more frustrating is that the vita died so that ps vr could live, but by all accounts it's another device that's going to be barely supported beyond a handful of games and it won't have the same reach the vita might - although at the very least it could be a good foot in the door if/when vr blows up.

The problem with PSVR is that even if it was a 15 million unit selling first year sensation, it's still part of the PS4 ecosystem. It's not an individual platform. It is an accessory. No sane publisher is going to devote sizeable sums of money into VR projects when that's just competing with their other games on the same self that can sell to all xx million of PS4 owners. It's not like a handheld where it's a separate market entirely.

SIEA was the worst with Vita. Awful bundles and a complete abandonment of advertising after holiday 2012. Yes, that's right, they ditched all traditional advertising for the platform less than a year into its life.

I cannot believe that we never got a Minecraft bundle in the West. That was the most braindead thing they could have done for the platform, but no, not even that.

But Sony told me that the Vita was a PS4 accessory! My life is a lie.

Not sure anyone is interested in this stuff anymore, but Vita has been out of stock in UK for a while, at least since early December.

Majority of retailers still don't have any stock, but Shopto oddly got a new shipment in, and are selling the console for £190.

Wasn't expecting that.

Same in Australia really, the Vita sold out in department stores long ago (maybe a couple of years) and EB Games doesn't have any 'new' ones anymore, just preowned. Where I live now in Malaysia, it seems to still be doing ok, the specialist shops here get all region of games R1, R2, R3 as they designate it. The 'rich' folk here are really rich i suppose and can afford these types of things, maybe that's how the Vita has survived here.

Hopefully no-one minds me sharing it here, I wrote an article reviewing the last 5 years of Vita support, quite enjoyed writing it:

https://kresnik258gaming.wordpress....ta-games-playstation-vita-a-five-year-review/

Been meaning to say this was a nice article. I hope you can expand on each year into more in depth articles at some point.

Also wanted to say I liked the Top 50 Vita games, glad to see Steins;Gate No. 2! Though I can't say I feel the same way for Danganronpa. :)

Guys yesterday my gpd win arrived! Yeah!

I know this is a vita thread but i thought that could interest someone the opinion of a vita lover like me.

Premise, i just played it for few minutes and i didn't do any optimization.

First the cons:
-all the gamepad buttons are meh(the Y on the Y button is even a little rotated lol) but i adapted fast
-it becomes sligtly warm(with the fan off)
-it's a pc, even if starting a game is as easy as double cliking on a link on the desktop, it doesn't feel as a console, also i don't know if there's a sleep function as good as on vita.
-there's the need for some adjustments(for example setting a bigger font dimension)
-maybe it's a slightly heavier than my oled vita.

now the pros:
-the keyboard is really good
-the screen is really really good
-I don't know if before or after putting the screen luminosity at 0(still very visible, i have always played with the same setting on vita) and the fan off, but when i put the pointer on the battery icon(i wasn't playing obviously) it said 13 hours!!!!!!!!!! I need to see this again.
-it's a real pc, so you can run emulators, programs and so on
-I have only played a top down shooter called Renegade Ops that honestly i didn't even know but i got for free and it already felt like a next gen, it runs perfectly and on that screen it's really gorgeous! Now imagine this on a 5.5 inches 720p screen(the screenshot isn't mine)

I can't wait to try more games! :D

EDIT:
in comparison these are helldivers and dead nation on vita

I bought a Vita about a week ago and I'm enjoying the hell out of the thing. I used to have one when it came out and was looking forward to getting some stuff for it from GameStop just to have an employee tell me they're discontinuing everything Vita on the stores.

I seriously can't almost believe Sony let this one go to shit. Had it for a couple of years, was a year off and came back and I still can't even finish what I got in my library from back then. To many good games.

Is going mostly digital on this thing a good idea or should I stock up on physical? I thought we could save the games on PC or ps3 or something like that.

Welcome! i recommend to buy any memory card that is not a 4gb or 8gb card and o buy physical games for heavy sized games . if you dont care abut physical games you can buy 99% of the catalogue by psn.

Sounds like iT's not coming. Which is kind of weird, PEGI almost never makes mistakes and if it does, it's basically applicant's fault. And it costs money.

Reply #2 to that tweet says:

I think we might do Vita in the future, but it's definitely not coming in the near near future[/QUOTE

So sounds like a preemptive "why not?" rating.

Cosmic Star Heroine is out in April.

Interesting article interviewing devs about Vita at GDC. By all accounts it sounds like Steamworld Dig 2 is coming to the platform but they just can't confirm it yet.

Yeah, I plan to do a year-by-year breakdown at some point, but my next set of articles are going to be looking at individual publishers and how they've supported Vita. Thanks for the feedback on this one!

Also, cheers for reading my top 50 ramblings! But DanganRonpa is the MVP ;)

All good news. I just love indies on Vita!

So vita version cancelled later.

*table flip* That better not be how this goes down. So tired of all these other KS titles that, after hitting the Vita stretch goal, never release on the system.

Additional note: new Fire Pro Wrestling announced. Steam and PS4. Who do we beg at Spike Chunsoft for a Vita version :)

So Fire Pro is not for Vita. And not for Switch either. My dreams of portable only future is slowly dying and I'm really sad about it.

Everything is coming to PS4 and I'm trying to find a way to play them as my time at home is ridiculously limited. I think to myself sometimes "who the hell are those people who have crazy amounts of free time at home to play all these games?" Maybe I could quit my job?

It's coming out in Spring 2018 so no wonder.

That still doesn't explain the lack of Switch version. This was a Wii game to begin with.

As I handheld only gamer I feel betrayed with every single announcement. Come on Spike, at least give us a Shiren game!

Why do you think i bought a gpd win instead of a switch?
Pc will get all the vita games and other than that: indies, emulation, AAA games on the go, no first party and third party support problems and so on.

They just announced 428 for steam/ps4. If Kenka Bancho Otome isn't next...

I guess we aren't getting it even though it won that stupid twitter poll last year. Even if it was coming out later, there was no point in not announcing it now since 428 was announced, and that is coming next year. I'll probably buy 428 since I heard it's pretty good, but I'm feeling bitter.

I'm still buying Switch since mainline FE owns my wallet, but I'm tempted by a gpd win.

What a shitty thing to do. With the anime coming out it was the perfect time to announce it. Now I don't expect the game to get localized at all, and if it does they'll just throw the game on steam with a half-assed translation.

So, I know it's glaringly obvious as I'm a massive Vita fan, but that was a disappointing Spike-Chunsoft press conference.

I mean, not even for the reason of FPW skipping it or not having Kenka Bancho announced. For me, it was 428.

I mean, Vita has shown itself to be a fantastic home for well-received VN's (DanganRonpa; Steins;Gate) and even stuff like Code Realize has clearly done well.

And now we're getting beloved VN's from years ago, yet they're all going PS4/PC. Why? I can understand PC; and I can even understand PS4 in a sense, but why skip Vita? First The Silver Case and now 428. I'm gutted, and not sure how I'm going to play the games now as there's no way I'll play a VN on a TV and I don't particularly like playing on PC either.

Ugh.

Anyway, OT, Blue Reflection Vita footage:

Just me, or does that look like a really good port? Miles better than Nights of Azure; looks better than Atelier Shallie or Atelier Firis too.

It looks beautiful. We're not getting this on Vita, are we. I'd pay up to 100 bucks for a localized vita version, but it seems KoTec is abandoning localizing Vita games too.

I might double dip and use PS4 version's translation as guide for Vita version. I hope they'll leave cross save feature in the localized version of PS4 (they won't).

What makes you say they're abandoning localizing Vita games? They're releasing 2 this year already, both with physical releases (Atelier Shallie/Toukiden 2).

Sure, they skipped that Samurai Warriors spinoff, but I don't think that's quite the end of their support.

iirc, Chin said that Nights of Azure got skipped because it was an unproven IP and the Vita port ran poorly. Blue Reflection is unproven, but the Vita port seems solid this time and it seems to have a lot more in common with the Vita buying crowd (high school/turn-based combat) than NoA did.

So, I'd say it was 50/50 anyway. I could see them picking it up for Vita too, but I guess it depends on Gust's workload at the time.

I really hope you're right, this is one game I really really want to play on Vita. I don't care if the stop localizing/supporting Vita afterwards, I need this one. I guess we have to wait and see but no Spirit of Sanada is very worrying I think. There is no reason not bringing that one to west but they chose not to. This could be begininng of something but I really hope not.

Spirit of Sanada was a very strange situation I admit, mostly because I remember Takao pointing out a while ago that Omega Force games tend to come across because they're such a big studio with plenty of spare staff capable of coding the Vita translation in.

That said, the ratings of the Samurai Warriors games on PSN were rapidly decreasing between entries (4 -> 4-II -> 4 Empires), so I can imagine they just thought this one (being even more niche) wasn't worth it.

Not that means Blue Reflection will automatically come across, because Atelier games are decreasing in ratings too, but Gust do seem to have a dedicated Vita fanbase and the game fits in more with the wider userbase that's still here in the west.

ugh, should have never bought the playstation tv ... anyway,...

I could use some vita help.

I own a psvita on 3.60 and a pstv on 3.61
i inserted my memory card into the pstv and now, my 3.60 vita wont read it as it wants me to update to 3.61 or higher. am i ... screwed at this point?

can i back up all my savegames from the pstv to the psplus online save feature thing? then format the memory card, and then stick it back into my 3.60 vita? i can eventually get the games downloaded if i ever leave 3.60 i suppose. or can i download the save games to my (replacement) ps3 and then transfer the save games back to my current 3.60 vita?

I really will be sad if Blue Reflection doesn't make it over on Vita. I'm not sure I'm counting on it being a great game, but man it's so pretty style-wise. So very shoujo manga-y.
