[Vg Tech] Gran Turismo 7 PS5 vs PS4/Pro Frame Rate Comparison

The version tested was 1.05 on the PS4 consoles and 1.050.000 on PS5.

PS5 renders at a native resolution of 3840x2160.

PS4 Pro renders at a resolution of 3200x1800 using checkerboard rendering when outputting at 2160p or when using forced supersampling at 1080p.

When outputting at 1080p with forced supersampling disabled, PS4 Pro renders at a native resolution of 1920x1080. The native 1080p mode on PS4 Pro has some improvements compared to the 1800p mode such as motion blur during gameplay and a 60fps target for replays.

PS4 renders at a native resolution of 1920x1080.

PS5 has some graphical improvements compared to the PS4 consoles such as: improved draw distance, improved LOD transition distance, additional track detail, improved reflections, improved effects and higher quality shadows.

PS5 has two modes: a Frame Rate mode and a Ray Tracing mode. With the RT mode enabled, certain scenes outside of gameplay feature Ray Traced reflections such as race intro scenes, replays and viewing cars from the menu. The scenes with Ray Tracing run at 30fps instead of 60fps with the Frame Rate mode. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the two modes during gameplay where both run at 60fps without Ray Traced reflections.

The footage here for all three consoles was captured using race replays with the gameplay camera view which runs similarly to actual gameplay.

In my personal experience with the game, the image is always sharp and clear and there have been no discernible missed frames - not bad at all for a native 4K game.

Same, never noticed it at all in gameplay, only lower framerate in some replay angles and some select pre-race panning shots on a handful of tracks.

I din't know even PS4 had 60fps replays. So only 30fps replay has some enhancement otherwise replay and gameplay has same settings ?

Man visually I just find this so underwhelming. This is the year 2022, I expect so much more. Ten years ago Crysis 3 released and that title can still hold its own with these 'next-generation' games; You go back ten years earlier (2001-2002) than when Crysis 3 released and there is no title that would come anywhere close visually, sheeesh. 🤦‍♂️

It's a decent bump over GTS, but nothing mindblowing of course. It's a cross gen game after all.

I noticed a couple things I actually find more appealing on the ps4 versions like sun glare on cars, and the ps4 pro when set to 1080p output seems just as good as ps5 apart from resolution. The tamest cross gen difference from Sony yet.

I think PD should be applauded for making GT7 a great experience on all consoles, but really, you are undermining the improvements found in the PS5 version, such as effects, lighting, shadows, LOD, etc., not to mention being native 4K and having RT enabled replays. It's all gravy.

Explain. I never played Sport.
Time stamped. But essentially the way things are setup, you either have to grind like crazy for each car to use properly online or or spend money on credits. More or less design choices were made based on microtransactions.

RT in replays is hardly worth mentioning.

Ohhh, thought this had something to do with performance tech.

I think the industry on a whole is in a state of arrested development. You have greedy execs, unambitious devs, and a complacent media all equally responsible for this sorry state we find ourselves in.

What they've done on the Multiplayer and Sport side of things is criminal compared to GT Sport.

People are too busy crying about optional microtransactions to talk about that. It's a mess and they will end up losing the online community built in GT Sport if they don't sort it out ASAP.

All they needed to do was copy and paste the old system over with a few penalty improvements but they somehow fucked it up beyond belief.

But grinding like crazy is nothing new for a GT series game? You had to do that in all the old games as well, with Sport being the exception in that it had no performance tuning outside of the mileage upgrades.

I honestly don't have a problem with having to buy tires but I will say that any vehicle that comes with racing tires, should come standard with inters and wet tires as well (ie. Gr 3 cars).

All this does is stifle the online community. That's it. GT Sport was made for online so that aspect of the game should have been kept intact, now it's more or less a broken ass community with barely any rooms up. So yes, I have a problem for breaking something that wasn't broken before. If you want to grind the single player go for it, part of GT right.

Now I can't race with my friends in a specific car with specific conditions because the expectation for all of them was to grind that specific car and use credits to put some proper tires on for example. A huge step backwards for the online.

Nothing bad for a almost 10 years old console.
Pro looks really good too.

One thing that is annoying me in this video is how the positioning of the cars are really the same... Strange.

You know it's PS5 on the left, right?

Unambitious? Elden Ring is an incredibly ambitious game, need I remind you Starfield is releasing this year as well. Granted some releases have been somewhat by the numbers this generation so far. We've had a few standout titles and we've got the best to come as soon as cross gen has been left behind.

That's cause they used the replay with the game play camera option, you can run the exact same replay on different consoles, looks like:

Yeah it's pretty much locked 60, a silly thing to say really.

The game has numerous single frame drops during regular gameplay and has sustained falls of up to 10fps in stressful scenarios.

Both would be perfect scenarios for VRR to smooth out and make unnoticeable, if Sony actually got off their asses and rolled it out. It's now 1.5 years after launch.

I doesn't. Just cut the crap

But obviously "massive children who are on perm notice for crying about plastic boxes" get too emotional about any criticism. It's literally only a net positive for the game, but daddy Sony has been insulted and so they must SEETHE.

Be more creative, you guys are just generic at this point

I try to figure out what exactly is underwhelming about the graphic of the last GT, maybe the tracks? But this brand hasn't exactly an history of spectacular graphic in the tracks from my memories. And I'm not neither a great fan of the IP to be clear, but the graphic is far from underwhelming in the vehicle details especially considered his target is native 4k at 60 FPS.

It's a minimal difference and not every thing is better aesthetically. Even compared to say, sackboy, the differences are much less when comparing ps4 and 5.

It's cross gen, nothing to applaud really. They did the job they should.

I'd applaud them if gt7 ps5 version looked like a totally different game and it wasn't always online with mtx..

They, in my opinion, also foobar'd the single player too. It requires online to do or play anything at all in the name of "online play together" and that is what hurts me personally.

Now it sounds like the online is equally as hurt by their decisions here.

I'll stand by what I've said before: the numbered GT should have focused on the car collection and modifying in an offline state. GT7 should be out now with no online. Then this fall GTS2022 should have released. Priced at an aggressive $40 or something. It would have all the online components and league stuff. Focus on some additional cars with a racing slant.

Then if folks buy both games each acts as DLC for the other. Want to race single player with a slate of cool race cars, buy GTS2022 to compliment your GT7 purchase. Want to race online with the cars you can mod in the grind, buy GT7 to compliment your GTS2022 purchase.

Frankly a GT7 now and a GTS2023 next year with a focused quality online would have worked.

Tons of ways to get $100+ from your customer base without these casino micro transaction bullshits.

I just can't get past the framerate. I wanted to, but it's jarring going from 60 to 30. The 60fps replays look sublime with the camera movement.
I really wish devs would drop ray tracing. 60fps across the board should be the standard for next gen regardless of genre.

is this true? you have to purchase tyre compounds per vehicle?

Prime example why the PS5 should have VRR here.

I cant believe that no one in the press is asking them, why isnt digital foundry asking them? I just don't understand it.

Because most people don't care or have a tv that supports VRR. And most people also don't notice frame drops. I'm at 40h on Elden Ring and haven't noticed the frame drops. You people that are sensitive to this are a small niche group.

Only if there is no option. I play it performance mode so the replays are all 60fps and look sublime with the camera shake/panning. Very realistic and convincing.

more and more people have a tv that supports VRR with each day that passes. Sony said the ps5 would have VRR. I can't believe peeps get upset when people like myself ask for a feature that was promised in the product. I can Spot frame drops, stutter and tearing, I bought an expensive tv because Sony said the pa5 would support VRR. im Happy for You that you can't spot frame drops but I can And it's not a small niche group how can spot frame drops, you can't make those statements. Sure some people might not care but everyone would benefit and feel VRR if they had it. Soon every tv will have it so it's just a matter of time until everyone could and would benefit from it.

It is. Most people don't notice, period.

The opposite.
This game definitively doesn't need VRR.

You know 99.81% of time you will be at flawless 60fps in gameplay.

The game has numerous single frame drops during regular gameplay and has sustained falls of up to 10fps in stressful scenarios.
Wut?
Do you mean 0.19%? Or exactly 82 frames from 44130?
