Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

We'll NEVER get a game like it again in Vita, won't we? :(

Persona 5, believe!

Type-0's localization was put on hiatus because releasing a big name PSP game in 2012 would be stupid. Grand Knight's History was cancelled after having its localization completed by XSEED because Vanillaware couldn't spare the programming staff to insert the translation due to Dragon's Crown.

Interesting. Didn't know that. Well, hopefully DC sales will push them to finally localize it.

Edit: Wow, top of the page again. Ok, get P4G while it's on sale. Some indie love: Save for Spelunky and Lone Survivor, they are going to be GREAT.

I think it would just show that Rockstar doesn't really take the Vita seriously. DS fans were begging for years for a GTA game and they got Chinatown wars and no one wanted it.

The fact that Rockstar has yet to release a single game on either 3DS or Vita says they don't take traditional handhelds seriously. The fact that they've gutted Rockstar Leeds, their handheld studio says they don't take handhelds seriously. Unless it was some Facebook style F2P nonsense also shared with iOS, I'd say them releasing anything on Vita is an improvement.

Oh, and Chinatown Wars is definitely the best GTA on PSP. It's actually the only one that doesn't run like crap on Vita because SCEA screwed up with the UMD dumps of the other two.

In a battle between a Bully or RDR port I'd take Bully everyday as I'd question Vita's ability to run RDR.

Sony are launching a new console in 3 months, OF COURSE it's going to be their main focus. People who were expecting that "Vita show" quote to turn out true are completely out of touch.

With that said that doesn't automatically mean there won't be any Vita stuff. It's not a mutually exclusive situation.

Sony has a platform putting up abysmal sales figures worldwide, which has 0 third party support outside of Japan (and the Japanese third party support isn't very good either) and a poor first party lineup. Excuse us for thinking that Sony might want to show people that they haven't abandoned the platform and are gearing up to tell the 5 +/- million Vita owners to fuck off and buy a PS4.

I'd love if they surprised us and it was a The Last of Us spin-off though, but I really doubt that would happen.

I think chances for a spin off on Vita are good imo. It would be a great way to get people who liked the game to buy a Vita.

And when PS4 releases, with remote play, GaiKai with the PS3 streaming I'm sure the Vita will pick up.

Ya know, porting the PSP GTA games to Vita resolution and with trophies and second stick controls would be pretty easy. Release them at $30 a piece and you're making good money, Rockstar.

Put both together for $30 if you wanna make it a must-have.

I'm about to break my Vita. Almost had it but the fucking Ashes move knocked me down.

I had found a Jack Frost persona, so I used that to give the tough guy a weakness to ice as well and then started spamming Mabufu with both the main character and Chie. Once they're gone, it's not so bad if you leave Yukiko on healing duty.

Finally beat her. Might have to do grind a bit more though since I'm still Level 12.

edit: corrosivefrost, I thought the second boss is Yukiko? I think you're ahead of me.

They'd make better money porting the PS2 games (that they're porting to iOS and Android) to Vita and releasing them at retail.

Who'd make this Last of Us spinoff? We all know it wouldn't be Naughty Dog, the game was announced after Bend shipped Golden Abyss so it wouldn't be them unless this is a 2015/2016 release (I struggle to think Vita will be around then), can't be Ready at Dawn, and I'm not sure I'd trust just anybody with that IP.

As for Remote Play, I can only see that moving Vitas if the platform cost $100, but it doesn't and it won't. The cost of entry is way too high to be viable on a mainstream scale, and honestly with the way Wii U is selling I'm not so sure that's a concept the mainstream want to adopt. Even if Remote Play moves loads of Vitas, I'm not entirely convinced that would be a good thing as it would tell developers to not bother making Vita software because Remote Play is good enough and costs them nothing. It'd also foster a userbase used to playing content on the device without paying a cent meaning there's no guarantee that this expanded Vita userbase would even be interested in buying native software. Then again, PlayStation Plus is already kind of doing that.

I'd love if they surprised us and it was a The Last of Us spin-off though, but I really doubt that would happen.

Already discussed this with friends - we decided that The Last of Us: Fight for Fungus! was more likely than anything else.

Re: PSP GTAs, I still remember the bitter, palpable disappointment when I booted up Chinatown after back to back playthroughs of LCS and VCS. Two of those games are shining examples of GTA that stand as tall as any other 3rd gen GTA, while the third is just painfully lame.

I'm not sure I want last of us spin off, sequel for ps4 yes, but not spin off for vita. Just didnt feel right, I this Last of Us is better of stay in console.

what I want for vita spinoff title that will never happen

Ratchet and clank 2d sidescroller ala megaman zero
uncharted point and click adventure or visual novel game
Killzone liberation 2
Syphon Filter reboot focus on stealth like mgs or splinter cell
Ape Escape reboot with mission/quest structure from Tomba
Warhawk/starhawk strategy game like field commander

Please say it again XD I would love it, specially if in toon style (the art of the cut scene, I love it way way more than 3D models)

I'm actually amazed that they haven't done a full Quark 2D platformer considering it exists in the world already. Ripe pickings for a PSN game that is.

Re: P4G

The fight in baths ? I found that fight quite easy but long.

My main had Sharasvatii with Media and Invigorate 2 so i was using net of 2 SP point per turn on healing and together with Yousuke healing i slowly eaten the main boss with Chie and Yukiko (him casting rage was super usefull :D )

Out of curiosity, I tried applying the 30 day PS+ trial that came with my copy of SS to my EU account and it actually came up as valid. I couldn't apply it to my account though as I needed a credit or debit card associated with it for that auto-renew thing, which is a shame. This little experiment does raise a couple of questions though.

Are DLC/promotion codes region-free, or are they simply tied to the format (NTSC, PAL etc.)?

Also, if anyone wants that trial code, just PM me and I'll sent it your way. I have no use for it.

I belive all codes except PSN+ subscriptions and wallet funding are working in any country which is part of region.

I personally won several contest for PSN minis and PSP games and only requirement was beeing America or Europe with no difference what country from Europe.

Also amazon.co.uk promo code for Fifa 13 worked with my Polish account and so did some DLC codes / online passes from games bought in UK.

If even one of the below is announced at Gamescom/TGS, I'd be satisfied:

- Borderlands
- Bioshock
- Torchlight
- Persona
- Gravity Rush
- Final Fantasy

Everything else would just be icing on the cake.

Oh god yes Torchlight 2 would be so effin awesome.

So playing some more soul sacrifice last night and I fight Illecebre.
Was having a pretty easy time of it untill she started doing that petrify move that is just the most annoying thing ever. After several fails because of that I read up that minds eye stops it. Is that a bug or is it meant to work. After I learned that she was pretty easy.

Then I moved on and got owned by the harpy dopleganger. I blame it on trying to lvl up my devine level a bit and there fore my spells running out and that arena having to few recharge points (if any at all). Il just go all out chaos on its ass at somepoint and win I guess.

I was going to switch to be +15 devine because I like the look of the arm but when I think about it I tend to be pretty good at dodging attacks and I would just be hamstringing my damage output so I will go back to my original plan of 40/60 for decent attack and an OK defence.

What spell set ups have people been using? Sometimes its tempting to make an all pinwheel set up of the needed element but that might be kinda dull combat wise lol. I actually do that on cerberus but not all the same element and only because he is very fast and all weak points on his head.

At first I thought the Illlecebra trick was a bug, but they have patched the game several times now and it is still there so it is save to guess it is on purpose.

I use throw weapons most of the time with explosives, bombs and golems mixed inbetween.

Playing support/full divine right now though.

Ah ok. I never use golums because the monsters can just move away from them.

I tend to use pinwheel and homing of the monsters weak element and then have an opposint element spell (explosive or homing normally) to detonate it. I then have a spell to pound on the monster when its down which currently is rising fist. The last 2 spots are for a heal and a defence / evade or extra attack spell depending on what im fighting.

I was looking at some of the sigils and if you go devine can you do similar damage with using certain ones. For example there is a sigil that adds a lot of attack % but reduces defence %.

I did a quick look last night but only found a bunch of kids saying how devine sucks etc etc. Only reason I decided to stick to my build is because im already ahead in chaos and trying to lvl up my devine to catch up is leading to me running out of offering power to much.

I also forgot to mention the blanket skills, which are great for elemental hell locks. With a good stunlock, a golem will do a lot of damage. You can also stuck some bosses in a corner right next to a golem, especially with a shield.

Getting to work early enough to plug the Vita into a guitar amp and play chapters 1-7 of Hotline Miami = Priceless.

That...... sounds like a freaking amazing idea.

Ah ok. Totally different style of play there to what I was thinking. Game is so varied its great.

What do you use to stun lock? do you mean leave them in hell state and not detonate it but instead leave a golem to pound on it?

I always thought that the Illecebra trick was meant to be there. She reminds me of Medusa, so I figured that closing your eyes (Using "minds eye") made the most sense. Also, I noticed that she is another archfiend that do not appear in the "lore" section.

Trying to go 99/1 right now, but battles take forever as you get more divine. Need to grind for some attack boost sigils.

Didn't think of that but it makes sense now that you mention it. Pretty clever. I mean you can always just use a stone shield to block it in stead but having that extra attack spot for her is great because she changes her element so much.

I think I will stick to my character being slightly weighted towards Chaos and then make a new devine character at a later date if I want to.

I just mean going aggressively for elemental hell states by using blankets. Not breaking it of as soon as possible sure helps, but I normally don't have the patience myself and go for chain combo too soon.
Sure, the boss gets immune to stuns but when it happens you already chipped of a nice chunk of health.

You can also use sands to stun bosses for a short time but that's more a MP playstyle in my opinion and you also need good spells and sigils to do it effectively.

At first I also used homing attacks a lot of times because they are very balanced in the damage/number of casts aspect and are also kinda ranged.

The only ports you should ask for are the games with no localization like type 0, valkyrie chronicles 3 etc, otherwise ask for new exclusive games(new ips, spinoffs, sequels).

i'm hoping "port" means a release of a game coinciding with a console game, like the new need for speed, not rereleasing an old console game on vita.
No, that would be a "multi(platform)", rereleasing an old game is exactly what "port" means.

I'm kind of feeling Real Boxing from the trailers and reviews for the iOs version.

This is a good month for Vita, overall.

The way I see it, if a game is possible on smartphones and was initially designed for smartphones and not buttons, the game can't be that good for a Vita game and certainly can't be good enough to warrant the £7.99 price tag on Vita.

Currently trying to deal with the 2nd boss in P4G... oh the fun. Can't believe I made it here in 1 sitting.

Believe, fellow Gaffer. I remember one 11 hour session of P4G. Also did a 10 hour with P3P. The games just suck you in. Even playing them back to back, (despite it taking close to 8 months, and over 330 hours for both), I still did long grind sessions. P4G just had that feeling of awesome. Even p3p with it's story book like presentation, I was just as absorbed in that too. These games are just fantastic.

In hearing so many people talk about it, I am very tempted to start P4G up again. I need a new rpg in my life, and but had also just put Legend of Dragoon on the ol Vita, cause I y'know......*cough cough*.......never really......beat it so to speak.....Other RPGs just kept gettin in the way. And now, it's threatening to happen again! Oh curse you P4, curse your dialogue! Curse your day to day life! Curse your music!

i sorry, I luv u Persona :D

I dunno. I've only had a tablet for a couple months now, but there are a lot of games I'd play that would be much better with buttons. It's made me appreciate the Vita a lot more.

Touch seems to be really good for adventure games, decent for strategy games.

It's bad for action games and RPGs. At least the moving around and such. Managing inventory is helpful. But the Vita can do that.

I know some people swear by touch for shooters, but I just don't get it. Just doesn't have any sense of feedback.

I played the entire game on mute. Im a bad person.
Dude, you missed 50% of the experience. It's the soundtrack that keeps me coming back daily.

PSASBR is dead and buried. Santa Monica Studio have confirmed on the official forums that they have no plans for releasing anything else for it. They're going to keep the servers active but that's it. There won't be any other DLC or balance patches.
I'd mourn, but I deleted the game ages ago and never even bothered downloading the PS3 version. Utterly, utterly forgettable game.

I actually really enjoy All-Stars, and probably even play it more now than back at launch, have found a great group of people to regularly play with/against too.

That's good then. I completely gave up playing the la3 games because it would completely lock up my ps3. Even after I deleted all the stuff and reinstalled-same issues. I liked it more on vita anyway (got the plat).

What a damn waste. Do I regret spending my 60 day one?

Ehh.. No, not at the time. The hype was strong, the game was fun, and the community was awesome.

But If I knew how the entire thing would play out?..... I would have been bought my Vita a new memory card or game or something...

So much wasted effort... Its sad...

I'm going to make the crazy, off the wall suggestion that it would be theoretically possible to show off several big Vita titles and still have room for a lot of PS4 stuff. Heck, with all the second screen antics at E3, I wouldn't be surprised if we see this expanded into fully fledged Vita companion games with asymmetric cross-platform multiplayer announced alongside some new PS4 projects.

lol wtf

Highlighting a cool little thing one of their fans made is crazy?

The problem with BR is that the game compares so poorly to Smash - like it or not that's the touchstone people will refer to when discussing the game. You should be able to ring out people at ANY stage of the match otherwise it's just people waiting for supers.

Also I didn't like the mash up stages - would have much preferred one game per level.

P4G:
SO I just defeated Chie's shadow and the game is giving me some time to level up and upgrade my gear and stuff. How do I do that? Not literally, I mean how do I gain more and stuff like that? Do I just hop to the TV world and wander around?

Excuse my newbie question, I'm new to the series.

My opinions are actually facts.

I actually really enjoy All-Stars, and probably even play it more now than back at launch, have found a great group of people to regularly play with/against too.
Eh, it wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't a good game either. Forgettable.

It was a very good port though, looked fantastic on the Vita.
