Warhammer 40k: Deathwatch |OT| Honor your chapter, crush the Tyranids (iOS)

Btw, I love this guy who dropped after the prologue (Tier IV):

Thanks, but what do you mean by combined, stats accuracy + weapon accuracy?

So, for this space wolf, is his accuracy 73% for the pistol?

His overall combined accuracy with that pistol is 59%. The specific weapons accuracy bonus isn't actually listed on the main page, you have to go look at that specific weapons stats and it should say something like 'accuracy +45%.' That bonus is applied to the marines base accuracy (in this case 14%) which gives you the 59% for the pistol.

Also, I am very jealous of your Sanguinary Priest. I am rolling deep with the Blood Angels and would love to have him as part of my death squad.

And I've been buffing the health because my heroes tended to die a lot in the previous rodeo games, but I guess this game is a tad easier as I haven't had anyone die yet. *knocks on wood*

No, you have just 59 accuracy with your assault Space Wolf using the Bolter which is the combined marine accuracy plus the weapon accuracy (which you can read in the weapon card).
Health is IMHO a bit of waste because later on (consider a long prologue till Act 4) enemies can kill you in a turn anyway...now you are just encountering the basic critters.

Cool!!!!
I'm not that hot with Apothecaries (it's just me anyway) but enroll him as fast as you can so you will have fully skilled and slotted for Veteran.

Very luck unlock....I'm at the end of the heroic campaign and while I have almost all the codex unlocked....I have just 2 tier 4 marines (one active and one fresh...I'll enroll him after heroic).

Any tips for mission 5-2 vet? The defensive one with the mines on the floor. I keep doing okay on it till the final wave of genestealers (some which have that long range stun ability, which is murderous) and my squad just gets overwhelmed. Still kinda unsure if I should focus my team on devastators or assaults.

Guess you'll hate me now. :)

That was the pack from my first 100 whatever the currency you earn is.

The Sanguinary Guard is my only active tier 4....and I'm on last mission on heroic now.
If you pull a Lone Wolf too....yeah I hate you :P

Fully skilled and slotted the Sanguinary Guard is a real beast.

5-2 and 8-4 are my nemesis.
I've been stuck on 5-2 on veteran for days.
A successful strategy (which let me easily pass heroic too) was to ammass my team in the corner of the street.
From there you can 'easily' get rid of the big ones that come out from the bottom of the screen, regroup and hide for cover nearby and manage the team.
Watch out because generally the nasty genestealers that come from the upper right have skills.
After a while the ones coming from left (where the tank is) stop, but you are far so watch out just for the pyros.

This is a great game. I am personally responsible for selling 5 copies by showing it to friends and family. They really nailed the look and feel of the Death Watch. It runs great too.

It honestly makes me wish GW would make a tile based board game of this.

Just completed Heroic campaign.
Simply sublime, one of best games I ever played since as a kid I got an Intellivision.
All the three campaign playthrough felt pretty different from each other...and this is coming from someone that never replays a 'story' based game but it was too good and I'm glad I did (if someone told me this before I tried it first person I wouldn't have believe it).

Rodeo devs nailed down everything in my book and as Alien is my fav movie, this was the best scifi 'Alien-esque' experience I ever had (yes I played Isolation and Deadnauts too).

I thought I finally regained possession of my life and free time....but Levelling up the Master of Relics and finding a Lone Wolf wait for me....the call is too strong to resist.

For reference, I have almost everything in the codex BUT tier 4 marines (I have just 2).
I almost didn't grind ever (just a bit at veteran to get some skills I was about to get anyway, didn't want to risk).
My team is fully skilled and slotted.
I have a TON of tier 4 items, a ton of duplicates too.

Goes without saying that multiplayer and more content (I would prefer new acts over everything else, including marines and loot) can't come soon enough.

Bravo to Rodeo games, outstanding game.

Many things stand out...the graphics, the sounds (nobody mentions them but they are fantastic), the variability, the deepness, the combinations....but what I liked more were the general atmosphere and the emergent 'stories' you live just by playing this masterpiece.

I'm almost sad for Rodeo now...after Warhammer Quest and now Deathwatch....no way they can fulfill (my) hype for their next game :P

Why does the Oath of Immortality III seal say "+100% damage mitigation until your next turn", while the Pain Suppressant III wargear says "Passive: +60% damage mitigation for 1 turn" ?

Percentages aside, don't they work the same way?

Yes, same way...they should have used the same wording but both give you damage mitigation for the whole turn.
The 100% one makes you basically invincible for 1 turn.
Both are super useful in heroic :)

Thanks, and, yeah, they should be super useful when you encounter one of the bigger bugs.

One more question: I take it that they are use-only-once-on-a-mission items like grenades?

Yes, one use per mission.

You were VERY LUCKY to get that so early....

Most of the enemies attack the nearest marine in LOS...so it's super handy to use a marine to attract all the fire/enemies while the others fire back.

So after 30-40 minutes of almost finishing act 4-1 last night (literally only had one turn left), I got the infinite enemies moving bug. Extremely frustrating, so I'm not playing any more until they fix it.

Did you try the pinch fix?
I got the bug just once in 80 hours but it worked like a charm...worth a try if you do not want to wait a week.

That must be a problematic level, first time through on normal I had the game keep crashing on the bugs turn. Had to finally quit manually out of the mission to escape the crash loop although fortunately nothing since then has happened in my game.

I used to play a football manager play by mail game. And proper mail, too. None of this electronic mail silliness. I remember some chap from Buckinghamshire phoning me up to ask if I'd consider selling my star centre back. I said no. My mum wasn't best pleased. At the phone call, I mean. Not that I wouldn't budge on the sale.

Soon, you'll be able to play Warhammer 40K Deathwatch, the turn-based strategy game based on the Games Workshop tabletop, against other players via a play by mail mode. But don't expect phone calls from angry Space Marines. And you won't have to pop down to the Post Office (they still exist, right?) to send the developer your loadouts. It's all online. It's all safe.

In a couple of weeks Deathwatch will get a free multiplayer expansion that lets up to four players put their squads of Space Marines against each other. Synchronous battles are supported, so you can watch what your opponents are doing in real time.

The play by mail mode is asynchronous, so you can jump in for a minute, take your turn, then send it off to the enemy.

Perhaps you could ring up your opponent, just to scream "For the Emperor!" down the phone. Perhaps.

Developer Rodeo released Deathwatch in July on the App Store. Gameplay is similar to its previous game, Warhammer Quest, but Deathwatch is full 3D, so you can spin, pan and rotate the camera. It's currently on sale at half price for £2.29.

Well, they lost me with that.

But yeah, sounds good. Secretly hoping for a traitor legion expansion for the multiplayer, although I do appreciate that would take a lot of work.

Wanted to update on my progress after getting stuck on 9-3

Went in with my team of Marcus Trilogoth a heavy bolter devastator, Sindril Adancio a Blood Angel with a melta gun, Philo Fistfall a tactical marine with a flamer, Leandros Cybrian a tactical marine with a bolter and my leader Edvard Fellsight a Lone Wolf.

On 9-3 the team withstood the onslaught of tyranids and dispatched everything that came our way. Edvard was a magnet for any trouble while Leandros and Philo kept the rear covered, Sindril and Marcus were able to help take down any large threats. When the carnifax arrived it came right into a trap as all special abilities were used and everyone was on overwatch waiting. It was Sindril that delivered the death blow with 3 melta shots after Edvard heroically dodged swipe after swipe from the desperate beast.

Onto 9-4 the team knew they would not all make it out alive but no-one could predict the devastation that would follow. At first it seemed an easy escape but then the Carnifax roared towards the squad. This time they were not set up and it fell to Edvard to pull the team through he charged head on and fought tooth and nail with this awful creature. In between the blows the rest of the team tried to help, Edvard landed what he thought was a death blow but the Carnifax hit back and killed the leader of the sqaud before being torn to shreds by a hail of bullets.

Without their leader all hope seemed lost but the team carried on, they then met a Tyrant Guard and could not flank it, time was running out as the flames crept nearer. The Guard turned and exposed its back but landed a horrid blow that killed Philo before being felled by Marcus's heavy bolter. At this stage the team knew they were doomed but pressed on the end was nearly in sight but the battle had fatigued them and the explosions were now very near.

All that stood in their way was one last giant alien, at this point the team knew they could not take him down but his size seemed to block any route around. Sindril started doing all he could to draw the demon out by firing melta at it but the wrath of the beast was soon too much and the hero Sindril died where he stood. But in this attack a gap had opened up the two remaining marines Marcus and Philo went left and right past the beast. The towering monster turned and started shooting at Marcus he missed three times but cruelly hit his mark on the last shot and felled Marcus. Philo had no time to mourn and pushed forward now yards from escape, he hid around a corner and prayed the beast would not catch him.

He could hear the beast taking 1, 2, 3, 4 steps but it was to late Philo had regained his breath and sprinted to freedom.

The Deathwatch had succeeded.

How do i beat the damn Carnifax. He kills my guys in like two hits. Is there a trick or am i forced to go back and grind?

I dont have any III or IV guys only some II weapons.

If you are feeling cheeky you can run to the top of the map. Their is an area at the top right, just above the exit panels that the Carnifex can't reach (too big) and will just stand outside if all your team are hold up in it. The grunts can still get in so you need some characters reserved to keeping them at bay but the rest of the team can shoot the Carnifex with no worry about retaliation and you will lose minimal marines (although 1-2 might die on the way).

At normal?
Do you have plasma weapons? Charge them and fire all the same turn.
If you need to stop the Carnifex, sacrifice one marine and have him in the middle while everyone else fire at the beast.
Do you happen to have grenades? Use them.
Grav gun? Take away APs from him.
Just some ideas...it's doable :)

I found the best way was to use my melee guy as bait as he was the only one who could survive the carnifax and give some good damage back.

Do you have anyone who uses melee weapons?

I did have a lone wolf so I guess I was quite lucky...

I got hit by the enemy turn bug on normal in act 3-1 I think (the one with the separated marine after the drop). Tried the pinch trick 5 times but with no result.

Too bad because I really enjoy the game. Went and rated it 1* explaining my reason in the review. Hope they fix it and I get to revise my score.

Thanks that worked :) and i got a IV marine from the pack! Its a stupid Ultramarine named Sicarius but still.

Love that we are getting the Dark Angels in this version. I've always found them to be the most visually interesting of the SM chapters with the use of the monk robes and general pseudo religious imagery clashing with the power armour.

So are we not gonna see an android release at some point?

I prefer something like this on PC so it works out, but it would be nice to have some 40k goodness on my Shield Tablet.

Are there any recommendations at this point for android? I tried out Space Wolf and it seems okay, but nothing special.

Sadly, I don't think android has a lot to go on by this point with regards to good 40k games. I had fun with Carnage but I can't recommend it, it is a fairly repetitive game. And the line defense game where you are Dark Angels (name escapes me) is fairly poor with low strategy options and was prone to crashing. Nothing really comes close to the quality of Deathwatch, hopefully it can be brought over soon.

It's live on steam now for about ~€24 (don't have exact price as steam treats my office as though it's in the UK, £19 discounted down to £17.

Sorry if the price has changed over time, but this leaves the PC version at nearly ten times more expensive than the current price of the iOS version. This seems a little extreme for a graphics overhaul.
