One of the first demos I played on my Vita was Shinobido 2... I liked it in a 'janky' sort of way. I bought it in a sale a year or two ago... finally got around to playing it this week. I'm still early on, but what a fun game. Janky and imperfect, sure, but.... fun. It's basically a stealth mission generator [kill all / escort / save/ assassinate / find / transport / etc] with different goals and limitations. You pick from random missions, then every once in awhile do a story mission.

I started playing it expecting to just delete it and make space, and instead, am having an absolute blast and am putting aside recent purchases.

I love finding games like this that surprise me.

I can't remember if I actually reviewed it or just played it as part of our covering the Vita's launch, but I really liked it. I have a soft spot for those kinda janky Japanese-developed ninja games. They never play quite right and you can find plenty of things to complain about, but they're also a lot of fun despite (and possibly due to) that.

If only Red Ninja had fit into that category. *sigh*

Yep, like 3 minutes after it opened on the EU store. My hype is getting dangerously close to Trillion levels.

I'm just glad that CH decided to support this past launch and fix it's more glaring issues, unlike Trillion. It's seriously a buzzkill to be looking forward to a game and enjoying it once it comes out, just to find out that it has very common gamebreaking issues that were never fixed through patch support.

Question about Mary Skelter Limited Edition. "This product is available for pre-order only". Does this message mean the store will only have enough stock to fill preorders? It gives me the impression that whatever number of preorders were made before launch will be it. There won't be any additional stock post launch. Am I wrong?

Nah IFI goes until they sell out, they don't just make enough to fill preorders (unless ofcourse they actually sell out of all their stock within the preorder period). I wouldn't worry "too" much about whether or not you'll be able to get this one after launch, as their last few non Neptunia LEs (Neptunia goes within days) are still up months later. Then again this game actually has some quality to it, unlike several of the other games they still have LEs for (Dark Rose and MeiQ).

I always bring this up on reddit when people ask for under-appreciated Vita games. It does get repetitive towards the end, but it doesn't overstay its welcome (about 6 hours iirc) and is ridiculously silly fun during that time.

What issues did Trillion have? Other than how gamebreakingly easy you can make if you spend the right skill points, I can't remember anything in particular during my playthrough.

VA-11 Hall-A is November in Japan. So can't be too far off then in the west too:

http://gematsu.com/2017/08/va-11-hall-ps-vita-launches-november-16-japan

Speaking of November, NISA in their infinite wisdom are launching both Demon Gaze 2 and Tokyo Tattoo Girls on the same date in November. Way to bury TTG:

http://gematsu.com/2017/08/demon-gaze-ii-launches-november-14-north-america-november-17-europe

http://gematsu.com/2017/08/tokyo-tattoo-girls-launches-november-14-north-america-november-17-europe

And the Damascus Gear sequel that launched in Japan earlier this year is coming to PS4 & PC and getting updated on Vita to include the additional content:

http://gematsu.com/2017/08/damascus-gear-saikyo-exodus-hd-edition-announced-ps4-pc

I'd love to say "and it'll probably be coming west on Vita too" but given ASW skipped Neo Atlas in the west, I don't think it's too likely (probably PS4/PC only).

Speaking of Tokyo Tattoo Girls, I found this on the Steam forums/Gematsu:

I bought this game on Vita, and the game has no gameplay. I repeat it has no gameplay. The 1-minute trailer actually shows all the gameplay there is.

On the strategy map, you have some territories which spread and contest neighboring territories until you conquer all of them. This is done automatically and all you do is to manage an honor bar and try to make it not reach zero.

The tattooing is a just an upgrade shop, you cannot see the tattoos in anywhere except that one screen. Each territory has a boss tattooed girl, and you "fight" her when you conquer her territory. There is no fight, you always win after a hilariously poorly made cut-scene, and the only thing you get to do is to choose between 3 dialog choices. If you choose the best one, you unlock a CG for that boss.

This game has about as much content as a $2 mobile game. It may work as a snack-game on Vita but there is no point in getting it on a PC. Oh and while it is fully voiced, the ecchi is very mild. You won't be getting a boner off it.

It had serious crashing issues, particularly on the 3rd form. My last 2 playthroughs ended due to it taking half a dozen attempts to kill Trillion because it kept crashing, I also got several crashes on the menu after a Mokujin fight and had to redo that several times as well. The OT had quite a few people complaining about that issue as well.

Speaking of Tokyo Tattoo Girls, I found this on the Steam forums/Gematsu:

I seriously don't understand why NISA picked it up. I mean I sorta can, because the developer had clearly already started translating the game and NIS just stepped it to actually publish it, but still. I thought we were long removed from the company who used to publish questionable crap back in the 6th gen.

At least it's sandwiched between a lot of other, better games that hopefully Vita fans will buy to prove that we still love their Vita stuff, just not crap like this.

I've thrown it on the "i'll never get this no matter the price" pile with stuff like FIFA anyway. I may be a mega Vita fan, but there's some stuff I just have no interest in.

Oh wow. I played through to two endings and didn't encounter any of those issues. That's a mighty shame, thanks for the heads up (especially since I'll be going back for all endings eventually).

No gameplay videos, same day as DG2 - it's quite telling :p. I'm sure it was cheap for NISA to publish the game, but still...

tfw no physical for The Longest Five Minutes but this gets a physical.... no wonder if was LE only in europe, it's trash and we're being taken advantage of

edit: i have a feeling Aksys games will be a lot easier to get in the future, Shopto added stock of both Nonary Games and Zero Time Dilemma for the PS4, what's odd tho is they're listed under RSG

Well, at least there is gameplay of Demon Gaze out there; plus the assumption that it's going to be similar to the first game. With TTG there's like literally nothing. Did it even get a physical release in Japan?

I am wondering why they're being so silent on DG2 though, especially since they're going to the effort of porting it to PS4.

I think it did, but it bombed. There's still some time until November; hopefully NISA will market the game better.

Random thought - I remember there being a comment with some translator late last year (can't remember who) that said PQube were doing some "interesting things" on Vita last year. Then in January we had that retailer listing that had Yu-No; Chaos;Child and Punchline.

It's now August and all we've had announced is Chaos;Child. Do y'all still think we'll be getting all the other stuff?

Aside from that, all we've had from PQube outside of this is Akiba's Beat European distribution; Rabi-Ribi European distribution and upcoming UNIELST (again, European distribution). Not exactly the most shocking selections. I have to wonder if some projects fell through or something.

Well, keep in mind those retailer listings are all 5pb. titles, so I assume there's some kind of pipeline where Chaos;Child is at the front. C;C didn't get announced until just a few months ago, so who knows.

I was really hoping they'd picked up Uppers, since they did Valyrie Drive. Seems unlikely at this point

Look how long it took them to properly announce C;C. They've been teasing it for years. Yu-No also has a ps4 version so it's definitely coming.

Fair point. Although that's a bummer. I'm most worried about Yu-NO, feels like quite a gamble.

Let's hope so! I know PQube release most of their stuff at the end of the year, but still, it feels like it's getting on a bit.

Uppers seems most likely from LRG at this point, oddly.

I do have hopes that PQube could snag Net High after the nice turnout from Steiner's interest poll. There were a solid thousand votes from people who said they'd buy the Vita version if it was localized.

They should have just given us Hero Must Die, Kai-ri-sei Million Arthur, or Twin Star Exorcist if that's the case. Perhaps even something fans could actively vote for in a poll. I didn't see myself getting it, but I'll check out gameplay though.

it is gamescom week and i think it was geraint that said all of his team had gone there and he was all alone (lol) and they were teasing gungunpixies a while ago

While I agree I'd rather have any of those games instead, I don't think the work required for those vs. TTG is comparable at all

Is Odin Sphere ever going to get a reprint? I DO NOT want to pay scalpers.

I completely agree, my post was just me being a bit unreasonable and irritated is all.

Well, apparently Gamestop got a massive restock just yesterday:

https://www.reddit.com/r/vita/comments/6vili0/psa_odin_sphere_heavily_restocked_at_gamestop/

And in related news, Atlus have FINALLY made a European publishing arm:

http://gematsu.com/2017/08/atlus-establishes-european-publishing-division

They've managed to skip just about all of Vita's lifespan but... maybe just in time for P3D/P5D?

A European publishing arm based in Sega's cupboard offices that consists of one person and aims to hire two more "in due course"? I'll contain my excitement for the time being.
(And cross my fingers that it won't fuck up the almost-passable arrangement they have with Deep Silver that sort of works, albeit with stocking issues. I want Etrian V damn it).

Ships to U.S. Addresses only. I'll keep looking. I'll get it eventually, maybe VGP will have its own restock. It's happened before.

I have a US launch Vita and 64GB card. Lately I've been having a lot of errors with digital games, most recently with Darkest Dungeon but there have been plenty of others. Is there any way to determine if the issues are with my system or memory card? I know if the problem is the memory card I'll need to reformat but I don't want to lose all of my saves if the problem is actually with the system itself.

Canada. I've seen cheap European copies before, but I'm looking for the North American version.

Try EB. They don't have many of their games on the site and most keep the games behind counters, so a lot of games get overlooked ocassionally. Just head to one and ask if any stores in the area have a copy. You might get lucky.

Have you fully powered down the Vita and restarted it? Most crashing issues I get from digital games are either fixed a small amount of the time by just re-downloading the game but a majority of the time by rebooting the system; keeping the Vita constantly in sleep mode I guess might cause some memory issues after a while.

This gives me much more faith that we'll get Romancing SaGa 2 & 3 in the west now. Wow, didn't even have to beg for this one like we did with Adventures of Mana.

Weird situation. Vita games from Bandai-Namco and Square-Enix confirmed in the west for 2018. And nothing coming from XSEED. Who released PSP games in 2015.

OT: Factotum 90 is out this week:

I'm saying this every year but seriously, 2018 is shaping up to be a great year for Vita:

Digimon CS Hackers Memory
Secret of Mana
The Lost Child
Tokyo Clanpool
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Persona 3/5 Moon/Star Dancing
A Certain Magical Virtual-On
Penny Punching Princess
Bunch of Aksys Otomes

And games with low chances of localization:

Gintama
Itadaki Street

I'm actually beginning to wonder whether we'll get some PSX announcements from Gio this year too. I'd written 2016 off as the last year but... it's looking promising, especially since Samurai Shodown V Special is coming.

It's just, he's got no more LucasArts games left to do haha. They've grabbed all the ones Tim Schafer was involved in.
