So, 3AM viewings every Monday morning for 10 weeks? Sounds like a great idea!

Not that I didn't find dodgy streams last year, so no real change I guess.

Ugh I hate when news updates are staggered like this. Cool pics and videos though.

EW seems particularly bad with this sort of thing. Does anyone know when their magazines typically hit the shelves so someone can just buy the thing and get all the details out there? Arya looks a little weird on the cover, like she's way overly photoshopped, but she looks really cool in the full shot of her in costume.

Also, that Dany cover is testing my Team Stannis allegiance.

Fuck yes, Maisie finally gets her due!

also,
how much you want to bet the dragon and Tyrion scene happens at the end of episode 1...I'm thinking that's screaming epic ending to an episode.

I think they typically come towards the end of the week. Thursday/Friday.

Nope. We've seen Tyrion rolling out of his box in the first trailer, after it has been unloaded onto dry land. The shot of Tyrion looking at the sky here is clearly on a moving boat/barge, and he's obviously not still in his box.

There's no way he gets off the ship, talks with Varys, walks around and hops on another ship/boat all in one episode.

I'm thinking he glimpses Drogon as he and Jorah make their way through the show's version of the Sorrows.

Yeah, I was initially really baffled when it came out they were doing the Sorrows, since it's such a one-off thing. The Stone Men will never be important again. I figured they were just so hungry for action sequences that they were ready to take anything. I think it's maybe being redone as an extended encounter with Drogon though. That would be just as action packed and fantastical, and getting wrecked on the river by a dragon makes for a good replacement for the storm that wrecks them at sea and leads to their capture by slavers.

Wait, 170 countries and the UK and Ireland aren't included?

If it's any consolation, I'll probably end up watching it close to Irish time when the stream quality on HBOGo finally gets up above 240p.

Wait, really? The season 4 premiere actually broadcasted a few minutes before the American one last year. It was just the first episode but I thought Sky Atlantic had this shit down.

Yeah. Apparently "HBO don't have a base in the UK", whatever that means. It's really weird, Sky Atlantic always made a big deal about having the rights to GoT, and then... this.

Hmm, you think? It seems very elaborate. I was thinking the scene will just be to demonstrate the otherworldliness of Essos from Tyrion's perspective. Like, they're rowing between these foggy, desolate, ruined embankments, and it's really eerie, when all of a sudden, a dragon soars overhead. It could be a great wake-up call for Tyrion as he realises just how safe he really was back in Westeros, and a nice set-up for being sold into slavery etc.

Yeah I don't really see the Sorrows has an action sequence in the show. Probably a few scenes for an episode where they are floating along in the boat. Some world building for Essos as a transition before their next location.

I don't think they want to introduce anything otherworldly that isn't plot-critical. On the whole, they seem to have tried to make their Essos much more grounded, with the exception of the weirdness of Qarth, and Qarth didn't seem to go over particularly well with critics. And I think establishing the threat of the dragons is something they're happy to spend their crazy budget on, even if it means a complex scene. Plus, river-zombies would seem to trigger D&D's hypersensitive detector for things that may confuse viewers. Don't introduce a second class of zombie that'll have inattentive viewers asking "wait, are the White Walkers in a river in Essos now, too?"

Edit: sorry, misread your post. Thought it was still about the Stone Men. A non-action scene is possible. I just thought I remembered the article with the original pics of the Sorrows set including interviews with crew who were hyping it up as some big action and effects scene. I may be misremembering that though.

I'm just happy we'll get a bit of his boat journey. I love little relaxing travel sequences with occasional moments of excitement in books and I loved the boat trip. Tyrion flirting with the Septa will be missed, though.

As for the whole "characters who are still alive in the books are going to die this season" thing, outside of minor support characters (i.e. members of the Night's Watch or members of Dany's entourage) I don't expect that that's necessarily going to be about *deviation* from the books so much as it's going to be about plotlines surging ahead of where the books are.

I am now pretty much cemented in expecting some serious bloodletting at and around Winterfell. But I don't expect Cleganebowl or the full Battle of Meereen until next season.

I was remembering how Emma Maguire was cast as "Winterfell worker" this season

I bring this up because she bares a slight resemblance to none other than ...

I think this girl will be fArya tbh

maybe sansa will be there shortly before the boltons? to create another moment where starks closely missed each other.

So how many non-book reader's will scream, "They ruined Arya!" when they see her on the EW cover? I already have a friend who fears they will doll her up and make her more "lady like" and she won't be a badass anymore.

I am quite sure that she's the Volantene female politician, the one that explains Tyrion how the triarch system works, how she got to be adored by slaves and other members of the Volantis underclass, and why she's interesting in Daenerys paying a visit to her city. Very cool character, glad to see her there :)

Holy shit, I've only now seen the tattoos on the slaves' faces. So this is in Volantis. Hmm.

What? The Boltons are already there. They only had a kilometre or so to go at the end of Season 4.

Dude, Littlefinger's teleporter. That last kilometer may as well be an ocean when you're racing a man not bound by time and space. The Boltons will ride up and be in sight of the gate, when suddenly Baelish's entourage will erupt from the earth in front of them, ride through the gate, and boldly announce "finders keepers" as they crown Sansa in the premier.

Yep, also, it's not as good of evidence as the tattoos, but the people in the back are wearing a style we haven't seen before, and it's in a very similar blue-gray color to what Talisa always wore. I think there are probably elements of Benerro and his preaching to the slaves about Dany in whoever the female character there is.

Are you serious? I was going to write basically this whole paragraph in my original comment but decided against it because it was early and I was tired. Lol.

Good points. I'm trying to figure out where and when this could have been filmed. I'm pretty sure we never saw any pictures of extras dressed like the slaves or people in the background here.

My day just started, so I'm happy to take the lame joke writing duties off your weary hands.

And yeah, I think there were pretty much no leaks from Volantis filming. Maybe they built the set for the Long Bridge in a studio somewhere because they needed to build all the little ramshackle shops? We also have that shot of Tyrion and Varys walking through the market with dudes waving snakes around and stuff, which I'm guessing is part of this same sequence.

They filmed at Cordoba's Puente Romano, in Southern Spain. With a couple of special FX they turned this solid Roman geat of engineering:

Into the humongous and burstling long bridge of Volantis, built by the Valyrian empire centuries ago :)

I imagine a few probably will but I'm sure Maisie is thrilled to not only be wearing something else but also not have to be wearing "dirty make-up" all the time while shooting.

Some scans are up of the EW GoT edition. In the scans they talk about how they are omitting one whole major arc(iron islands) but they don't mention omitting the other major arc, fAegon. Also they talk about how Ramsay has another play toy now instead of Reek. Gives me more hope for fArya.

Yeah certainly seems like that's where there headed.

Also I am so happy that the show has fleshed out Olenna and Margery compared to their book counter parts. In book 4 Cersei was really the important character left in KL until the High Sparrow shows up I'm glad that's not so much the same case with the show.
