Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

Chrono Clock was meh. It's been a while since I cared so little for heroines in a game, there are too many of them, which results in short, under-developed routes. There is also barely any relationship progress and constant cock-blocking because all the H-scenes needed to be unlockables for some weird reason. I didn't even know an eroge could feel gimped like Chrono Clock does.

Should have licensed Hapymaher instead, interesting and meaty story with good heroines, even though the writing was often too verbose and annoying.

Just finished Neyuki no Genei. Certainly didn't expect this game to be a mystery story with horror elements. Very half-assed effort unfortunately, game is ridiculously short for a full priced game (finished in a day) and the underlying mystery for the most part gets solved at the very beginning lol. There are some pretty good scares, and Ichikawa is still drawing awesome and hot CGs but I wanted more.

And the worst thing about it all: the reason pretty much everyone was interested in the game, the "main heroine" Kaho barely has any screentime. what the fuck.

THE DREAM IS TRUE

So many stuff, I am amazed.

Give me a Vita/Steam version of Infinity and Chaos Head Noah as well, and I might die. Damn.

I hope Lemnisca's progress on 12Riven doesn't go to waste, because I was very hyped for that.

It probably will be. The message they've put on their site makes me think they are done with fan translations. Maybe a splinter group will continue on.

PS3/Vita seems likely to happen based on the hints we've been given.

Damn it. What is the likelihood of Sekai Project licensing 12Riven and localizing it somewhere down the line?

Yay!

Wish Remember11, Never7 and Ever17 were on the Vita, sigh.

Haruka looks to be...not my thing, lol. But good for the people who like it, is nice that another big name company is coming west officially.

Himawari looks interesting. Assuming I'm not overloaded, I'll consider it. Umineko will be a day one, though. I hope that can speed up Higurasi, though. I'd kind of like to see that finished before work begins on Umineko, personally.

Edit:
Is there any way to use a controller with VNs? I mean I rather lie in my bed and read them than sit in front of the PC.

I just use a wireless mouse, personally. Not perfect, but I can usually navigate well enough for most menus even on a blanket.

Just finished Higurashi Ch. 1 Onikakushi..
what?.. and there's supposed to be 13 more chapters after this?
I'm so confused right now

Definitely buying the next chapter whenever it's out though instead of waiting for a discount like I did for this one.

How in the hell did I miss that news about Sekai Project getting G Senjou no Maou? Holy shit I'm stoked.

EDIT: And Umineko is coming. I can't wait.

that puzzling face
I was told to check this thread.

Holy shit at AliceSoft coming west. I was proselytizing their soundtracks wa-a-ay before I knew they were an eroge company (to much awkwardness when I found out lol)

SHADE is on a tier of his own as far as this particular little island of the game industry goes.

Seriously I have no idea what character this theme represents but it's hype as all hell. Along with the arranged version.

I heard SHADE left the company a few years ago, though. He did end up contributing to the Atelier series, so maybe it was for the best. Was playing Escha&Logy, this song came up, and I KNEW that style was familiar. Everything from the guitar licks to the charmingly bad drum samples and mixing.

Started up Ever17 after a long break to play other stuff. Was shouting at the screen when the game started talking about
You's parents maybe being dead before she was even born
. The answer is time travel. It's and Uchikoshi game. The answer is always time travel.

[not as minor as I thought it was spoiler]
I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong

Personally I'd consider
debunking a big, game-changing theory like yami's there (joke or not)
a pretty big spoiler lol. Then again, I'm pretty sensitive about spoilers.

I should replay Ever17 too. And the ZE games. Never got MLA to work anyway so I gotta wait for the re-release.

Did you read Never7 already? I'm thinking about doing that over summer

Previous plan was Umineko but that, yeah

I love Never7. It's flawed in a lot of spots, but it subverted my expectations in so many ways. It easily split VLR and 999 to become my 2nd favorite Uchikochi thing I've read. It's such a different thing, yet it's also still got his fingerprints all over it.

Oh right, I never did! I'll definitely check that one out next, pretty sure it's the only Infinity game I've yet to play.

Now you've got me all excited lol, I should be concentrating on working

My summer vacation is August-September so if you can wait till then we could do it semi-together. I'm excited for it too.

One day I need to get around to finishing Remember 11. It's my last Uchikochi work to get through.

Never7 was alright. I enjoyed it, but I'd consider it Uchikochi's worst work by a pretty comfortable margin. Though I could probably be convinced that VLR is the worst considering how unoriginal it was.

I'll be working all summer so I probably can't play/read as much daily as you can but sure, I'll wait. I've got a pretty massive backlog to work through anyway.

Is Higurashi also available on handhelds? I've got a Vita and a DS.

There is a DS version of Higurashi made by Alchemist, but it's JP only (and there's no translation for it AFAIK). It's called Higurashi Kizuna, and I believe it has some extra content not on other platforms. I managed to get the first three games with the collector's editions while in Japan, but the fourth one was ¥4,500 so I passed up on it (the other three were ¥600, ¥1,000 and ¥1,800 for their collector's editions, respectively).

No, not in English.

Oh, too bad, I can partially understand spoken Japanese but cannot read it for the life of me. T_T

Many thanks for the info!

Also, while the DS version does have voice-overs, I've only spotted a single one so far up to the Watanagashi festival in Episode one (poor DS cartridges couldn't possibly store all that voice data).

There's also some player input at certain scenes in the form of multiple-choice questions and some graph I can't read that probably has four emotions on the edges and has you select a point in between the graph to select how Keiichi should feel, so I guess that means there're multiple endings or, at the very least, alternate scenes based on what you choose to do.

Hey there guys! I have a couple of questions:

1) Do you know if any non-Japanese made VNs have opening sung in Japanese? Or opening with any vocals at all. I know it's weirdly specific, lol, but I need to know it for my project.

2) Are there any news on Grisaia/Clannad Vita?

Sekai Project is still trying to become an approved publisher.

Sekai Project is still trying to become an approved publisher.

There's a post from dovac from February 3 on Sekai Project's forums (in the Grisaia Kickstarter discussion) that says:
Vita wise, we've been accepted as a partner for PSN, that does not mean we can publish the game just yet. It is just another step on the process of getting the game on it.

And I'm pretty sure that means they still have to do the work of porting, and this includes the Mac/Linux ports as well.

Sunrider falls under that criteria I believe (Opening)

Thanks a lot! That's what I needed.

Thanks, guys. I really hope it's still happening :(

Just read that Root Double was confirmed to be on PC, which would have been perfect had I not learned that the Xtend version was out on Vita too, which is my favorite platform.

I recently finished the main part of eden*. I'm going through the extra stuff now (if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)), and man that dialog. >_>

I happened to randomly decide to watch The Fruit of Grisaia anime adaptation on CrunchyRoll, but due to the slightly weird CR interface I ended up watching the first five episodes of the Eden arc before I finally realized that wasn't supposed to be one hell of an in medias res opening, but rather the second season (the girls all being friendly and knowing the protagonist was the most importante clue for me).

It was okay-ish except for some crappy fanservice and the finale with
Kazuki coming back in one piece and flaunting a robotic claw in all her shots, especially after a post-credits scene revealed that her real hand was actually fine and hidden underneath the claw
. The sexual undertones were obviously kept down except for
Akako/Yuuji and that horrible JB/Yuuji scene, heavily implied Kazuki/Yuuji incest and Heath Oslo molesting Yuuji while forcing him to dress like his sister
, and I was kind of put off when I looked the series up and read that Yuuji basically gets to screw with any woman he meets in the VN (including
his mother, FFS
), since the anime had an decent-ish plot even after ignoring most eroge-related stuff (as well as the Gary Stu protagonist with a dark and sad past).

Having watched the Fate/SN anime adaptation last season, which also had its H-scenes removed without hurting the plot at all (except for one part that amounted to
character development as Shirou and Rin had an intimate scene together that was removed for the anime and replaced with some crappy "tsunderes gotta tsundere" scene
). I've also heard that *eden also has some side-story H-scenes that supposedly don't add anything to the plot as well. That made me think... are there any VNs where "adult" content is tackled in an interesting way that is actually relevant to the plot rather than just used as some kind of reward you could easily adapt out without hurting the overall story and theme at all?

There are some where the adult situations matter, but I can't think of many where showing those situations in a porny graphic way is necessary to convey that. Maybe something like Saya no Uta where the disturbing sex scenes are part of the experience?

Well there is for example White Album 2,
at the end of Closing Chapter the protag and Setsuna finally get back together and fuck themselves silly all night to release several years worth of pent up feelings and desire. Can't really convey that the same way with a fade to black.
Which is why the console release for that game is so dumb.
