Valve Officially announces Source 2. (+ Steam Link + Steam Lighthouse)

No tech demo? You know what that means : they can't show the tech demo yet because it's a level of
Portal 3 : The caroline origin story

People should give up hoping for HL3. It's much more likely that Jesus will pop up, go SSJ3 and Kamehameha the sun and cause the destruction of our galaxy than Valve saying "Oh yeah, we're making HL3".

DOTA 2 and CS:GO to be ported to the new engine?

Sounds like they will do it for all active games. DOTA2, CS:GO, TF2, Portal 2 (perhaps with it's perpetual testing stuff). Exciting!

It also means they will likely be more active with updating them all once that transition happens

They will definitely save sort of stuff for later. Too much info to take in.

So the perfect time to announce a HL3, and still nothing? It really is dead, isn't it?

1. No it's not. GDC is for developers, not consumers.
2. No it's not. HL3 showed up on Valve's project tracker and Gabe's been indirectly talking about it for a while now and has explained why we haven't seen it yet.
3. They'll probably announce L4D3 first since that's what they showed on those leaked Source 2 presentations and it had more people assigned to it when we got a glimpse at Valve's project tracker.

Yup. And only $49.99 at that! :O

Yeah this is what a lot us were trying to do by using Amazon Fire TV or any other android based media device. Finally we can buy 1 product and know that it will work right out of the box for steam streaming. Sold!

I put Source 2 as the most important news cause honestly I think it's a pretty big deal. Considering there were leaks far back and that they decided to officially announce it that pretty much guarantees new game announcements this year. This is the closest we can get, dudes.

Best year of gaming confirmed! We're getting a Valve shooter after so many years!

Don't know why people are clammering for Valve Made games for Source 2 who cares. It will be the community made games that is going to be glorious. Amazing games are still made today from the Source Engine 1.

I think you misunderstood. They meant game developers, mod developer, and asset developers. Not community created games.

You shouldn't have to. Source 2 is not a Frankensteinian abomination unlike Source and will be well optimized and scalable. Your games should actually run better.

Not particularly interested in in-home streaming, and I can't really get hyped for an invisible game engine. Even a couple of screenshots of Black Mesa running in Source 2 would have been enough.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll have something to show eventually. I just hope I'm alive to see it.

steam link could be good considering I don't really have a portable device to do in home Street in anymore and it is a very attractive proposition for $50. Source: who is the real news here and I am eager to see it on my machine.

Because they are a highly acclaimed developer who has won hundreds awards for their great work. Why wouldn't people want games from one of the industry's best?

I guess there's nothing truly special about Source 2 except from being the first Vulcan API supporting engine out there. Doesn't mean it has no value to Valve of course as they have custom tailored every aspect for their own needs.

If Dota is anything to go by there will be a large expansion of tools for user generated content, including an easy way to make custom particles.

Can I stream media files over Steam Link? Can I watch a DRM free movie from my PC on it?

Can I root the Steam Link easily?

That's what I'd like to know.

No half-life 3 news with source 2?
I am sad. That was my theory for over about 7 years now, and it is now wrong.
Valve, at this point everything you do, even the good things, still leave me wondering, cool but what about Half-Life?

Can't wait to see a tech demo, the original Source tech demo that was showed years ago blew me away. It's probably dumb to say but, I think it's happening guys.

I believe in the Freeman.

Yes you can click out of the game.

What I do is add chrome to steam then launch it. Click out of window. Open a nonsteam game or file.

You know what I hope Source 2.0 allows, those section loads in levels are banished. Valve had that going on since the first Half Life. Bigger levels and no loading.

If they're just porting existing games--Dota 2, CS:GO and TF2 most notably--into Source 2 and not launching with an actual new game, I'll be pretty disappointed. I'm not interested in Valve the hardware developer. At all.

Really looking forward to seeing Source 2 being put through its paces, presumably by L4D3. Will also be nice to try out all the new creation tools as well, Source engine as it stands is pretty awful for that.

Would be nice, though my biggest hope would be that Source Filmmaker gets a Source 2 version. Getting transparent materials to work properly with ambient occlusion, as well as being able to use better models in general due to changes in S2 would be fantastic.

Gonna be a super exciting year in any case.

I hope there's some way to use a DS4 with the Link. I'm not sold on their controller yet.
There's usb on it, but the games would need to be programmed to use it(note you can plug it in and navigate through steam). I'm hoping that the steam controller api extends to supporting 3rd party controllers like the ds4 as SteamVR does with the Rift. I don't think they'll talk about it at GDC though. Hardware seems like its more important to discuss.

Yeah these are some of the questions I also want to know, Im happy to pay a Extra $50 to build my own Streaming/Media Device, but perhaps this isn't for people like myself and made for a simple solution for game streaming only.
