The story follows Tomoko as she attempts to improve her social status as she progresses through high school.

CV: Izumi Kitta
Main character of the series. She's bad at talking with people, nonetheless she wants to have friends and even a boyfriend. Unfortunately, her appearance, shyness and lack of experience in communicating with everyone but her own family don't really help Tomoko make things better. She finds entering high school as an opportunity to change her life and make a lot of friends, so she keeps trying to do everything to gain attention of her new classmates.

CV: Yuuichi Nakamura
Tomoki Kuroki is Tomoko's younger brother. He often doesn't understand his sister and is bewildered by her weird behavior. Also, despite him being younger, Tomoko will occasionally come to him for advice.

CV: Kana Hanazawa
Tomoko's best friend in middle school, often referred to as Yū-chan by Tomoko, who she nicknames Mokotchi. Initially a dorky looking girl, Yū changed her appearance to have prettier dyed hair upon entering high school, but still enjoys hobbies such as anime and regards Tomoko as her best friend. She has a boyfriend, which often disheartens Tomoko. She is the protagonist of the 4koma spin-off manga.

WataMote 1
That was just fantastic.
"I'm...coming SOOOOOOOOOOON!"
This show has the whole package. The comedy is fantastic. A great blend of wit and fairly dark and personal themes. And the voice acting is a huge part of that. Izumi Kitta as Tomoko is just perfect. She goes from pissed off sarcasm to psycho killer to adorable shyness in the span of minutes and they are all executed flawlessly. The other vo was executed well also, Tomoki sounds as grumpy as he looks, but her performance really makes the show.
The visuals are super interesting, with an awesome use of colour and rapid changes of style. The animation is also quite nice when it wants to be. With little animation flourishes here and there that are a nice touch. The music is really interesting too, with an odd soundtrack that wouldn't be out of place in old Looney Toons.
It's been a while since I've seen a really good dark comedy and that's what this looks to be shaping into. Bring it on!
Watamote - Episode 1
Really great animation, actually it's quite shockingly fantastic. When I first heard this anime announced I thought it was going to look like your usual school comedy, but this was pretty good.
The story is interesting and the OP/ED is good too, though I prefer the ED over the OP. Seeing her get flustered when trying to talk is very adorable btw. So it seems like this show is on my watch list for this season too.
If their's one thing this show did right is the baggy eyes effect, geez they outdid that feature on her brother and her.
Episode 1
I wasn't really expecting much from this show as I felt it really wouldn't translate well to a full length episode format but Silver Link did a good job with the first episode of this. I'd still think it'd be better of as a 15 minute thing though (azazel-san, muromi).
I'm hoping they'll start to mix the visuals up quite a bit as Oonuma's directing this and he did a fantastic job with Dusk Maiden (well, apart from the first episode).

...Why am I so in tune with this girl? Its like she's speaking my language, saying the things I want to!
Seriously though, I love this show already. Sure, maybe I have more similarities with Tomoko than I even think, but... I enjoy this show.
