Velma (from Scooby Doo) gets her own TV series!

Can’t wait to see Scooby Doo reinterpreted as a cat who lives with Shaggy, a blue haired, non-binary intersectional feminsist who never leaves her house but fights the patriarchy on Twitter. And the mystery machine can be….I don’t know, a vibrator or something.

Let's be honest here, Velma was never likeable in any of the Scooby-Doo series.
Look at these tits man.

This looks awful :(

What have they done to scooby doo :(

I loved scooby doo growing up, it peaked at what's new scooby doo for myself.

What the fuck at 0:54 where two intensely kissing gay guys walk right across the screen.

And the big "FU" graffiti at 1:34.

Man how on the nose can it be? Ridiculous.

Damn, it's so bad the other place is lampooning it!
They are lampooning it because it deserves it. Everyone is. There is not some magical protection against diversified content like some people desperately wish to believe. If something is shit then it going to get called shit regardless of it's "wokeness" no matter what. We have seen it multiple times already in recent memory. Westworld, female ghostbusters, Witcher, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Witcher: Blood Origins, and countless others have failed and failed hard with criticism from all sides. If something has shit writing, shit casting, or shit art direction its going to catch shit. In fact in my experience the more "woke" something is and the worse its handled by those involved the more shit it catches from the "Left" because it was a bungled chance at proper representation.

Speaking only for myself I can say that here recently the failure of the Witcher and now this has been especially fucking frustrating because I could care less about casting choices or artistic choices if the product is good.

- The Witcher had the potential to be Netflix's Game of Thrones. The lore and the writing is all there. The books ON THEIR OWN with NO alteration is good enough for 6 seasons of excellent storytelling, character development, and world building. They could have had a damn near LOTR style setting when they were done with Geralt and Ciri's story. They could have had so many different directions and spin-offs they could make. Instead Netflix in their usual ham-fisted style went for the whole fucking bag all at once. They twisted the lore, the writing, the characters, and even the setting to fit what THEY wanted instead of what the FANS wanted. And I don't even mean the casting. The casting for the core cast like Geralt, Yenn, Triss, and Ciri were fine. However EVERYTHING else was let down by the absolutely atrocious amount of liberty they took with the setting, the supporting cast, and the lore. Season 1 was fine, but Season 2 was inexcusable beyond a few great scenes. And now because of these fuckwits we are unlikely to ever see a proper Witcher series with a good budget in my lifetime.

- This Velma series could have also been great. An adult twist on a childhood classic. It worked out AMAZINGLY well for the HBO Harley series and I genuinely think that is what inspired them to take this more adult themed Scooby series the direction it did. It would have worked too if the writing wasn't so shit. The writing for Harley works because it intentionally plays off of the expectations of the audience from the lore and the historical representation of the characters. Harley turning on the Joker and calling him on his shit. That's cool. Batman being a depressed socially awkward dumbass. That's funny. Superman and the Justice League being so far up their own asses that they are useless. That's funny. Jim Gordon being a workaholic drunk that desperately wants to be best friends with Batman. That is HILARIOUS. The jokes about Robin, Nightwing, Batman's voice, MeToo, Louis Lane, etc etc. It's ALL funny. Harley finding love in Poison Ivy after all the support she gave. That's just good romance storytelling. The show consistently delivers across the entirety of the spectrum. Good storytelling, good character development, defies expectations, plays off established lore, and ultimately draws the audience into the show and into liking the cast. For fuck sake the show got me to love Bane and King Shark. My favorite characters of the show. Velma brings NONE of that. It's just "haha jokes" and bad one liners from what I have seen so far when it could have been so much more. They could have adapted the Scooby-verse and literally just copied the Harley formula to create a funny worthwhile show. Just take the most famous episodes of Scooby-doo and then adapt it to a more adult style theme. THAT IS ALL YOU HAD TO DO. And maybe they do that going forward, but good god they screwed up the first impression. Something Harley fucking NAILED.

Thanks for reminding everyone how brilliant that Harley Quinn show is. Hope they get a fourth season.

Already notice that, they are basically making up in front of the video and they make it look like its normal. Wouldn't be even if was a guy and a gal. The guys behind this series clearly know what they are doing.

I hate Mindy Kaling. Always came off as annoying cunt lol
That seems to be the theme off Mindy and all the writers who worked on this. Animation's standard will only hold up about as far as the writing goes. To me, I don't really care what color she is or ethnicity as...it's a cartoon. But the why is like I posted last October...Mindy did a self-insert and stated in interviews that she identified with the Velma character. No one who worked on the original Scooby Doo series of 1969 or the latter 2 seasons in 1970 even put that much thought into the characters. Overall, the writers wanted them to be relatively simple and fun enough so kids wouldn't get bored. They could have written the show around Shaggy and Scooby Doo and kids would have watched even if there was no background give. My ramble aside -- this show is detached from the franchise but it's not going to find an audience. Some are writing that it's wokeness but it's not even that...it's just poor writing that shows a lack of education of the film process of TV writing.

We can all agree, had this show not been about Velma (of Scooby Doo franchise fame) and the character was a new character (possibly called Mindy)...it would have been rejected during the first pitch. How a network gave the okay for this scares me. The world I grew up in was harsh to those who didn't have an amazing story to pitch for an animated TV show. There are untold thousands of shows that were pitched with pilots completed or a few episodes in production that were rejected outright before anyone even knew (until recently with the age of the internet) that they even existed. All the more reason I don't watch nearly anything anymore. The professionals are gone or dead and those who give approval to TV are about as dumb as the ones pitching it.

Best example I can think of is FOX/WB rejecting Seth MacFarlane's take on The Flintstones. There is a fully produced pilot that was only seen by a few TV executives.

You would think these companies would wake up when it comes to the masses. But oh you know. Something does seem, other reasoning, when it comes to the constant funding of failure to push certain views.
Hopefully one studio will finally go the other direction to great success and the dam will break.

I hate how “adult animation” has now kinda devolved into any American made animated show with foul language that caters to 17 year olds. It’s kinda sad how poor quality and lacking in wit and self awarenessthat this stuff has gotten since the golden era of adult swim. When I think of great adult animation, I think shows like South Park, Sealab 2021, etc. Hell, even family guy was incredibly smart and biting with its cultural commentary when at its best. Maybe its just the old man yelling at clouds in me, I don’t know…I just don’t see any of this new stuff pushing boundaries.

It's believed that Warner was going to cancel this but couldn't get out of the contract. Some say it's because they don't want to be labeled "racist and sexist" but they gave no shits when they canceled Batgirl.

Can this mark the official end of that hack Mindy please? Ffs who elevated her to this status of you can create your own show?
Come Monday, or later this weekend, there will be an article about how she has had to endure toxic fans, racism, patriarchy, etc. and basically blame every other ism for this show's - most likely - failure.
Six months from now, she'll probably get a gig doing the same bullshit treatment to The Jetson as Judy or a subversive take on Cheers with an all-female. Whatever it takes to keep failing upwards and blaming all of us on the bottom.
I just don't understand how they didn't know this would suck from the word go here?!?!?!
