Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Because when people say things like that they're talking about how high the PC version will scale.

I don't know what dollar amounts or anything like that has to do with that.

The dollar amount is directly related to that scale you are referring to especially when the comparison is being made to $400-500 consoles.

there's swimming in Watch Dogs? that has to impress people that just played Infamous SS

if you really don't know what I mean by water being plastic-like in infamous, then either you haven't played the game, or you have no eyeballs, and you use psychic abilities to complete video games. BUT NO, go ahead and say that I said that you can swim in infamouis, cause apparently that's what I said? wait no....

4K support isn't really an 'enhancement' PC games have supported 4K and above for a long time. It's a basic feature of a PC game.

4K support requires a UI that scales and still looks sharp at UHD resolutions. Currently most game UIs do no scale properly.

God the video player is terrible.

It's been buffering for like 3 minutes already and it's still not working properly.

That doesn't seem much more advanced than what they've showed for Ps4 to be honest. I guess is more of the video highlighting theses effects as opposed to other trailer that focus on having some awkwardly placed cameras XD

Just so people know, wind simulation is not shit waving/ moving all over the place all in generally the same direction at all times. Every engine and pretty much all the consoles can handle that.
This is wind simulation.
HiEUVtZ.jpg

You start with a gust of wind from an origin and it actually impacts with walls and objects.
The green is where wind is strongest and purple means there is little-to-no activity.

IDK if it is on the console versions.

dont even bother, some ppl want to live in their bubble where consoles can hang with PC

Present a comparable open world game in a similar environment run through an internet video compression filter and then an internet image compression filter, presented throughout the entire pipeline at less than native res
The video is 1080p, compressed but 1080p so I just took a screengrab of it and downsampled it and the picture above is what you get. Aliasing is still there and I'm fairly certain it wasn't added by imgur compression either. Maybe you'll feel better when I reupload it to minus? Compressions goes only so far for an excuse.

VERY impressed with the lighting and the reflections etc.

Textures and character models are a bit muddy looking but I can forgive than in an open world game

I also like the Wind Simulation. It's something I wish more games had, really adds a sense of depth and realism

The time lapse zoom out view loooked good, night shot wasn't too bad either but it doesn't really even come close to 2012 reveal.
Most of the time it looked like the PS4 more or less, if anyone though PC version will look like the reveal can now stop hoping.

I think it's obvious now the 2012 was just a vertical slice tech demo and not a real game.

Agreed.

Infamous second son looks a lot better.

No, it really doesn't. Watch Dogs has a better lighting engine and more detail in the world. Infamous is all about the shiny effects and bold colors. But in terms of the way things are modeled, how aggressive the LOD is, the density of the NPCs and traffic, and the overall detail of the simulation, I'd say Watch Dogs is more impressive.

Right... Or maybe it is just because the developer has already stated the PS4 has wind simulation in the game. lol

In terms of the simulation, Watch_Dogs' PS4 version will feature a dynamic wind system that factors in ambient weather, moving objects, city topography [and other factors, creating detailed maps of air pressure eddies and currents rather than just a blowing in a single direction.

If believing it is a PC exclusive somehow makes the game seem more appealing to you though, each to his own, I guess. :p

And, actually, I am more of a PC gamer than a console gamer. I bought most of my multiplatform games on PC last gen.

yea

I've played the shit out of infamous second son. Love the game, But to be perfectly honest, Watch dogs seems a lot more "alive" than infamous...and rightfully so with all the shit its doing that infamous isn't in the background.

How far do you think they go as an 'excuse' when you're discussing image quality? Compression effects darkened areas especially and I know this from firsthand experience. If you can look at that image and tell me with a straight face that it hadn't been noticeably ruined by the time it hit you I don't know what to tell you. I mean, do any of these screengrabs look anything like a native 1080p image should? Not at all. I'm noticing the aliasing is there during that scene but it's the PC version so idk

Come on guys, that video is compressed to hell and back, even on "HD". Screenshots are pretty meaningless for fine detail/texture quality and stuff like that.
No it's HD so it's exactly like it will look. Like that screen of the taxicab that was so funny.
Joke

I agree with the detail and NPC's but Watch Dog's lighting isn't very good. They can't get the ToD colour tones to look good at all

Which is only relevant if you wish to unnecessarily push a consoles vs PC argument. There's no need for a statement that simply says the PC version scales further than the console versions to become that. Look at what you replied to. How much the PC cost wouldn't change what was originally said so I'm not sure what point you'd actually end up making.

The differences I'm expecting between new consoles and PC versions are things like detail/draw distance of objects, textures, lights and shadows, AA quality, AO quality and possibly tesselation and physx.
People need to be reminded Nvidia spent a load of cash to secure Ubisoft's extra work on some engine features regardless of whether they're possible on console hardware or not.

About the 4K thing too. I believe it's not necessarily only in reference to the render resolution of the game, but to the resolution of textures. Basically textures detailed enough for ultra high resolutions.

People will probably be in uproar at me for pointing these expectations out however because they seem to be under the impression their new $400 console is capable of doing what a $1000 PC is.

I don't really want to stir the pot because I think both game are amazing looking, but in all honesty if I had to choose between this game and Infamous, I'd have to give Infamous the nod, to me Infamous looks like a true next gen open world game.

When will there be more trailers that highlight why this game will be interesting from a gameplay perspective? All this graphics obsessing is getting too much for me.

I agree except I think texture resolution will be the same, Consoles have alot of ram that can be turned into VRAM, however I think the PC having better LoD models and draw distance will help give an illusion of also superior texture quality.
