It's $10, I'll get it, I just spent $10 on the DLC for VC.
Definitely worth that. I paid more and don't regret it a bit even though anything you hear about how terrible the game's characters, story, and writing are is all true. They are horrific. VC2 is the only game I can think of where I was actually started skipping skits the first time they played because they were just so consistently bad.
However, the gameplay is a lot of fun. I have put almost 150 hours into the game by now I think, about 3x what I've put into VC1. In some ways it feels easier than VC1 since mission maps are smaller, but they can still be challenging.
Some challenging things:
Enemy distribution is randomized making missions rarely play the exact same way when re-doing them.
There is more emphasis on smart reactive deployment and camp rushing because missions have multiple maps combined (likely due to lower memory on PSP) and you use camps to move between them.
Missions involving artificial valkyur.
Escort missions.
Missions with large level advantage over you (optionals, NG+ etc.).
Some things that seem easier than VC1:
Snipers are SUPER OP in VC2, even from the get-go, compared to how crappy they were in VC1 until the end of the game with good scopes. Scout class in general, which snipers are a subclass of in VC2, are really useful.
Vehicle use is much more attractive in VC2 and you can get tons of mileage out of light tank and APC.
Deployment from camps is automatic rather than on-next-turn.
You can retreat characters at a camp from the command screen without costing CP (vs how in VC1 you had to spend CP to activate a character and have them retreat) so you can quickly move units from camp-to-camp (or map-to-map).
All characters feel a bit more durable in general compared to VC1, enemies included, giving you a bit more wiggle room in making mistakes in unit positioning or being a bit slow on the draw (to make an attack).
Strong(er?) unit passive traits.
Fencer class <3 so OP.
AI is usually dumb.
VC2 is a fun game with bad writing. Just ignore the garbage skits and enjoy the gameplay.
