Man, I really hope Mance gets some good scenes this season. He's so underdeveloped on the show. I want to at least get his story about why he abandoned the Night's Watch that they left out of season 3. Trailer makes it look like he's getting burned in the first few episodes, though. :(

Also, people pointing to things like "zombie riding and elk" and "lava arm" need to realize that those are the exact things the show runners are avoiding. Like it or not, they're toning down the fantasy elements, and that's not going to change. If a scene or character has nothing to merit it other than being "badass" or "cool", then it's probably first on the list of things they're cutting.
Why? We already got animated skeletons and fireballs beyond the wall. The arm thing is not half as outlandish as what we've seen the Red God already do.

Fireballs were apparently added by the director during filming, and not in the original script. Plus, their aversion to the super natural seems to be suspended to some degree for Bran and Melisandre, since they kind of require it.

I'm happy that they pretty much nailed Oberyn even when writing original material which is much more than you can say about most other characters.

I saw him in the trailer he's in the part where she's walking down the stairs with her entourage of Unsullied. He's on her right.

Anyone else finally accept the fact that we'll find out the ending from the show?

The books won't be done until nearly 2020. Seriously no way Spring comes out in less than 4 years.

I've just realized I have to accept it and if rumors are true and GRRM might expand the books by another volume, it will be interesting to get the TRUE ending in a decade.

The show's ending will be so dilapidated that I wouldn't worry about being "spoiled".

Even if they don't change the big event that ends everything, multiple plot lines that we've been following in the books for years won't even have been mentioned in the show at that point.

It'll pretty much be fan-fiction.

it's hard to believe some haven't realized that by now.

Anyone see it in IMAX? Was it worth it?

I see that there's two days left. I wonder if there's any chance they'll do it again before April. This week isn't the best time for me having just paid rent.

It was absolutely worth it. I was kind of flabbergasted at how well it all held up on the big screen. The fidelity of the image was frankly astounding. It looked perfect. They must master the show and effects at 4K or something, it all just looked amazing. Even the visual effects. Seeing it on the big screen just shows how much it rivals actual blockbuster film work. The sound was great too.

It's probably spoiled me for regular viewing of the show now.

Given by next season it will be all "original" material (vaguely following the outline GRRM has for his books, which is only the outline, not the final book material) and they have cut out or diverged from so many areas already, I don't think the ending of the series and the books will really look anything alike beyond the extremely broad events (as in, "this family is doing well", "this country is wrecked" type broadness).

I mean would it really ruin the books' endings to know a plot point as broad and vague as "the White Walkers don't win"?

That's a good way of saying it. I'm sure George didn't give them DETAILS, since he himself doesn't plan that far ahead.

I'm thinking it's going to be like Scott Pilgrim where the last 15 minutes is completely different but getting to the same point as the books (since book 6) wasn't ready before the movie.

That said, it will be the show that will tell us who lives or dies of the major characters. That part will hurt, but then again it's almost impossible for me not to get spoiled by people that even were there books out first, someone would have spoiled all the deaths.

Should've been accepted about two years ago TBH, maybe even when the show started and ADWD came out. Won't bother me much though, I saw season two and three before I read ACoK and ASoS and there was enough changes to keep it interesting to read, especially ACoK. Sure I missed out on the book shock of the Red Wedding though it was clearly built up but I probably wouldn't have noticed it on first read if it wasn't for the show but it still kept me interested the further the show gets from the books the better IMO in keeping it interesting to read.

Then why have Beric? How is Moqorro healing and enhancing an arm too much now?

Eh. If they're going to touch Blackfyre, it's probably going to be during S6 while explaining Brynden's origins.

with aegon out of the picture, I do not see why they would mention them at all. they might just as well make brynden a targaryen as well.

Ciaran Hinds was barely used in the first place.
Considering how much the writers love King's Landing's characters, I'd say it's safe to say the High Sparrow will have a bigger role on screen compared to Mance.

There is a large investment in the Kings Landing sets and many main characters are based there plus it gives a grounding for the series called a Game of Thrones.

Cersei is the only main character left in Kings Landing and with Tywin, Tyrion, Jamie, Bronn, Sansa, Joffrey, Podrick, Brienne, Oberyn, Elaria, Shae and Varys all departing the capital in the last season she will need people to interact with.

Tommen and the Tyrells are the only remaining cast so that will need massively fleshed out with other characters to hold the narrative together. Expect plenty of Margaery in this season.

I think ya'll overstate this too much. The show's ending will answer most of the major questions, just without all the details. We'll know who sits on the iron throne. We'll know which of the major characters live or die. We'll know what happens with the White Walkers. None of that will be fan-fiction because D&D already know all the major ending details.

They know what they're doing. As the popularity of the show increases, the incentive to post bad rumors also increases. See also: TWoW publishing non-news, Kit Harrington trims his hair slightly, etc...

Gotta get those clickzzz, I guess. Not how I liked to run things back in the day though.

Noooo, come back! We avoided mentioning that Stoneheart BS for a reason.

It brings back memories of the pre-pilot days when someone edited IMDb to say that Holly Marie Combs was going to be Catelyn and we ignored it. But then everyone was all like "why aren't you posting that Holly Marie Combs was cast as Catelyn?!" and I had to make a post explaining to people how IMDb works.

I like all the "spoiler warnings" in the article when they spoil it in the URL.

First of all, IMDB can and has been wrong in the past. It’s not a free-wheeling Wikipedia where anyone can make changes, but it’s not an unimpeachable source either.

Uhh, yes... Yes it is, except maybe you have to register before editing.

We were retroactively forced to make a post just there anyway. This is just embarrassing.
