Just so you know , the late revelations , this game has ( and by that i mean the finale route), are something. can't say more because spoilers but there aren't many Vns like this one , even from clockup themselves.

Twists? I love twists!

It sounds pretty fucked up, but looks like I'm gonna have to check Euphoria out.

I don't even know what it's about

e: any guides?

I know, the overall premise of the game doesn't hide itself, but that very part you have hidden in spoiler tags was what I was talking about. Thank you for adding the spoiler tags.

Well this was the only part that could have been mistaken for a spoiler because
The death toll starts in the 2nd scene of the game ( less than 5mins in )
and is and integral part of everyone motivations.
It's even something that was in the demo that was available. That's why i didn't consider this a spoiler at all ... because it really isn't.

e: any guides?

NO translated guides for euphoria so far ( or i've missed them ) , but there shouldn't need one.
@Muntu , Try the demo and check if that's your cup of tea ...It's really the best way to jauge your impressions of the game.

Today's 50% off deal for JAST USA's Black Friday sale, is on My Girlfriend is the President and its fandisc.

I think that Groupees bundle that it came in didn't have the fandisc, right?

Edit: Yep, I don't have it.

Edit 2: Got another duplicate purchase on JAST USA. It seemd its only happened when I purchase from my phone, so I'll try only buying on my PC. Not sure why that would be tho.

Not able to view it right now. Any progress reports/release dates?

They announced Cherry Tree High Girls Fight (Summer 2016).

Btw. anyone knows how popular Otome Games are compared to "traditional" VNs? At least here in Germany Shoujo- and Yaoi-Manga are (sadly) still totally popular.

Going to amend my previous statement on Euphoria. Some of this dialogue during the sex/torture scenes, I can't take seriously at all. It's still disturbing, but there's enough hamming it up to take me out of the moment from time to time.

That being said, this is still pretty fascinating, and playing as a character with certain urges that he tries to fight against is pretty neat. This kind of protagonist is like a perfect shade of grey, yet rarely shows up in fiction because of how fucked up the implications are.

What does this post mean? I've read it several times but I'm still confused.

Sadly? What, are females not allowed to like things?

The sadly refers to the sales of (the same) Yaoi manga over and over again while smaller titles are not as successful as those run of the mill Shoujo and Yaoi Manga. Its just some personal opinion I have on the topic of manga (talking to some of the german heads of manga publishers, that actually were kinda sad that the "same" manga sell well over and over, while more mature/deeper manga sell worse).

But my question was whether Otome games sell as well, because to me it seems those are even more niché than normal VNs, while actual manga on the other hand are kinda dominating when it comes to "this" genre.

We don't have sales numbers for the otome games that have been localized outside of Amnesia (which is skewed by being sold for $3) so it's hard to tell how well they sell in comparison to your average visual novel. They do well enough that companies feel they are worth localizing, but beyond that it's difficult to make a comparison, especially since a lot the otome localizations we have gotten are really recent.

Today's 50% off deal for JAST USA's Black Friday sale, is on School Days and Shiny Days.

Also, a reminder that today is the last day of the sale.

Nice! I've been thinking about either reading or watching School Days, so I guess this is as good a time as any...

I don't know if that's a good thing or what, but I figure it'll be better than watching the anime? >_>

It's different from the anime. Don't expect the kinds of stuff in the anime. Also, there's a lot of sex, probably a bit too much. Anyways, stay away from Shiny Days for now, because it's got a lot of bugs, and JAST USA has where near fixed rhem yet. There's a patch, but there will be more patchez, and supposedly every patch will break your saves, and you'll have to start over, so it's better to wait until the final patch is out. I mean you could still buy it, just don't play it right away. If I recall School Days had bugs when it launched, thankfully that's all been fixed a long time ago.

School Days is also Sekai Projext's first translation ever. Back then they were a translation group, and they got their name from Saionji Sekai, one of the main heroines of School Days. :p

Yeah, I figured as much, I haven't seen the anime, but I've pretty much heard everything about it. I kinda have a thing for physical copies of games, but with VNs, I've pretty much given up on trying. (Except for Steins;Gate, which I'm for sure ordering the disc of when I do...) I'm not a huge fan of the sex in VNs, but I don't think it'd turn me away from the game. I'll think about it and get it later this evening if I choose to.

Also, a very neat fun fact! I wouldn't have guessed School Days to be Sekai Project's namesake. XD

Man, Clannad character "art" is just so weird. Started up the game and I really wish somebody redid the faces for this one. I couldn't bring myself to get through the anime and that seemed actually better depicted.

School Days sounds interesting but I do wish there was an all age version of that. Not going to touch that Euphoria game though, that just seems f-d up.

So far by my experience with VNs (just started Clannad, but it's going to take a backseat to Fallout 4 and then Xenoblade):

Steins;Gate------>AA->VLR->999->AA:DD->Danganronpa EP1->Kira-Kira (great music, good story, cheap on iOS)->Danganronpa EP2------>Cho Dengeki Stryker------>Higurashi (could not get into this one at all).

I am hoping Muv-Luv is going to deliver (couldn't resist Collector's edition there) on the level of Steins;Gate, that game just clicked so much (once things started going). Any other recommendations for good VNs?

What genre's are you interested in and what's your tolerance for porn?

Genre - pretty much anything as long as the story is good. I do like sci-fi (hence being excited for Steins;Gate) but enjoyed Ace Attorney and Kira Kira quite a bit. Tolerance for porn is fairly low and all the VNs I've played have been all-ages since I don't normally see it adding much to a story. Say equivalent of R rated movie or M based game would be fine.

Hypothetically if porn scenes did add to the story, would you be open to trying that?

My initial response would be Deardrops, but it has some issues; notably, there's pretty much one main route, one kind of main route, and the other two are afterthoughts. The main route is very good and worth playing, the others are just kind of there imo, not to mention there is no all ages version. If you can track down a copy of Ever17 I could see you enjoying that, as well as Rewrite if you're open to importation (used copies are available on amazon for ~$40, note that JP used copies are usually very well maintained). The new version also has some issues related to CG cropping, but G-Senjou no Maou is a fun ride as well.

Finally finished Fruit of Grisaia after 1 month reading.

Except for
Angelic Howl
route, others while only have a moderate stories, the character development and audio composition is amazing. One of the best among the VN I am already read. Worth every cent. (I bought this at $40)

Best route rank:
1.
Amane
2.
Sachi
3.
Makina
4.
Michiru
5.
Yumiko

Oh, Deardrops! Isn't that the sequel to Kira Kira (pretty good game)? Forgot about that, going to have to check it out.

Ever17 - I can't find a used copy under $50 and while I don't mind importing (Rewrite), is there an english patch? My Kanji is not great and vocab is only couple thousand words (give or take couple hundred). I doubt i can get through the story unless there is Furigana built in and even then only if its not too outside normal conversation (stuff like Steins;Gate, VLR, 999 I wouldn't even attempt).

G-Senjou no Maou is on Steam, isn't it? Added to the wishlist, going to grab it during Winter sale.

Good suggestions, appreciate it!

Yea, Rewite has an English patch or I wouldn't have suggested it. If you decide you want to give it a try and want some help purchasing it just send me a dm or something.

Also worth noting that Deardrops isn't a direct sequel and is much closer to a "spiritual sequel."

Is it a lot better then the Anime for it? That was terrible, dropped after couple episode, and the whole premise seemed somewhat boring. Completely dismissed it because of that.

I'll take a look at all three. Don't mind spiritual sequels if the story/music is good here.

Edit 2: Ever 17 prices are insane.

Yeah, unfortunately nowadays about the only way to get Evet17 in English is through "other" means. There is a site that sells the Japanese version digitally, but there's no English patch so it's kind of useless.

Damn, Euphoria's getting into some
Human Centipede
shit.

The whole plot seemed to change like halfway through. Weird, but interesting.

Sheeeeeeeeesh... It definitely doesn't sound like something I would enjoy. Good thing my interest was pretty much killed after playing the demo or I would have spent on something I wouldn't have enjoyed :(

Shame, because the plot sounds absolutely bonkers, haha

I have not watched the anime, so cannot give the impression.
Regarding the game, the second half is much better especially when you start picking the girl's route. First half is aimed for character introduction so the pace is slower which make a little boring.

First route of Euphoria beat. Got more questions than answers now. This is very clearly setting up some crazy twists that will hopefully pay off in the end.

Loving that I'm seeing shades of some of my favorite VNs in here (Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Steins;Gate), though it's unfortunately not as well executed as any of those so far. Maybe the true route will fix that.

This definitely isn't something I'd recommend to squeamish people. Hell, I wouldn't recommend this to normal people. I think many people would even question how this is legal. Hell, the fact a bunch of anime art can gross me out to this extent exists is making me question it, though the mostly stellar voice acting definitely plays a part in that. It takes a special kind of person to be able to handle this stuff.

I wanted something different from the VNs I've played so far, so I went for Majikoi. From the posts online, it's more of a romance/comedy kind of VN? It's holding up pretty well so far and some scenes are just really funny. It's a nice break from the drama/plot-heavy VNs that I played before.

Yeah, it's an action comedy that stays lighthearted.

Stop while you're ahead. The common route is OK and a few of the routes are alright but there is some really, really awful content in there. The Chris route was one of the worst things I've ever read with copious amounts of racism, really dumb plot developments, vast amounts of OOC, and two cases of "justified" rape. Even then the "good" parts are only good if you can ignore the weird ultranationalism that runs through the whole thing along with the sexism and homophobia.

Just to go into detail how bad the Chris route is from what I remember. I don't even care if this is spoilers seriously it's the dumbest fucking shit ever, look seriously just click this:
So Chris is being taken back to her home country by her dad, and Yamato doesn't want her to leave. So he decides he's going to make her realize how much she loves him by forcibly having intercourse with her, even if she says no. He goes around to all of his friends to make sure he's doing the right thing, and every single one of them tells him how great his rape plan is. Then he rapes Chris, but it's OK because "it's not rape if she enjoys it" or whatever. In a later scene Margit walks in on them having anal sex and freaks out, so Chris tells Yamato that he should stick it in Margit's ass so that she sees how good it is. Then Yamato rapes Margit, but it's OK because "it's not rape if she enjoys it" or whatever.

tl;dr Majikoi is a terrible awful no-good game.

Yeah, so far I'm digging the common route. I've heard about how bad the Chris route is... but I'm too curious to stop. Might just end up regretting that decision, but curiosity really is getting the better of me. Didn't read the spoilers, but I'm gonna get back to that once I finish her route.

Any recommendations as to whose route I should save for last? I usually save the best for last, so...

I actually refuse to play the series (one of the few, apparently); I'm pretty sure it's the one game on my VNDB blacklist.

Half of the visual novels I installed on my tablet don't really work. WEE1 displays a big screen and I can't make it fit the screen. Higurashi displays a really small screen and nothing happens when I select english. Analogue also displays a huge screen and If My Heart Had Wings doesn't even run, saying that the screen size isn't compatible with the game.

IMMHW needs at least a 720p screen, what resolution is your tablet? The other games I'm inclined to blame on "probably unity."
