SPOILER THREAD OR SOME SHIT HERE

What? How can you say that. You dont know how important or not she will be down the line.

The producers do though. GRRM is a producer on the show, has most of the 2nd to last book written by now, and certainly knows where he is going with the story.

That's why I don't understand the worrying about where the show is going. GRRM is there.

The strangling scene better be ultra-uncomfortable. I fear they might chicken out on that trying to keep a character 'sympathetic'. And I'm being vague because some poor fool will accidentally click on this thread just tonight, with my luck, and I'll feel bad spoiling that.

Tywin shitting may be to much for tv.

I don't know how they can make it look serious and not like South Park.

In the books, that whole sequence never was about the serious gravitas. It was always kinda hilarious. I guess they just need to play it straight. Otherwise the line can't happen!

D&D do. If she is cut, then you pretty much know her role in the books won't be particularly important or integral to the overall plot.

A reminder that if she isn't in tonight it doesn't mean she is cut. At all. In the slightest. And out of all the things in the next two books they might cut, Zombified version of previous main character isn't going to be one of them.

Yeah, anything that we see in the show that is from unreleased books is still mostly canon. Its not like D&D are just going to start making up their own major plot lines

Is there a collection somewhere of the Winter released chapters? I've only read the Barristan 1 (or 2?) at the end of the Kindle version of Dance.

GRRM is a co-executive producer actually, so he's not there. He's rarely there, actually. He writes his single episode per season but has no official say over the direction of the show (as evidenced by things that have been done that he is not fond of).

btw what happened to Rickon and Osha? I thought for sure they'd give them a storyline of their own this season after everyone had been raving about Natalia Tena's performance for the last few years.

btw, btw, I also think the season will end with Bran/Bloodraven scene.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
It doesn't really work on TV, so I personally hope they cut Tyrion's line about shitting gold.

They'll probably use that line in a future episode when Tyrion tells this story to someone else.

Mystery is fine but the problem is mysteries it's impossible to be invested in. Like what even is a "glass candle"? People are constantly talking about those, we've even had a "camera" in a room with them but we don't even know what they're made out of or what they mean. Magic is back? I guess? They obsidian maybe? What does it mean they're burning? Why does everyone in the story understand their significance but we're in the dark. GRR overteases stuff.
Wha? They explain those in AFFC a glass candle is an invention by the Valyrians, it's a communication device used to talk to people over long distances it can (from what we know) also be used to spy on people miles and miles away.

When Bryan Cogman (writer, producer) appeared in a podcast during this season, he said that they run all the scripts by George before filming.

No way they do LSH without a 'previously on' reminder of the BWB. So I think we'll know within minutes of the start whether or not she'll appear.
Right?

That's not what that would mean. Not in the slightest.

D&D have been completely opaque as to why content is changed, omitted, or expanded upon from the source material. It could be any number of production logistics, resources, or just creative divergence. Just because something is or isn't represented isn't indicative of the D&D "amazing content filter" being employed. If Stoneheart is cut, she could appear next season. And if she is cut completely from the show, it could be a very poor decision on their part. We don't know enough about where that plot thread goes to say one way or another.

The only conclusive thing to say is that D&D have a reasonable track record of making both, good changes and not-so-good ones.

When Bryan Cogman (writer, producer) appeared in a podcast during this season, he said that they run all the scripts by George before filming.

This doesn't mean anything happens or changes based on his access and possible feedback. It's probably done out of a combination of respect/formality. I'd speculate that his contract lets him see scripts when complete to offer suggestions and notes.

I didn't mean literally there, like sitting there while they work.

I meant he's involved, and has said on numerous occasions he's told the producers which specific directions he's going. And he pens an episode per season, so he's directly involved. It's foolish to think D&D don't know virtually everything about Winter, and have a real good idea what the bullet points are for the last book.

Winter exists in some form already, and is fully 1/2 of the remaining story.

My overall point is that for a book-to-TV production, the producers have stayed the course almost exactly and that seems to be due to their explicit intention to stick very closely with book plot, and the fact the author is directly involved with the show on various levels.

Deviations have been very minor overall. Almost all storiy arcs end in the same place they do in the books, and where they don't, generally they are minor plot points. (see the Ironborn's fear of dogs, etc.)

Patchface just made me think...a shame we won't get "she's been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know".

Though, I'm sure Tyrion will reveal to Jaime that Cersei's been hooking up with other dudes the whole time under his nose.

I think everyone will be a lot happier if they stop expecting the show to be a transcript of the novel's dialogue :)

lol cutting "wherever whores go" would be a godsend, I don't want to hear that line six times every episode going forward.

I think Jon's character comes a lot from Book readers having a good idea who he is. Something the show watchers lack.

As a Jon fan I'll admit I fill in a lot of the gaps from what I know of his thoughts in the books. If only D&D were as into him as they were Dany....

I think Season 4 Jon has been done pretty well

Season 1 was a bit awkward but I loved his scenes with Tyrion.

Season 2 was weak outside of the premiere when he was beefing with Craster.

Season 3 I noticed he changed in the voice and demeanor slightly which I liked and the Ygritte scenes were good.

Season 4 I think he's channeling Lord Commander Snow early and he seems much more comfortable at it.

I thought his fight with Magnar was the best one the show has done yet I felt like one misstep and Jon loses a head lol that guy was intimidating as hell.

Agreed. Styr was an awesome villain and both actors displayed a great level of physicality that sometimes is lacking in this show.

Even though they haven't shown Mance this season, they've done an alright job building him up as a real threat. Jon mentions him constantly throughout this season, and that giant fire left an impression for sure.

I don't get the hate for Jon in the show or Kit Harrington. I think Harrington has certainly gotten a lot better in season three and four, though I didn't think he was bad at all in season one and two. I do wish they capped off the lord commander stuff this year, but we all know how barren in content books four and five are for Jon so they need something good for next season.

I think we can all agree that the biggest build up botch has been Tysha. All they had to do was mention her once or twice this season and it would've been alright, but so far NADA.

I disagree on Mance, I don't feel anything at all towards him, I actually forgot what he looked like.

Tormund was the guy who felt like the face of the wildlings and was portrayed as their leader, Mance to me was some nobody who kept getting name dropped once in a while.

This is gonna be one packed finale, can't wait to see the reactions in the other thread. Tonights episode is longer than an hour right?

Mance isn't a fierce warrior, but he commands respect. I loved how his introduction conveyed that.

It will end with LSH since it is such a revelation which will make all social media flare up and make the show even more popular.

So from a business PoV it would make the most sense.

People in the other thread are already onto the fact that the Children of the Forest are going to appear in the episode, based on the fact that the episode is titled "The Children". Dumb spoilery episode title. Harrumph.

But did she?

I mean we never saw it in the show, was strongly implied in the books IIRC, but as far as the show goes that'd be Tyrion telling a huge lie to Jaime.

Even if you didn't think the battle at the wall was perfect, it was still nice to see considering how everything else in the north has been screwed up. Mance having no presence whatsoever, the Halfhand being completely forgettable, Ghost having 1 scene per season and no battle at the fist at all.

The story lines up there lost everything interesting, so I'm glad at least something worked out.
