The horses and bayonets quip is kind of hollow considering Romney was right. The military has not been happy with budget cuts and a lot of ships are about to be placed out of commission due to their age. Ships are expensive as hell. So not only have they had to scale back, but if the money isn't there to build more ships the number of ships will drop yet again.

Considering how many the US have and how much they cost to maintain, that might not be such a bad thing.

The way war is fought is changing. America is reprioritizing assets toward more technologically contemporary avenues.

Let me guess another "domination" by Obama guys? I thought he won but it wasn't a total massacre.

But once again Lib-gaf takes a win like frigging VE day.

It's like MSNBC up in here, which was pretty hilarious post debate.

"They want to defeat Obama more than they want to defeat Al qaeda!"

What did Romney do that was so inspiring, except agree with Obama, LOL5POINT PLAN, and NO I DIDN'T SAY THAT! Which he's already been called out by a moderator in the second debate, which shows how credible he is.

You can tell the real debate experts here though. The only thing to impress some of you is to make up shit, and say you didn't or did say something with no proof. Ta-da, Romney is impressive.

He's right that we need as many surface ships as in World War 2?
What?

Of course it's not a bad thing. And I'm sure there are some in the military that won't be happy until all of our tax dollars are heading there way, but they will just have to get over it. I still can't believe Romney tried to use the fact that we have less ships as a negative.

Ok?

Military-Industrial complex.

Sorry guys, we're broke, you're just gonna have to do with a budget that's cumulatively the same as the ten nearest nations put together. Many of which are our allies anyway.

Jesus.

No, Romney was not right. Romney was comparing the state of the navy in 1917, to the state of the navy in 2012, without bothering to mention the function of the navy is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

How many battleships were in the 1917 navy? how many are there today?

how many aircraft carriers? How many nuclear submarines?

look at the air force. how many drones did we have in WWII?

just looking at the numbers, saying "look! it's less!" is hilariously off base, and shows you are either intentionally trying to play number games and mislead someone, or are so stupid you need to shut the fuck up when grown folks are talking.

The only point of Romney incorrectly pointing out that less ships mattered was so he could show support for more corporate welfare for the defense contractor cronies and their supportors

Cuts are coming because we aren't planning on fighting two wars at the same time anymore and war fatigue is causing all sorts of shit. We're cutting back because we're pulling out. Throwing money at the active military right now is nothing more than waste.

Also, I like my GPS equipment a hell of a lot more than I like my bayonet.

America deserves whoever they get.

The part that worries me is that the party of idiots is also the party opposed to free compulsory education. Can't think too hard about this country's politics without imagining idiocracy

The problem is people in the north and big cities are entirely different people and basically different countries than the people in the south and bible belt states. If the south was allowed to secede and the north remained the US there would never be a republican president again. It's really not fair that they get to keep fucking everyone over because they're ignorant and paranoid without reason.

So I felt Romney was winning early in the debate because Obama was too aggressive and kept repeating a bunch of tired attacks.

Then Obama sunk Romney's battleship.

From that point on Romney was shaken and lost, kept contradicting himself, and almost looked like he was going to cry. It was the same look he had after "Please proceed Governor." Romney clearly has never been challenged in his life by anyone, and doesn't know how to respond when he is.

Except for every single person who has refuted what he said in the last 5 minutes. Jesus the Gaf hivemind posts are dumb.

Don't worry the Latino vote will change that in the next few decades.

So you mean to tell me that the people who sell the ships, build the ships and man the ships are mad that there aren't as many ships? Surely you jest!

retrofitting

how does it work

and the cost of maintaining outdated shit that nobody wants to use is a lot higher than scrapping it and bringing in new shit.

i dont like obama but mitt is just spouting dumb shit in all directions when it comes to the military.

Why give such a hard time to undecided voters? I'm undecided in the sense that I'm hoping romney will say or do something that would make me feel like I can go ahead and not vote for four more years of this economy. Honestly I don't think there is anything that would work, but I'm still giving him the chance. He's still got a couple of weeks to whip out a game changer.

As a former army Tanker who did a year in Iraq, I'm pretty sure I did not ride into battle on the back of a horse. Also if I had to use my bayonet, I was pretty much fucked and was trying too take a few with me before they pumped me full of bullets.

Because they're fucking idiots that need a few superficial debates and 'zingers' to make up their mind, voting on a personality which they falsely equate to 'character' (as if that counts) rather than educate themselves about the issues and have a decision based upon knowledge and a true vision for the country.

Pretty sure the Poles realized this back in WWII too.

So is this whole "He passed the Commander in Chief test" line that CNN keeps harping about Romney just another way of saying he just copied everything Obama said tonight?

Four more years of net job creation without the one of the worst recessions in our history at the beginning?I'd take it.

It's them finding any way possible to avoid calling it a decisive win.

They learned this in WWI. If you were out of your trench long enough to use a bayonet, you were fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.

I want this to continue, with someone explaining how the past X amount of wars proved that bayonets were useless

Because both parties have had their plans out in the open for years now. If you don't know what Romney is planning to do and what Obama is planning to do then it's your fault for not researching. Undecided's are flat out ignorant lazy people who haven't found answers/facts for themselves, have no conviction or don't seem to have any ideas of their own on how society should function.

Honestly at this point I'm kind of inclined to think that "looking presidential" and passing the "commander in chief test" means absolutely nothing besides actual physical looks.

Basically, yeah, he's a white dude. He looks like he could be president because of that. It's plausible.

Actually, I don't think it's your fault for not knowing what Romney's planning to do. I'm not entirely sure anyone knows.

I think that claim is inflated by the media and the campaigns. There are undecided voters that are not choosing between Obama and Romney. It seems ignorant to make assumptions about a diverse group of people and to buy into what you are being hyped.

Yea, a OP is never going to center around the use of a bayonet. It isn't going to happen, I mean what is easier shooting the guy next to you or stabbing him with the end of your gun? Unless you are out of ammo you are going to shoot that guy and no one is going around a corner or into a room with no ammo unless they have a death wish. The bayonet doesn't have much place in modern warfare.

Your post is harsh but I have to agree. Can't believe anyone would still be undecided at this point when it's all been laid out for months. Perhaps an excuse could have been to wait until all the debates were over, but now? None.

This and other related conditions/events is a pretty big weight to deal with when you're entering into a presidency. This is regardless of who's president by the way.

It's not an issue that's just resolved in a 4 years as the effects are long-lasting.

Using a bayonet is taking a knife to a gun fight literally. It's not a useful tactic. Just because the marines use them means shit. The marines use the most out dated tech of all military, they use old tanks like the m1a1 while the army is already 2 gens ahead with the M1a2 SEP.

Is this the same test that George W Bush passed back in 2000 debates? Maybe the test is too easy, lol.

Fuckin CNN....
