The House in Fata Morgana is flawless, including the art. I don't have a single complaint about it, except for maybe the occasional repetitive shrieking.

Finally finished House in Fata Morgana, heavy stuff, 10/10, can't heap enough praise. One of the most mature VNs I've ever read, now all I can do sit and wonder why more people haven't read this.

Because despite people claiming that they want games with good stories and unique concepts, what really sells are poorly drawn anime titty games and derivative OELVNs with lesbians in them.

Anybody played the Sunrider visual novel series? Apparently it's Academy, Mask, Liberation Day, which confuses the hell out of me. Something like Muv-Luv I think but it seems the Academy part is just some side-game? I've heard the third game was basically shit but now looking at the Steam reviews it seems that people really like the changes the developer has made and now it has more positive response. Is the whole thing worth my time? It's piquing my interest since I'm in a VN phase so to speak.

Fata Morgana getting so much praise I kinda just want to start it right away. I'm an hour or so into route D in RD and... I'm kind of getting bored. So I guess I could start Fata Morgana right now, but I doubt I'd manage to finish it before ZTD is out, and that one takes precedence over everything else.

It's not a short one, but it's so engrossing that you may be able to finish it in time if you have a lot of spare time until then.

I thought the free first game was decent, but seeing as how everything that came afterwards is pretty awful, I wouldn't really recommend playing it. Academy is a really bad/boring dating sim in an alternate continuity.

Speaking of anime titty games, Purino Party is out. Aside from anything else, having a link to a free official X-rated patch In the updates section is a clear violation of steam terms and conditions using a roundabout way.
It's saddening seeing a supposedly big developer like Frontwing using such tactics, whereas Mangagamer doing their best to offer adult content in steam using the proper way.

Sunrider is simple .
Play mask of arcadius ( it's free ) then if you want more, go for the liberation day
Keep in mind that with liberation day , the production values are higher with more animation , more voices and a better UI.

Sunrider academy is just a spin-off focused on dating sims elements in a parralel universe ( but still kinda cannon) but it's not necessary.

I find the game ok ... it's not a master piece , but it's decently made and it fill a void if you seek the hybrid ( strategy + vn ).
There are better Vns to start , but sunrider is not a bad game
Ps: the Third game was not received well by a part of the audience/reviewers but most of the concerns of liberation day were fixed in the "captain edition" of the game.

How does Fata Morgana play? The description makes it sound rather linear outside of the door selection, but the plot sounds intriguing. Does it have multiple/bad endings and such?

It has a couple of bad endings that trigger right after a choice, but it's mostly just a linear story without much in the way of branching.

Purely curious, what are the Steam's guidelines on what you can and can't mention in the updates section?
(I did a fair amount of Googling and can't seem to find an actual terms of service page for Steamworks or whatever)

This answer from one of Mangagemer projects manager summarize the situation nicely.
Valve has a clear stance against adult content, In the same time they take no responsibility for community modded contents.
Purino Party patch is by no mean a "community" modded contents, and on top of that it's advertised clearly on the product store page.
They are risking too much for a cheap money garbing.

Its stupid nowadays, when you have games like Huniepop on the store with masturbating girls, girls juices etc. or even Witcher 3 where you can have Sex in almost every possible sex position with moaning etc.

And even dumber when you consider puritanism is only applied to sex, but the glorification of overly graphic violence is a-OK because reasons. Even if it's Valve's turf and it makes sense for a US-based company to have a policy regarding violence and sex that mirrors the general opinion the country it belongs to, I wish they'd open up more as long as they take the required measures for hosting "adult" content on their store. As it is, allowing all-ages games to have R-18 DLC but not allowing the base game to be sold as R-18 is a bit of an absurd stance for them to take.

I was just hoping this sale would have daily deals, but it looks like I'm out of luck with Steam's new sales system. I'll probably pick Fata Morgana up because I've heard it's quite good.

Huh...The third chapter of MangaGamer's Higurashi remake comes out today and they made a certain sprite of an abused 11-year-old character look like such blatant lolibait even after they said child nudity was risky for Steam. It's enough to make me wonder what exactly is Valve's stance on these things and how MangaGamer got away with it.

I actually think Valve gets more and more lax about that (and its good). Like I said. You have Huniepop, a game thats about building up a Harem and fucking girls with CG, that even in the censored version, is almost like a Hentai. (Masturbating girls with love juices flowing out of their panties etc.)

Witcher, which has a lot of Sex scenes.

Neptunia, which has sexual innuendos etc.

I think its good.

Oh my god I can't believe you're still shitposting about this after like a year and a half.

The answer is that context matters. This has always been the answer. It has not changed.

EDIT: See This thread for context.

I'm glad we have contents such as Gahkthun and Kindred Spirits available today on the platform, Valve is indeed becoming more open to adult content.
But if (release a patch and don't gave a f* about the validation process) model become more common it will surely backfire.

It's not shitposting. It's an honest observation about something that's happening today. It's not like I'm going to be making any more threads about it or anything.

Yeah, context matters (I had argued before it was because of the context that the sprite was distasteful). The sprite and their responses were still misplaced and questionable, but I don't want to risk derailing.

This is why Sekai licensing that train girls game worries me. Either we get more 18+ games that are never released in their full form, or the envelope gets pushed too far and we end up back in the pre-Kindred Spirits days of sexual content just not being around at all.

Given Sekai's embarrassment of admitting they're a porn game company sometimes it'll probably be the former, which I guess isn't as bad for the industry financially.

They can release patches anonymously and Valve won't care. Or they can release patches non anonymously and Valve won't care (see HuniePop and the various porn OELVN available on steam).
What Valve seems to care about is that the product sold on the store is sold without the adult content (or without the adult content accessible).
You have to use a patch to unlock/add it? Then they seem to be fine with it.

I'll try to clarify this little nugget since I see some people bringing this up or asking directly at cons like it would make me turn red and cry. Not referring to you, I am just using your quote as a springboard.

Sekai Project and Denpasoft are separate for business reasons that are bit deeper than fans thinking we are prudes. Neither end of the company believes in the need to censor or change content out of morality or personal values, but rather we answer to both developer and partner needs on these sorts of issues. Sekai Project publishes games on on a variety of platforms with strict guidelines with no nonsense clauses, meaning while many people love to ask ''where are my naked lolis'' thinking they are the bastion of free speech for demanding such types of content, Sekai Project must be smarter than that to not just go up flames cause a vocal minority think they know the market inside out on a business standpoint.

Denpasoft takes care of the 18+ away from Sekai so that none of our partners should have to truly worry what our output on their platforms will be, and it works fine for the most part. Most of the team, myself included, come from a background working in video games, but also as fans of visual novels both 18+ and all ages (shit i used to sit down with Ryu Umemoto and draw stick figures how people should be having sex in VNs).

Sorry for the longwinded answer, but its just to make sure that this sort of tired belief that we somehow shy away from 18+ gets debunked sooner than later. We're a professional company that take care of our employees and love our fans even when they are a little too horny for their own good. If I can lend you a helping hand, give me the lube my all means, just out of sight from the people in suits.

Also last day of Ne no Kami yay. And it has 18+ yay. Demosaic'd yay

Sekai Project head claiming to have a "secret, expensive" game to be announced, probably at AX. So Sekai might actually announce a full length title with a fresh translation for once. Hopefully it's not as dumb a pickup as Maitetsu.

The expensive part likely refers to it being a full-priced game like Clannad, not the licensing costs (though that may be expensive too). Or it could be the Kickstarter goal I suppse.

Hopefully AX lives up to the hype because there's a lot of build to it this year.

Right, that's what I meant in my post by "full-length title", as opposed to the tons of shorter things they've been publishing.

Can you clarify a bit what SP stance is on "Uncut" patches for Steam-games?

And why is Rabi-Ribi only 25% off? ;_;

Our stance is do as you like with your game and purchase, just be smart about it and don't fuck over either the userbase or passerby with posting 18+ screenshots on Steam or make threads on the Steam Discussions debating content that Valve in their full right don't want people to think comes from their service. It's their platform, so just be nice about the whole thing. If you wanna patch your game for your own entertainment, fine, Denpa offer patches for this reason.

What if it's White Album 2.... I know, I know, not happening. Man, that was a great anime (first one was horrid though) and VN is supposed to be very good. Hmm.. wonder if Golden Time received a VN or if Angel Beats VN came out and was any good (loved both of these shows even if Golden Time got a bit iffy toward parts of second season).

Edit: Huh, looks like yes to both VN releases. And Angel Beats has English entree on vndb:

Visual Arts announced that they were working on localizing the Angel Beats VN a little while ago at AnimeCentral.

and trading cards. Don't forget that. I've seen people spend money on trash just because "anime trading cards sell"

also fate morgana will be bought tonight. Too much praise.

Eh, not sure about that. Steins;Gate sold quite well. Clannad and Muv-Luv raised hell of a lot cash on Kickstarter. Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, Zero Escape do alright. Heck, the latter did better in the West vs Japan.

Edit: if you are talking about cheap Steam VNs, that's a different story.

Labyrinth of Grisaia ends on a pretty lame cliffhanger. Most of the content is your typical fandisc after-story, some of which is amusing. The main story has its moments, but a lot of it just a more in-depth exploration of events already described in the first game and it all feels like a giant tease. The way things are heading after that cliffhanger actually makes me a lot less interested in playing the final game. I suppose we'll always have the common route of Kajitsu.
