Watch_Dogs reviews

I really like how the police follow you when you try to escape on foot. So far only played 1 hours, not super impressed but the hacking is really cool.

I was hoping for higher scores than this i wonder what versions are being reviewed & how each formats score differs.

It's too late for me as my PS4 copy is on the way, i am glad i did witch from the Dead\sec version to the normal version with the season pass thing, so i get all the content for £60 instead of the Dead\sec version for £90 with missing content.

I see almost nothing but PS4 reviews. Very curious to see what XboxOne Meta ends up at. I 'll make a wild guess that Ubi has sent out only PS4 copies to the media.

Interesting to see Jim Sterling rate it so highly. Not sure whether to take that as a recommendation or not. He's a great consumer activist, but after his reviews of Bioshock Infinite and Vanquish, I'm not so sure about his critical eye. Especially when he's saying there's an incredible amount of polish, yet other reviews are specifically criticizing poor AI and sloppy driving.

Wait and see, we must. Certainly doesn't seem like this game is the great next-gen hope we thought it would be.

the eurogamer review was complete drivel.

Spent most of the time nitpicking about the games faults rather than tell me anything informative about the game. In the first sentence complains about hacking...

Read his reviews, enjoy the writing, dont pay attention to the score and definetly read some more reviews. He has a very interesting taste to say the least and scores weird sometimes (overly harsh, then too perfect), which doesnt always match the text.

There's wikipedia to tell you information about the game, the thing you just read is called a critique.

Can't tell if you're serious or not, the review seems perfectly fine to me.

There is no way to 'match the scores to the text' necessarily. I can list 50 things wrong with Skyrim, but I would still give it a 10/10. It depends on how you weigh the flaws and the positives. If he gives it a 9, he's basically saying the positives definitely outweighed the negatives for him.

Some people treat reviews like there should be standard docking system for a flaw, like -0.25 points for every problem listed, but reviews aren't like graded papers.

Jeuxvideo.com 18/20 (PS4) : http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00019630-watch-dogs-test.htm

(Rough translation by me)

Original & convincing gameplay, smart level design and guaranteed immersion, Watch Dogs is a very good open world game which bears comparision with the competition. It distinguish itself with a more subtile approach and a universe fully dedicated to hacking (destroying vehicules, starting secondary missions or sneaking into security systems). We could blame its not-surprising story or a few technical issues but it would be forgetting the multiple quality effects which come along our journey in Chicago streets. For those seeking a new experience, they should also appreciate the multiplayer system, setting new basis for next-gen. For its first episode, Watch Dogs fullfill its contract by offering original gameplay and universe, distinct from others GTA-Like. And that wasn't self-evident.

82 on Metacritic.

Sounds like GAF was pretty close in the guess the Metacritic thread.
I nailed it :)

Sounds really dull.

The game is sloppy controls which cause you to constantly do the wrong thing accidentally with disastrous consequences; is inconsistently interactive world design; is a cover system whereby you get stuck on scenery or it guesses incorrectly where you want to move. The game is insta-fail stealth missions, wave-defense missions, escort missions, missions where what the character’s say and what the objective is don’t match up. The game is restrictive objectives which don’t make use of the possibilities provided by the open city or the hacking mechanics, and checkpoint positions that force you to re-watch short cutscenes or re-perform rote actions after every death.

ouch.

Anyone know if installing both disks is a bad idea on 360? (Like GTA 5). There's one you have to install, but the second is optional and I remember that causing issues on GTA because it needed the bandwidth from streaming both from the HD and the disc simultaneously.

Edit: found Ubi's official FAQ on the subject, so for anyone else wondering - only install the Install Disc, don't also install the play disc.

This post is 100% correct.

Considered the outlet in these days, the score is pretty good.

I hope for an higher meta ... Still a way better experience (not a "game", "experience") over GTa5 for me !

wow 82 is pretty decent. seems most people love it. I guess the game turned out great after all! my dedsec ps4 version should arrive any minute now and I cannot wait.

I see eurogamer is turning into edge, low-ballin' a lot of games recently. that review is a load of drivel.

This confuses me greatly. How can the cover system be like they're describing here I don't understand.

Unless the cover system changes later in the game (I'm only about 2 hours in) these criticisms seem impossible. How do you get stuck on scenery when you actively have to press the cover button in order to take cover and getting out of cover is another button. How does it 'guess incorrectly' where you want to move when you have to tell the game the exact point you want to move to?

I can understand that sometimes you can get stuck when doing the 'parkour' style stuff and a move doesn't work properly but during the cover system it's completely manually controlled as to whether you're in or out of cover, and where abouts you want him to move to, I don't understand this quote or how they were playing the game.

As I said in our review, I like Watch Dogs, which really is just the endpoint of 5-7 years of Ubisoft development (AC + Driver + Blacklist + FC3), but it's not perfect. It feel like Assassin's Creed 1, it's good, but the real magic is what's waiting when they build on it. I need a sequel.

Jaz absolutely loved it though and he's the primary reviewer, so it's his score on the end.

Oh, and Aiden's a dick.

What did Jim give Vanquish?

If I based all my purchases off of metacritic then I'm a fool and slap me and call me stupid. Especially if I don't buy a game because it scores in the low 80s. It's really become out of hand how many people I've read that say they are not buying the game because it's scoring too low. I just looked at the average score for a just a couple of my favorite games this past gen and my jaw is still recovering from carpet burns.

  • Dragon's Dogma = 75
  • Alan Wake = 83
  • Alpha Protocol = 63 (for shame)

This point has been made a million times so I won't beat a dead horse too much. People, metacritic is not your friend! Think of them this way....You and your friend go to brand new Thai Food restaurant in your neighborhood. Your friend orders your favorite type of food, but instead of you eating it HE eats it's all! Then proceeds to tell you it sucks and you decided not to eat any. The both of you go home and one of you looks like a idiot, because a week later you decide to give a try and find out it's the most amazing Drunken Noodle you've ever had!
