Upgrade to Windows 10?

Not doing it. I have a lot of work related software on my desktop and laptop. Can't be bothered as I don't PC game anymore.

Random question, I bought a copy of Windows 8, bootcamped my mac but recently had to wipe the whole thing due to hardware issues. Can I just download the Windows 10 release and enter my windows 8 key? Or do I have to reinstall my copy of Windows 8 and then do the upgrade?

I can't restart, revert, reset, or shut down the pc. Ever since I upgraded to Win 10 I get a error applecharger.sys. Can't do anything.


 
So quick game check of what I've been paying lately. Found no performance hits with these games.

FFXIV
Diablo 3
Battlefield 4
Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 with the 360 controller is working perfectly.


I say this update is a big success. Really happy with it. Now to figure out a browser. Edge is cool but lately there's been some minor stutters. Lack of extensions is bad but I can do without since I know they're coming around in Oct.
 
Used the download tool and it was installing around 80% then out of the blue, the installer closed and I was back at the desktop. I was waiting a while for something to happen but Nada.

Sound familiar?

It keeps on happening to me but I get nowhere near 80%. Highest I've reached is 8% before it hangs for what feels like 15 minutes then restarts.

Does anyone not see the connect to Xbox One option in the Xbox app in Windows 10?

EDIT: Nevermind looks like it's updating. Still having wifi dropping issues...

Yay! Oh well I find tinkering with shit like this to be half the fun anyway. Hardly ever use bootcamp but can't pass up new OS hotness Hopefully it doesn't make me download 8.1 first. Still glad I hopped on that $40 Win 8 upgrade back in the day but it's like a daisy chain of disaster since I went from nuked Win 7 to legit Win 8: at least I ordered the free disk. Last time I had to call Microsoft and interpret a set of codes from a nice Indian woman with imperfect English and then read back said series of codes over the phone to activate it ;)
 
Microsoft may finally have me when that Xbox One wireless controller adapter comes out.

Fucking around with micro USB cables for the Xbox One pad or the 360 pad wireless adapter is driving me to drink. Maybe the Steam controller will save the day. How much trouble does the PS4 controller give people on Windows 7?
 
My cracked copy (bought PC from local builder who most likely used cracked copy) is saying I have a free upgrade. If I start the process, am I going to be asked for a key at some point?
 
This whole update seems like a BETA yet, Mouse Scrolling wont work on W10 like it did on 8 and i saw every conf possible, some missing from Win 8 cant understand this...

Search Bar wont work, EDGE wont let me add Google to make my search and updates on Store wont download, they refuse to.

On the good site, Action Center is pretty good, now i can change brightness way easier, useful for people with tablets too, also volume on my pc seems way louder with W10.

Windows Store stills very bad, honestly no point having that store, the apps i´ve used are miles behind iOS and Android, Microsoft should just drop it. Also action center takes me to facebook app, i´d rather it to take me to the web app.

Store needs to improve alot, i dont see this store getting any better honestly, mostly W10 users will use Pc, most of them wont care for Store Apps.
 
Is anybody having error 0x3fb on the Xbox app? I can't log in and it keeps telling me to try again later.

I'm having so many issues with Win10 that I might as well go back to 8.1
 
I fixed my problem, if you have a gigabyte MB make sure you uninstall on/off or your pc will run like pure crap, never shut down , take 5 mins to boot up and always get a error on a restart.
 
So if I understand correctly (Sorry to probably be the millionth person to clarify) I use my free Upgrade and upon completion of upgrade I can then burn a disk and do a clean install which will activate automatically, without inputting a key?

I'm done. That is probably the 7th time installation has failed and I've wasted about 12 gigs worth of data trying to get it working.

I did that right know and it says that my Windows is not activated. Can someone help?
 
Holy shit I want W10 bad but after all the issues people are having I'll wait a bit before I upgrade. I'm scared to fuck up my first PC. Spent ~2000 and built it myself watching ytube videos. W10 download at 87% I start to panic a bit and hit cancel lol. Can't do it.

It probably fails because you don't download all the update for god knows what reason, I had two failed update wich downloaded 2712 MB and then one for 5746'ish and then it went through.

Sucks if you have a data cap indeed, thankfully I have unlimited.

A windows upgrade can't make your PC explode or anything.... Nothing in the worse case scenario wouldn't be fixed by formatting and clean installed your previous OS.

Just make sure your log onto your Windows Account before the fresh install. Post-wipe, skip inputting a key during the fresh install, re-log into your MS account on the new install.

It was automatically registered for me. I didn't enter a key even once during the whole process.

I'm confused as to what you're encountering. I've got a gigabyte motherboard and seemingly nothing changed after the upgrade. What were you encountering and what did you uninstall?

It didn't worked for me.. I was logged in and activated the key and now it says that my key is invalid.
 
Is it just me or if you try to open a new window/menu, it won't bring up to the front? For example right click on any item and click on view properties.

Upgraded but my 2nd monitor wouldn't work and the resolution of the other one was messed up. Tried updating drivers but Nvidia experience wouldn't connect and installing the driver I downloaded from their website kept failing. So I said fuck it and reverted back to Windows 7. I'll try again in like 6 months or something maybe MS/Nvidia will get their shit together or maybe I won't. I really didn't care for what I saw in the small glimpse that I had of the OS.

It's weird how experience vary, when I first booted in Windows 10 my video driver weren't installed, I rebooted, did nothing else and geforce experience and my driver started. GTX 970 and the OS I updated from was windows 8.1

used driver sweeper to get rid of all my nvidia related files and was able to download the latest nvidia driver afterwards. things seem to be smooth now but i still cannot use my usb keyboard.

also, is there anyway to enlarge the program icons on the taskbar? they seem smaller than they used to be

I've seen this in a few posts. Where did the idea of there being "free" and "paid" versions come from? There is no paid version unless you were ineligible for the free upgrade (Vista and below)
 
Gtx 970 driver failed to install so I restarted. HUGE FUCKING mistake. Black screens after the windows logo and I can't do shit, this is literally the biggest headache I have ever had with windows. I have almost broke my keyboard as the BIOS is being extremely unresponsive when I hit delete to enter the bios.

I like buying the physical copy of each Windows. Is there not one coming out? That's unfortunute if true :(
