*UNMARKED SPOILERS ALL BOOKS* Game of Thrones |OT| - Season 5 Offseason Thread

I've joked to friends that on the show he's the JarJar Binks of Game of Thrones. He's constantly in horrible, near-death situations that should have dire consequences and yet he fumbly manages to make it out alive or save the day each time.
Thats so mean. A nicer archetype would be Indiana Jones

The closer we get the more sure I am that LSH is not in the finale. At this point I'm so fucking convinced she won't be that I'm gonna be legit shook if she is.

Only 9 hours...

Judging by the number of times you've posted about it I dunno how you could possibly be getting any more sure about it than you already were.

Based on some mysterious posts around the web I've seen I'm starting to think maybe LSH is in after all.

First he said she's not in, and then he later said he only said that so that everyone is even more shocked when she appears.

So @________@ Who knows ...

Hehe.. the one guy telling everyone not to get hyped for Stoneheart is clearly the most hyped for Stoneheart.

Heh. They're running a marathon on HBO today and just ran a promo of fathers yelling at their sons throughout the series (Robert/Joff, Roose/Ramsay, Balon/Theon, etc.) that ended with Tywin condemning Tyrion to death, ending with "Happy Father's Day".

Happy Father's Day indeed, Tywin! @___@.

Hah, it's going to be so rad when Bloodraven appears and the Unsullied don't know how the fuck he is and why should they care.

The same when the day L+R=J arrives, they will go "Rhae-Huh?" "Who's Lyanna?" "Who is Jon? Oh, the guy with the open mouth".

I know some people that follow the tv series, and the tv series only, and they don't know who are the characters most ot the time. I can't imagine what it must be like to not know who is appearing on screen. I myself probably wouldn't bother with the series had I not read the books, maybe it's all the sex and gore that keeps non-readers hooked to this thing?

Most people also didn't care about R+L after reading the books, it's internet fans that make a big deal out of that.

This isnt true at all. Its a big deal if you like the story in any capacity. Ive told show watcher friends about it and they are all very intrigued by it

Don't see how you could say that with any certainty, we know next to nothing of what she is planning.

Well, that we know next to nothing about her is what makes her disposable now. There's no there there.

I mean, I'm not sure why Bloodraven is exciting either. He's like probably some kinda Targaryen wizard guy?

Series has too many just totally unmotivated mysteries by the end of Dance.

Hmm, I disagree totally. I love that the books have all these unsolved little tidbits. Missing swords at Winterfell, the gravedigger, Bloodraven, etc. Some of them won't matter at all in the end IMO and I like that.

I hope he leaves some stuff unsolved.

Mystery is fine but the problem is mysteries it's impossible to be invested in. Like what even is a "glass candle"? People are constantly talking about those, we've even had a "camera" in a room with them but we don't even know what they're made out of or what they mean. Magic is back? I guess? They obsidian maybe? What does it mean they're burning? Why does everyone in the story understand their significance but we're in the dark. GRR overteases stuff.

Aren't the missing swords from when Bran & co escaped from Winterfell?

Bloodraven will most definitely matter in the endgame, one way or another. And I don't know about gravedigger, maybe there will be a twist but I'm on the "Gravedigger is Hound" boat

Season Finale: The Children

Programming note: Tonight's episode runs long, slotted in a 70 minute time slot (actual run time is listed at 66 minutes). Adjust your DVRs and watching schedules accordingly.

66 min episode, followed by 4 min clip of GRRM announcing the release date of TWOW

Yeah I agree, just giving examples of stuff that are mysterious in the books.

There's a whole ton of stuff that's unexplained, and I hope a bunch of it stays that way.

Anyhow, just a difference in medium. The TV show doesn't have the ability to show a lot of that kind of thing. It's just the way it is.

Yes. That's only a mystery in the way that "Abel and his family" are a mystery.

It amazes me how some people spend hours trawling through the books for these mysteries but somehow manage to miss Bran & Co. taking swords with them and Ned talking about the swords of the old kings rusting away to nothingness.

I thought there were a few unaccounted for missing swords? Perhaps I've remembered that wrong.

No need for snark.

Bloodraven is great. He is a hundred year old Targaryen guy (he was Aemon's uncle?), who was a Night's Watch Commander and a contester for the throne and most importantly: he knows EVERYTHING in the world of ASOIAF. Or at least he should know a lot with the twist that he can't do practically anything, just observe. And now Bran will be that guy and his tiresome trip will be totally worth it at last.

If you don't know about him previously... well, he is a tree-guy half rotten with a cool name.

PS: Man, imagine when Bran wants to observe Valyria and BR goes all "Your eyes cannot reach that darkness" and then cut to Euron/Daario laughing his ass off on his way to meet/troll Dany and Victarion. Chills, man, chills!

As boring as Meereen has been, the battle their should be the most hectic thing so far and maybe the biggest. So many factions and armies converging and and even smaller stuff like the Maester from the citadel heading their. Hopefully Victarion gets to control a dragon for atleast little bit.

Right, but without knowing what role she will play in later books, we can't just say "well she's disposable so whatev." For all we know LSH could wind up on the Iron Throne!!

In fact, her inclusion tonight would be a hint at the fact that she IS important, yes?
