- Faster to get back into your games.
- Quicker suspend/resume.
- OS, games, cloud syncs update in background. Something they want to do with Steam Deck, but it's challenging with battery powered devices like Steam Deck.
- Eliminate friction points.
- Steam Machine can wake up your TV & soundbar.
- No need to update drivers.
- No third party software required for games.
- Tools outside of games to control the internal and external resolution, performance level, framerate limit, etc.
- APIs for developers to select the best settings for games on the Steam Machine.
- Proton compatibility is in a great spot which is what they wanted for the Steam Machine.
- The positive feedback for SteamOS proved to them that there is demand for a Steam Machine.
- Steam Machine will pave the way for SteamOS on a bunch of different machines.
- They want to encourage people to try out SteamOS on their own hardware, they will expand availability in the future.
- Their mandate was you need to be able to play every game on Steam at 4K 60fps using upscaling.
- Affordability is super important, they want to reach a lot of people.
- Steam hardware survey was used as a reference.
- Good upgrade path for people on older machines.
- Simplicity is key.
- They received feedback from Steam Deck users that were happy with docked play, but wanted more power.
- 10-15% of Steam Deck users are connected to an external display.
- SteamOS is good on the Steam Deck, it's even better on the Steam Machine.
