So I've been have some minor problems with my PC recently, but nothing a reboot doesn't fix. I was determined to fix the problem when I had time (after a day of computer usage, programs just wouldn't open). I didn't know how or why this happened, so I couldn't find any proper search string or solution via google, so I came to gaf's computer experts.

Anyhow, after rebooting, I logged into my account. Typed in the password and I noticed it's building up my user profile. Obviously this is strange because I've had this account for well over a year. Once it's done, my desktop icons are all structured like a new account. My personal docs are gone and pretty much every aspect is defaulted to factory settings.

I decide to check c:/windows/users/profile: access denied. I right-click and check properties: 0 bytes contained within. I log out and back in: still nothing.

So what's the verdict? Did I lose my old account because vista overwrote it? Only thing I can think of is that it was corrupt, couldn't read it, and figured it didn't exist, so it created a new one.

*slightly frustrated*

*UPDATE* All right -- I just granted myself access to my profile (even though it's the same name as the one I'm currently using) and all my old files are there (so how is my current profile being saved?) I guess now begins the process of backing up those files before they disappear, but I'm still curious -- what would cause this profile split?

Thanks in advance!
