the hardest Uncharted if you couldn't use cheats imo. Some really nasty encounters towards the end, I ended up just RPG spaming and using the 1-shot (2-3 on the armoured guys) pistol eventually.

There was a really nasty section in chapter 4 with enemies
that would grab a hold of you, like two snipers, heavy guys with shot guns. It was brutal.

I'm so glad I dropped the difficulty. There's less enemies, my bullets shot up from 24 to 70, and I picked up a silenced weapon and instead of 5 rounds it had 30.

I kinda need to know who at Naughty Dog loves memes so much lol.

I think most GAF memes in ND games can be attributed to Arne (Former CM and current Comm Director) and Josh (Co-writer). They're probably lurking right now.

Anyone jump into multiplayer? It's not as bad as I thought it'd be as far as getting stomped by people who have been playing it since Uncharted 4 day one. It's kind of a mix.

Well, the coop i've played, 4 out of 5 players kept using long guns during pistol + melee only rounds. I even sent messages. Still used long guns.

Not the smartest lot.

I keep poking my head in here out of curiosity even though I felt like I made my mind up about the series.

But nooooo, we have people comparing this to 2 in terms of fun, pacing and set pieces has me thinking I might have to give it a go.

Edit: Any Uncharted 4 naysayers care to comment on this? I know the ND fans and hypebeasts will love it, but I'm wondering about people who couldn't stand 4 and ended up giving this one a chance. Did it fix what you didn't like about 4?

I like 4, but if your problem with it was there's a lot of wallking, climbing, driving and talking in-between action you probably won't like TLL much more. If it was the gameplay, it's identical, just has more weapon variety. But if it was due to the pacing you'll probably really like TLL, it's not even half as long as 4, so the pacing doesn't suffer much at all.

My problem was that nothing of consequence, gameplay wise, happened outside of the shooting. The platforming, exploration, fist fights with Nadine climbing, etc. were all basically simulated, automatic and risk free requiring little to no thought from the player.

Now, if those sections were filled with good dialogue, interesting characters and themes, a decent plot, I would probably be more forgiving. But U4 really didn't have that stuff going on to a degree that would justify the 17 hours it went on for.

U4 ignored the strengths of the medium and doubled down on telling a highly controlled story that I ultimately found shallow and unengaging. I missed the popcorn flick stupidify of 1-3. The veneer of intellectual/emotional sophistication in U4 fell completely flat for me.

So I'm thinking even if LL doesn't improve on the things I had beef with in 4, it's better pacing and relative brevity may allow me to enjoy it a bit more than 4. I do have fond memories of the series 1-3.

If you liked 1 and 2, LL is pretty much that. LL is a fun time. Different directors as well.

Well, i hate UC4. But i'm having fun with LL. It's not a bloated boring mess. It's more focused. There's an "open world" chapter that is pure filler but the rest of the game is good linear action. Many enemy encounters, specially in the open world chapter are very far cry-ish. Sometimes i have the impression that you're supposed to be stealthy. Hide in tall grass and break necks. Because if you go guns blazing most of the encounters end pretty fast.
The story is nice, the characters are good. ND didn't overuse mechanics such as pushing crates or "boost me up". Climbing is still brain dead but it feels more meaningful this time.

It's still more like UC4. But not as boring.

Thank you. Void, I'm guessing my tastes on this one will align with yours based on your impressions here. Seems like I should give it a go with expectations in check and could end up having a decent time with it.

It's on my list now. Probably pick it up somewhere down the line.

It's hard to say if you'd like it since it depends on why you didn't like UC4. Lost Legacy feels a lot like a natural progression from UC2 to me. It's not paced the same as UC2, though. It has a bigger emphasis on exploration/traversal/puzzles like UC4 did but it's handled so much better. LL has the best mix of puzzles/traversals/combat in the series (as well as the best combat in the series). I never felt like any part of the game dragged on, even near the end when in previous games the combat becomes a bit tiresome. The opening is a bit slow but it's establishing a new location and new characters (as the leads) so I think it's appropriate.

It's definitely not as serious as 4 was and Chloe and Nadine were really fun too, but the villain was standard Uncharted, not really given enough time to shine and kinda forgettable. The back story of the treasure was really good imo too, probably my second favourite to Avery's descent into madness from 4. The climbing is pretty much the same, some will have you looking around a bit to find the next path and it doesn't relie as much on boost your partner up or drop a create down to progress anywhere near as much, but it's still Uncharted climbing. Exploration is the best in the series they pretty much have
a mini open world to explore.

It has the usual stupidly impossible mechanical ancient cities too and probably the best puzzles of the series if that's your thing.

If you're unsure probably best waiting for it to be a little cheaper.

Edit: Should add I went in really not liking Nadine at all, they did a great job with making her likable.

Holy shit, the difference between SDR and HDR in this game is just fucking nuts. Initially I was a bit underwhelmed by the HDR, so I tried switching to SDR for a second out of curiosity and goddamn does it look bad compared to HDR.

Game looks great. Happy to be playing as someone who's not Nathan. Screw that guy.

I just finished it. and WOW.

The ending Holy shit
That train sequence was amazing, like as good or possibly even better than Uncharted 2. because of the ability to jump into cars and the different chaos.
Asav was a good villian, but went a bit too far at the end with his reasoning for his endgame.

I didnt see Sam coming as Asav's expert, but was nice, even if it felt a little too much like Uncharted 2, but so did some of the other moments in the game.

The end credits with the drawings was really cute so was the mid credits scene.
They did a great job with Nadine and making her likable.

Much better than i expected, Almost like ND underplayed what they had made. Would def recommend people to play it. Even if they didnt like Uncharted 4.

It didnt have all the epic moments that the other uncharted games did. but it had 2 great ones. the one in Chapter 5 and the one at the end.

So I redeemed the MP dlc code in the box but am seeing nothing when I'm on multiplayer? What does this code even get you? Asav is a locked character behind those uncharted coins paywall.

Its only for the core unlocks (the guns, gear, boosters, mysticals that are part of the initial progression.

All dlc content still needs to be unlocked the same way (uncharted points or relics and the rng based gods).

Thank god my other account still had the 300 uncharted points preorder bonus, because i wanted that LL Chloe skin bad and used it to purchase that skin directly.

Been replaying Western Ghats to do all the sidequests which I skipped last time. Pretty cool how it's more than a treasure hunt, as ND combines it with confrontations and small puzzles.

Also discovered a neat AI-thing I didn't encounter in my first playtrough (nor in U4 if it was included there too): the guards will notice your abandoned jeep when you park it to close and will sound the alarm or go investigate. My stealth plans were ruined immidiatly because of my stupid parking habbits :D

The older I get, the more I want an engaging context for shooting people in the face, and these games deliver in spades. I'll be playing the shit out of this while my wife has to work late next M W F (#sad!). Can't wait. I still think UC4 is the most impressive looking Pro 4k game I've played, and these impressions have me thinking that LL is at that level, visually.

Can't wait.

Holy fuck these jungles man. This is a good looking game. e: I may or may not have just called my brother to my room just to show how goddamn good this game looks lol

Still at the beginning, but enjoying it so far. I like the fast start, although the passage of time isn't depicted very well. It's just scene, do something, end scene, fade out fade in, scene in a new location, "we've been traveling for a week already!", end scene. Felt kind of jarring, why not at least have a small map transition from scene to scene or something.

i hate Uncharted 4. poor pacing, chapters with zero gameplay. bad puzzles that gave you the answer in drake's journal. 10 hours of platforming and walking. very few combat encounters. very few setpieces.

Now lost legacy, i am in love all over again. To be perfectly honest, it's still got some of the issues uncharted 4 had. there are still very few combat encounters and setpieces, and yet because the pacing is improved, you dont really care. you move from one area to the next without much climbing and walking. there arent cutscenes interrupting the gameplay every five seconds. there are no chapters without combat scenarios.

The puzzles are a huge improvement. they feel like they were taken out of a zelda or god of war game. they are ingenious and dont require you to look at any journals. chapter 4 is like the madacasgar chapter except it has hidden dungeons and trials scattered all over. its brilliant.

even the platforming feels great because it is rare and feels like a nice change of pace. in U4 that was the main course. here its just an appetizer.

I would still like there to be more combat encounters and setpieces but its a minor complaint. the bottom line is that the way the puzzles, exploration and combat encounters are paced, it feels fun all the time.

Finished this last night. I absolutely loved it, loves the boss fight and could easily make a case as my favorite Uncharted game. I was kind of tired of the formula after 4, but this game rejuvenated my desire for another uncharted. I hope they make a sequel with Chloe and Nadine, it would be day 1 for me.

I wish there were a way to wipe Uncharted 4 out of existence and have The Lost Legacy take it's place.

The last few chapters were amazingly fun, and that ending was just so so so perfect.

Anybody play this without playing the other Uncharted games? This is the only one I have really wanted to jump into.

Not recommended. The characters and story are built upon the past games. UC4 is a must play. If you don't want to play it, at least watch a LP cuz a lot of conversations recall events from UC4.

There are callbacks and some ties to U4, but like the other games this is a mostly standalone thing. If you want the finest crystallization of Uncharted gameplay, then go for it.

Time for a negative - why, oh why do ND persist with their horrible optional conversations system? It is always, ALWAYS glitchy e.g. just now the prompt appeared above Nadine's head, yet I couldn't respond because I had a winch in my hand, then it disappeared, lost forever. No way to trigger it again, so an achievement lost. They have never worked well in any of the games featuring them.

Yea, I don't understand that. They could just let it play out.

If you missed it, try reloading a checkpoint. They usually occur after one.

You don't really NEED to play other games since this is a stand alone game but you'll miss some call backs and backstory and I'm not sure certain moments will be as meaningful if you don't have any affinity towards Chloe. I'd recommend watching a recap on YouTube of UC2 and UC4 and then jumping into Lost Legacy, that is if you don't plan on playing them.

This is the first Uncharted game i've ever played. It's pretty fun but I don't think I could slog through a really long one of these.

I'm assuming in the longer games puzzle mechanics aren't kept this fresh and varied. I'm doing the "Open Worldy" section early in the game getting all these optional tokens.
I actually worry what the impressions would be from someone who just played the mandatory stuff, each of those three seem to have a completely identical slidy puzzle at the end, where the optional areas have unique stuff

I actually like the two girls more then I expected to, but a heck of a lot more then boring white guy. It feels kind of like a fun summer modern indiana jones type movie

When do the bonuses and photo mode unlock? I went into chapter select (chapter 6) and it wasn't available so I figured I might need to just do it in New Game +. Chapter 3, a few encounters in, and I'm still lacking the ability to use them.

Am I unable to use them because I changed difficulties over halfway through?

Have you unlocked them by "buying" the from the main menu.

I couldn't see any menu to buy anything, just the usual story, multiplayer, survival, options stuff. I'll have another look.

Edit: Oh. It comes with Patch 1.01. I'm without internet on my console because Uni blocks it. Fuck.
