Was GTA VI's delay caused by the Series S?

Was it?

After we saw the second trailer for GTA VI and everyone being floored by the graphics, do you think Rockstar needs more time optimizing the game for the S? I believe so.

Question by a shareholder: Series S is by design a lower specced console. And presumably, GTA6 will push a lot of boundries technically, i would suspect.
Strauss Zelnick: we support the platforms where the consumers are for as long as they're there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech. our labels are really good at that. I'm not really worried.

And how much the technical limitations of the Series S will impact the game design of GTA VI? I am not talking about reduced visual fidelity and resolution. It's the scope , AI, game systems/mechanics of the game that I believe will continue to be stuck in the PS4 era.

All we've seen is cinematic cuts no actual video of what the actual gameplay looks like.

The leaked gameplay looked near GTA5s engine.

No. 2K cares not for that and they'll release it thinking about the bigger market share. They'll butt it however if necessary but I don't think it'll come to that. After all they put GTAV in a 360 and RDR2 on a XOne.

Engine is the Same since Table Tennis I presume. No way the Final Game look like GTA 5, RDR2 was already a huge step forward compared to GTA 5.

With Xbox numbers being what they are there's zero chance that any future GTA titles won't be PSN exclusives.
If PS doesn't secure future GTAs as exclusives MS will slash prices on Xbox consoles the months ahead of each GTA launch just to take a jab at Sony.
People forget that this type of expensive (to MS, in terms of money) strategic move is the literal reason Xbox exists.
MS raising the price of Xbox consoles now will maximize the perceived discount when they cut Xbox console prices in 6 months.

They would delay the Xbox version and just release it on playstation where it's going to sell way more.

The Series S might give them some headaches but there's no way the delay is because of it.

If R* rolls up to MS and says GTA VI will be on Series X only, MS isn't gonna say no lol. Xbox is cooked, as much as I think it's a shame, Sony never does too good when they got no solid competition.

no, i don;t think so
why?
because they can try later
if PC is delayed, they should not delay because of S

S has the same CPU, only the GPU is weaker, lowering gfx settings isn't hard. So no, the AI, mechanics,... won't be stuck in the PoS4 era.

I don't think so, GTA VI looks impressive because of how much details seems to be packed in every frame, not because of some never seen before black magic. Is a combination of budget, development time and thousands of people working on it, but I've seen nothing on the graphics side that looks from the future.

Ps5 version is supposedly 1440p30 with fsr2(at least i remember DF saying this about reveal trailer, things might be different now, 2nd trailer looks crisp af to my eyes(except slowed down hair animation durning movement) so series s being roughly 2,5-3x weaker gonna be 720p30, who knows maybe rockstar will opt for some dynamic 540-900p in that case ?
Basically if game looks like matrix demo, graphical fidelity wise, expect series s to be blurry af mess :)

As u can see series s had sub 720p internal res (543p and 648p are both mentioned in the vid)among many other cutbacks in matrix awakens demo, in gta6 case it will likely gonna be similary if not even more severe, depending if devs wanna get close to stable 30 or rather series s gonna have "very cinematic" 30 with dips under 20fps framerate.

TLDR: U absolutely dont wanna play gta6 on series s. Even if it will technically kinda "work" ;)

If the game is 30fps on XSX/PS5, then no.
If the Series S really was holding back its bigger brothers, we would see 120fps modes on XSX/PS5, never mind 60fps modes. Same with resolution, we would be seeing native 4k, or close to it, not the 1440p with FSR that DF found in the trailer.

Think people.

If architecture is basically the same on both consoles there's practically 0 reason to make any game exclusive, except if Sony/MS pays more for exclusivity than the developers would make if they were to release the game on both platforms. And for GTA, they could never afford that much money.

We will 100% see a Switch 2 Port at some point. It won't be at launch, it probably won't be before the PC release. But at some point, there will be one. People will triple- and qudruple-dip.

The switch 2 would blow up trying to run gta 6. There's a 0% chance of it happening unless they cut everything back by 80% and by then the game is unrecognizable.

Larian with Baldurs Gate 3 was willing to just NOT release on Xbox till they could get it working because of the Series S.

You think Rockstar is like OMG we gotta delay the whole game because of the Series S.

Bre this is a company that released a trailer on #TrailerTuesday with no hype or buildup..........noting that #TrailerTuesday is a day for Indie devs to release trailers since they dont have to compete with big companies.....R* dont give a fuck.
If the Series S cant run GTAVI with feature parity MS will bend over backwards and let it launch without feature parity.
IF MS doesnt bend the knee, Rockstar will simply delay the Xbox version......indefinately.

The Series S most certainly is NOT the reason GTA was delayed, because it has little to no sway on what Take-Two and Rockstar do.

In a perfect world rockstar should just say "fuck it" and never release the game for that trash console.

The game could have looked even better\being even more advanced without series S.

Dude. Switch 2 would explode if GTA 6 ran at 15fps 720.

You have no idea about technology if you think S2 can run GTA6. Switch 1 would struggle hard with GTA 5.

Rockstar actually launch polished AAA games. They also no longer want to do crunch and don't need to thanks to GTA V revenue. This is why there is all the delays.

If it is Microsoft will concede to any kind of requests from Rockstar about parity issues. GTA VI is too important not to make it to the Xbox platform.

How is that not true? He is saying they find a way to support machines, regardless of power.
If they could have the possibility to skip series s they would have, 100%, so, it's not true. They MUST support Series S in order to Support Series X. Series S is comparable to a bit more power Xbox One X

Ok I have a wild conspiracy theory with absolutely no evidence, but I'm gonna post it anyways.

There have been rumors of Sony stocking up on PS5s in order to mitigate the damage from tariffs. Obviously, they can only build so many in a short period of time, so eventually they're going to have to either start eating the tariff costs or passing it down to consumers. When that happens is going to be determined by demand. The more they sell, the sooner it happens, basically.

Now, we all know GTA6 is going to drive massive demand for consoles. This is going to be the single biggest entertainment launch in history. We're going to see the highest demand for the PS5 since launch. People hanging onto the PS4 since it has all the games they play on it will finally upgrade, along with people coming from Switch, PC, etc. who really want to play GTA6. It wouldn't shock me if the game is responsible for an additional 5 million or more consoles being sold in the few months immediately after release.

If Sony was indeed stockpiling PS5s to avoid tariffs, then I do not believe there was any way for them to bring in enough to cover this future demand due to GTA6. This means the additional consoles being sold would be hit with the tariff costs, which would be massive. We're talking hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars. Sony could absorb some of this (or recoup it with cost increases elsewhere), but there's simply no way for them to avoid a (likely large) price increase.

Sony and Rockstar may have had a discussion where Sony laid this out, and convinced Rockstar to push the game release back in the hopes that tariffs will be lower in a year.
