I'm certainly not gonna miss Aegon, I always found him an unnecesary addition.

I'm gonna miss Victarion though, I like violent pirates.

I'm pretty sure I saw Jaime in a dornish environment, I guess those past leaks were true and I feel uneasy about it.

Depending on when D&D expect Winds to be done - since they probably know better than anyone other than Martin himself and his editors - this season will give us a good glimpse on the future of the series.

Certain scenes will be basically be Winds spoilers, other scenes or stuff completely cut will be grim portents on what's truly going to be important down the road. Either they're trimming the fat and skipping arcs that won't be necessary to the overall ending OR they're just doing their own thing since they know the books won't meet the production pipeline. Remember, they're probably in the process of prewriting season 6, at the very least.

Greyjoy brothers better be in this. I can deal with no fAegon, but not them being cut. They've been important enough for Martin to focus on them, especially noting their involvement in the Battle of Meereen.

Penny being cut is in the show's favour imo. Show - 1, Books - 586!

Seriously though, excited for this season and finally being able to experience GoT from more of a TV show perspective. I'd recommend others do the same, it'll probably help reduce the high sodium levels. :)

Aegon being cut most likely means they are going to diverge heavily from the books for the remainder of the show.

No, it will only increase the sodium levels. Especially if they spoil things from the upcoming books.

I'm starting to feel really conflicted on whether I should keep watching or not. I wish they would just fully divert and admit as much. If they stick with whatever general plan GRRM told them then it would suck to get the general end of the series spoiled, even if the way they get there is different.

It could also means that Aegon and Victarion are mostly irrelevant to the climax of the story and that's how they can cut them so easily.

Word. I really hope HBO does their own thing. That's more interesting to me as a viewer and a lot more reassuring as a reader. Plus if GRRM fucks up we can at least have a decent ending in the show, or vice versa.

Like last season, I'm going to wait for impressions after every episode. If there's a small spoiler, I'll probably watch depending on how big of a deal it is (like the scene with the ice demon and baby) but if they start spoiling big things, I'll bow out until TWOW releases.

Not watching the show will be easy - avoiding spoilers on entertainment sites/twitter/random drive bys on GAF will be the hard part.

It's an inevitability that I'm going to get spoiled because of the show watchers so I may as well watch it and see how it all plays out first hand. i don't mind watching the broad strokes play out on the show, I'll still be anticipating the books for further depth and resolution for the storylines that aren't in the show.

I'm going to forget everything I read last year in books 4 and 5. Hell, I've forgotten most of it already. Can't wait to go into this feeling a little fresh. Books 1-3 stuck with me throughout, even with the changes they made.

Eh it seems like Feast and Dance are going to be heavily changed anyways so you'd be going in fresh regardless.

No, he was too busy with TWOW and AWOIAF. Or at least that was the official explanation. I sort of wonder if he just didn't want to do it since the show was straying so far from his original story.
Its his own fault, but has he said anything about the heavy deviations coming? He can't be any more thrilled than book readers are. I wonder if he'll reveal what developments are original to the show and are not spoilers for WoW.

I'm hoping that in the end they will be incredibly few. (just Sansa)

Considering he's stated that he wish he had time to write more than one script a year, I'd assume he just doesn't have the time.

Finally got around to watching the trailer in HQ and look at the photos released. Looks great, can't wait for the season to start. Facebook's "HD" though lol come on

cutting Aegon, I'm okay with... Cutting Victarion and Euron would be really disappointing to me though. Aegon and Jon Connington felt like farce for Tyrion until he got to Dany.

Define "important" though. I mean, Penny (for instance) is an important character - maybe she doesn't factor into the series' endgame - but her interactions with Tyrion are very meaningful.

I don't like the idea of labeling someone as irrelevant just because they may not factor into the series' climax.

They've already changed the characters enough to the point where they won't have to introduce characters that affect their development in the books. Tyrion the Paladin won't be seething in hatred as much as book Tyrion so it won't need to be tempered by the likes of Penny. As far as Jaime the Rapist is concerned, his whole adventure in Dorne might fastrack another storyline which
is the Aegon introduction where Trystane is the true heir to the Iron Throne.

S4 turned me off majorly, but I guess hype is building a bit after the trailer. Indira Varma returning to run things down south is welcome, being the goddess that she is.

Is 1.08 Jaime against a SS? Looked like Theon at first.

It seems to me that Victarion and Euron only exist to force Daenerys to go to Westeros, I imagine the show is cutting that.

I'm going to enjoy the spoiler dropping a-holes getting some potential comeuppance. Penny isn't really needed in the show considering they gutted the reason for Tyrion being in that state for her to help pull him out.

No Aegon and Jon Connington or Euron and Victarion, meh. Daario already got Dany the ships anyway.

The Greyjoy invasion of Westeros is something tho. I'm not super attached to either character. Euron is a little over the top and cartoony and I never got the love for Vic, but still, we need more than Asha and Balon if the Iron Borne are gonna have any importance in the plot moving forward.

Did they cast Arys Oakheart or are they skipping his story entirely? His death is one of the moments I wanted to see on tv when I read it.

I think we are going to get Lady Stoneheart but
it is Sansa

Gives her stuff to do. Hopefully she meets Blackfish too.

I don't get where this Stoneheart Sansa theory is coming from. Is there any indication at all that they're planning on killing her off? How would it even work, she has no red priests nearby. And while I could possibly see it fitting with Arya's personality, I don't see such a scenario being in line with Santa's personality.

Is it all based on the rumour about a controversial Sansa scen? But going from 'there will be a controversial Sansa scene' to 'Sansa will start killing all Freys she gets her hands on, possibly while undead' seems like a giant jump to conclusions, about as intelligent as going from 'Bran will not be in season 5' to 'omg, Bran will be killed off off-screen in between seasons'

No big battles this season then?

With Aegon out

Not exactly like Stonehart. But that Sansa will in effect start taking revenge for the Red Wedding by using her position at the Vale and next to Littlefinger to eradicate the Freys.

So, not the same story. Just Sansa causing the deaths of Freys and all that. Otherwise Sansa's story has reached the book point.

What does Aegon have to do with battles? The books don't even show him in battle.

B&B would show it. We know he captures some areas. Always wanted to see that this season. Just that if Aegon is out we probably won't see anything about the war, the next phase starting. The book talks about Aegon/Connington planning to capture Storm's End soon which would be big.

May we see Golden Company still, cutting out the Aegon plot means they can just directly join up with Daenerys?

Yeah I was wondering about The Golden Company. They were mentioned twice or so last season, so they must come into play later. It would be strange for them to just join up with Dany considering their history.

Also cutting out Aegon kind of makes the Illyrio/Varys conspiracy make no sense in the show. In the books it's kind of implied that they pushed Viseyrs towards Westeros with the Dothraki army because when he got over there, he would cause so much havoc that it would be easy for Aegon to just come in and be seen as a savior. What was the point of teaming up Viserys with the dothrakis without Aegon? Are we supposed to believe they really wanted Viserys on the throne, or could somehow predict Dany would be a better leader? I know the whole Blackfyre thing is kind of dropped in your laps in the book and maybe the producers thought it would be some weird random plotpoint in the show, but I don't understand what was Illyrio/Varys' initial plan.
