Valve Officially announces Source 2. (+ Steam Link + Steam Lighthouse)

And usually new engines are announced with tech demos or games to showcase them...

I guess there's nothing truly special about Source 2 except from being the first Vulcan API supporting engine out there. Doesn't mean it has no value to Valve of course as they have custom tailored every aspect for their own needs.

Considering they intend to author their own games on the engine, I'd be fairly sure Valve's new engine is capable enough. Remember Source 1 releasing with Counter Strike: Source first? Pretty much the same thing is about to happen with their current games

Steam Link sounds like a great inexpensive option for those who are interested in IHS but don't have a streaming PC in their remote room.

I have no need for Steam Link since I already set up an Intel NUC about a year ago for in-home streaming (and I also have Kodi on it).

They forgot to announce HL3

How is Steam Link any different than Steam In-Home Streaming? You could buy a cheap Windows tablet for only a few dozen more dollars, right?

I'll get a Link just to stream Dota 2 matches to my TV. Interested to see how everything else looks in the end, Source 2 in particular.

Now 3 solid free engines for devs to work with. I hope source 2 at least matches unreal graphics, surpassing cryengine 3 would be the best. Can't wait until we get fantastic looking games.

just checked in at the valve arg irc chat and there are people. Last few times I've gone there over the years, it's been empty. I'd say if there's going to be another amazing valve arg, it'll show up in the next few months. hl3, portal 3, something completely new, whatever, I'd bet Valve won't just drop it out of the clear blue sky.

Announcing an engine with no samples of what it can do doesn't really make much sense to me. Expecting something to happen soon. Maybe not what we all want, but at least something.

Can I stream media files over Steam Link? Can I watch a DRM free movie from my PC on it?

Can I root the Steam Link easily?

That's what I'd like to know.

Yeah these are some of the questions I also want to know, Im happy to pay a Extra $50 to build my own Streaming/Media Device, but perhaps this isn't for people like myself and made for a simple solution for game streaming only.

Very tempted to say yes to these considering the addition of Music and Videos to Steam and the recent app type inclusions suggesting the ability to purchase new media. Hoping to see streaming services too, then it will assuredly be my smart TV companion

Not too excited. Valve are kings of coming up with great initiatives and failing in the execution. See: SteamOS, Steam Controller.

It's confirmed to stream everything a PC does right? So I can even stream Origin and GOG titles if launched through Steam?
You can already do that. This is literally a small pc that uses in home streaming to stream from your pc. There's nothing special about it other than being extremely small.

I really want to see what under the radar features they're working on for steam itself. Would be great if media apps were coming along nicely. I think that's the last big feature that needs to be added to make SteamOS a solid system.

it uses in home streaming

its 50 bucks and has enough umph to get your streaming going thats all its for

if you want another whole computer solely for that its a little overkill and a lot more expensive

i mean i guess it could compete with the range of tablets youre talking about but i guess id like to see if it could actually do a good job at that for how cheap they are

things that arent really out in any final form?

Why don't they have an E3 conference?

Because they're don't have 4 games to announce like Bethesda does. And I doubt Valve would want to show Steam Consoles on stage (maybe on expo floor). They didn't make a conference for Portal 2, they went up to Sony. Although I doubt they'd do that now.

There are people in the valve ARG irc.

We are on watch here, people.

Huh? I feel lost.

You can add non-Steam games to your Steam library and stream them via IHS. Works just as well as it would if it were a Steam game, no need for any kind of workaround.

Battlefield 4 and Hardline don't work through streaming without my way

So is Steam Link basically a Steam compatible Google Chrome device? If so, I'm very sold.

I know all of the other stuff is more "revolutionary" and important, but for my day to day life, I'm more interested in this device.

Could someone explain what Lightroom is?

software that allows to track your movement when you use Valve's + HTC VR device

basically you can walk around in a room opposed to using a controller, or track other inputs

each time Valve does anything a bunch of people will show up on a Valve ARG irc channel to analyze everything in hopes of something

Doing the Lord's work.
LMAO, as if they were going to do another of those any time soon.

So is Source 2 free (without an asterisk)?

Like, no revenue share or anything, just free?

Pretty amazing if that's the case.
