Edmure just got married so he'll carry on the Tully name?

Yeah, and I'd bet he escapes the Lannisters somehow. Possibly the Brotherhood. Although I wonder if twisted in the undead head Catelyn will somehow blame him for the Red Wedding, if they should cross paths.

Well, the Blackfish is still alive, and so is Edmure.

I hate TV Barristan. Why does he laugh/chuckle when talking to Dany? He's supposed to be a severe and serious man, not a giggly grandpa.

They got him and Tormund confused.

I like the actor, but they should sharpen up the writing. He's softened since he showed up from King's Landing. Hopefully he gets a few good scenes coming up.

I really hate cat. I'm still salty that shes still alive (kinda).

Its mostly the way she treats Jon. I mean I can understand that hes a living symbol of Ned cheating on her (even though he probably didn't), but its not his fault. Its like she places the blame on Jon instead of Ned. He was trying to say goodbye to Bran in the first season and Cat is just like get the F out of here scum. Wtf is wrong with her.

I still can't believe how people don't realize this is the unmarked spoilers thread. It's in CAPS in the damn thread title and there are HUGE RED LETTERS AT THE TOP OF EACH PAGE INFORMING PEOPLE THIS IS THE UNMARKED SPOILERS THREAD.

I know it's a bit rant-ish, but you really can't complain when there's little margin for error.

At least they're consistent in their devotion to not reading.

Yeah he had that incredible scene and really not much else.

Ser Jorah's betrayal, will be interesting too. I wonder how different that'll be here.

Exactly.

When did the producers approach GRRM, and was the R+L=J theory already popular on the message boards before this said meeting?

Also, did I hear a mention of entertainment or something along those lines for Joffrey's W'day in episode 1?

It's been a theory since 1996 but became more popular when ACOK came out, due to Dany's vision of Jon in the HOTU. And the explosion of internet forums expanded it.

It's definitely the defining, biggest ASOIAF theory. About a decade ago, back when TWOW was supposed to be the fifth novel in the series, Martin told a fan that we would learn more about Jon's parents in TWOW. Now TWOW is the seventh book but I believe it'll still be revealed.

Game of Thrones was just renewed for S5 & S6!
HBO said:
LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2014 – HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a fifth and sixth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

“GAME OF THRONES is a phenomenon like no other,” noted Lombardo. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, GAME OF THRONES is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. The Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning series launched its ten-episode fourth season Sunday, April 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, with other episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time.

Cast regulars for the fourth season of GAME OF THRONES include: Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Alfie Allen, Jerome Flynn, Conleth Hill, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Stephen Dillane, Natalie Dormer, Iain Glen, Kristofer Hivju, Sibel Kekilli, Rose Leslie, Rory McCann, Michael McElhatton, Iwan Rheon and Carice van Houten.

Among the early critical praise for the fourth season, the Los Angeles Times called GAME OF THRONES “the Best Television Show Ever,” adding that “no other series comes close,” and “television just doesn’t get any better than this,” while Newsday hailed the series as “still TV’s best,” awarding the show an A+. The Hollywood Reporter observed, “The consistency of excellence in GAME OF THRONES is truly something to behold,” and the San Francisco Chronicle described it as “great and addictive.”

The season four premiere of GAME OF THRONES on Sunday, April 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) was watched by an average of 6.6 million viewers, making it HBO’s most-watched program since the finale of “The Sopranos” in 2007 (11.9 million viewers). The premiere improved 52% over last season’s premiere and 23% over last season’s finale. GAME OF THRONES added an additional 1.6 million viewers from the 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. replays, for a gross audience of 8.2 million viewers for the night. Season three of the series had an average gross audience of 14.4 million viewers per episode.

Season four credits: The executive producers of GAME OF THRONES are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield; co-executive producers, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin; producers, Chris Newman and Greg Spence.

Can't wait for TWOW then (even more so than before, if such a thing is possible). Thanks for the info.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I wish they show could have somehow included Ned's frequent thoughts of Lyanna's dying words.

Game of Thrones was just renewed for S5 & S6!

Yay!

And I still lol at GRRM thinking/saying the tv production will just ~stop~ for a few years to let him write the books.

Ha. Like Bran and Arya haven't already aged enough.

End of S6? I expect we'll see new stuff in season 5. Some of the story-lines already don't have much book material left at the start of season 4.

Yeah, Dany is already in ADWD-ville. This season will probably get her up to date actually, or really close to it.

TWOW is the 6th book. A Dream of Spring
A Time for Wolves
is the 7th book.

If I had to guess you might see bits of it in S5 (for some storylines), S6 is probably going to be mostly TWoW. That's just my opinion though.

I think you are right. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if TWoW is published about the same time that season 6 airs.

Will we start seeing some new (i.e. not in books) stuff towards the end of S6?

Spoiler below from released chapters from TWoW:
(TWoW stuff should be spoilered bar'd even here, right?)

The scene from with Arya in the first episode of this season was already modifed from the released Mercy chapter from TWoW. It would not surprise me if a couple more things this season are pulled from TWoW, and we won't even know until TWoW comes out.

Only way that could ever happen is if it's in the contract, and there's no way HBO would be stupid enough to go with that.

Exactly. Plus, there HAS to be language in there allowing HBO to continue or finish the story as they see fit whether or not he's finished with the books. There's no way they'd leave it up to him (and I'm not sure GRRM would want it to be all on him).

Do think it's possible they will actually film parts of the the two seasons concurrently? With the younger actors aging, it might make sense. LIke they could flim the majority of Bran's scenes for both seasons.

That could possibly be why they asked for a two season renewel.

Hasn't it already been said the Martin has told the show folks how things end? In broad strokes anyway. So they are capable of finishing the TV show without the books.

I wonder if what he has told them is completely different to how he will actually end the story.

Winds of Winter opening battles will be season 6 finale. Calling it!

There's no way they're dragging book 4/5 across more than two seasons

I doubt it. The producers have said that 10 episodes per season is the most they can do. I know that you are only talking about filming, but I have to imagine the extra work involved to do even that would strain their resources too much.

Besides, Bran will be a tree soon, so I don't think anyone is worried about Isaac looking too old. :)

You know, as we get into Feast and Dragons territory, I have to say this:

I think the show is getting better as the books drop in quality. If this keeps up, I might not be mad if the show ends the story first.

Yeah, he's deluded himself into thinking they'll delay the show, or at least the story in the show, somehow so that it won't catch up with his writing. But it will.

Yup, the showrunners and HBO aren't going to sacrifice their money, ratings, just because GRRM writes so slowly. I only read the books after Christmas to New Years. I couldn't imagine having to wait 5-6 years for a single book. And it's funny because at the end of AFFC, he says the next book should be released within a year or two, but took him like another 6 years.

The story should catch up probably by the end of next season, depending on where they end off with this season.

They got him and Tormund confused.

Jaime sent Edmure off with a like 200+ guard with express instructions to kill Edmure if he tries anything or if anyone tries to attack, right? I wonder if the Brotherhood will force Jaime to somehow get Edmure out of that bind, either because Cat is crazy and wants to punish him herself, or she's still more in there than we realized and wants to secure a Tully heir before going nuts on the Freys.

And two season renewal sounds great. I wonder how it will affect things actually being able to firmly plan an extra season in advance. That's got to free them up to do some things they wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.
