Upcoming Vita Games (~200+ Upcoming games in ENGLISH) || 2017 Edition ||

It doesn't bode well for Ys VIII either, sadly.

So happy to admit I was very, very wrong about this. NISA stepping in to save the day.

For anyone who missed it (and if Fady wants to update the OP!), this was the Vita news from the NISA press conference.

New announcements:

- Ys VIII, physical/digital
- Tokyo Tattoo Girls, digital and possibly physical according to Atlus' website
- Touhou Kobuto V, digital-only

Release dates:

- Operation Abyss; Cladun in June; DanganRonpa in September.

It's Babel! And in May.

In other news there'll be an 8 hour trial for SoSC Revisited.

I blame that on not having slept because I'd stayed up to watch the conference when I typed that post, lol :p

As I just said in the other thread, looking back, I think I would've been severely disappointed if they didn't have Ys. Touhou is just... ehh. Tattoo Girls is a weird choice. But Ys is amazing, and helps prop a lineup of a number of tentpole releases throughout the year (Toukiden 2 early on; Tokyo Xanadu in summer; DanganRonpa V3 in September; Ys VIII likely later on)

What the hell is Tokyo Tattoo Girls. I've been checking Gematsu everyday for a long time now but I never came across with such game. Why did they even choose this over their own franchises? Lewdness? Does this game even have lewd?

It was mentioned briefly in last year's thread but it was going by a different name then. And I assume they picked it because it was cheap.

That seems really off considering Cladun is DD only. They're both niche as hell, but this goes even beyond Cladun.

I still don't even really know wtf this game even is. It's so niche it doesn't even have Japanese gameplay videos on youtube.

That's because NISA has settled that if it's not a big game, a PS4 print will take precedence over a Vita print.

Before anybody get excited, here are the Famitsu scores of newly announced games:

Touhou Kobuto V - 6/6/6/6 - 24/40
Tattoo Nation - 7/6/6/6 - 25/40

In comparison:

Coven and the Labyrinth of Refrain - 8/8/9/7 - 32/40
Princess is Money Hungry - 7/8/8/7 - 30/40

Why, NISA, why...

That's because NISA is probably busy porting the latter two to PC and PS4.

Actually real reason is, the developers of the both titles specifically wanted them to be released overseas. I remember Tattoo Nation's developer mentioning that he was planning a localized release of his game sometime in the future. He might have asked NISA to make it happen.

Nevertheless, Tattoo Nation looks like a crappy Kancolle wannabe.

why not both

And Cladun is DD-only, just because they decided to port the game to the PS4. Can I switch and get physical Cladun, NISA?

It's such a bizarre situation, but definitely fits with Ani's logic that Steam/Vita will have physical releases going forward but when PS4 is thrown in the mix, Vita won't get physical (except for Ys & DanganRonpa, which fall in the "much bigger franchises" category).

I wonder what this'll mean for Coven and other stuff that I assume is also being ported to PS4.

I wonder, if NIS intends to make a franchise out of Coven and port it to ps4, if they'll make an enhanced port kinda like they did with D3 & D4 for Vita. Or it could just be a barebones port too.

Yeah, I suspect you're probably onto something with that, it showed legs in Japan and is clearly something they can make into a franchise.

I'd hope they'd still take a gamble on physical Vita in the west due to the in-built gridder audience (that they've pretty much built single-handled with their Exp Inc. partnership) but we'll have to see.

I don't see the bit about 2 unannounced translation projects and whether they're for Vita?

His little resume thing linked from his Twitter profile lists two unannounced projects, but there's no info on whether they're for Vita.

I do have to wonder, though, if 5pb will be continuing the trend they started with Steins;Gate 0 and (presumably) Chaos;Child where they hire (edit: contract?) translators directly, and use PQube primarily for publishing.

Maybe Steiner is working on more Marvelous projects, or something else entirely.

Great year for the vita's jrpg fans I mean we are in February and I already have quite a list of what I need to buy:

Ys viii
Atelier Firis
God wars
Summon night 6
Utawarerumono
Akiba's beat
Ys origin
Toukiden 2

It's certainly interesting that we're getting a number of different types of JRPG's from hunting games to gridders to SPRG's to action RPG's to great turn-based stuff.

I didn't realise 5pb were doing that. Makes me wonder if NISA are doing something similar with Tokyo Tattoo Girls, since the devs of that already stated they were interested in an English version.

I hope Steiner is working on something good. He did Valkyrie Drive in addition to Steins;Gate, right? So there's a high likelihood it's another Pqube project.

(And hopefully it's Uppers)

Coming off that NISA coference, I'm excited for YS VIII, The Silver Case, and Operation Babel. In addition to that I'll definitely get Demon Gaze 2, Caligula and Stranger of Sword City Revisited.

Ugh, I'm gonna need a new memory card.

Wait, Silver Case is coming to Vita?!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I didn't want to create a new topic about it.

I'm looking into buying a Vita. What's the best route I should go in doing this? Should I just get the stock Wi-Fi unit for $199? Do Vitas ever go on sale? Maybe I should get a cool Japanese Vita instead? Are those region free and can I get English menus?

I'd go wi-fi only. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's all you can get now unless you locate a used 3g one.

They are region-free, but the Circle and Cross buttons will be reversed in function if you get a Japanese (all Asia? Not sure) one. e.g. Circle to select, Cross to cancel. This only applies to the OS and pre-installed apps. Games will work as usual.

Not sure about language.
