What a 'full' Marathon run actually looks like

I've been waiting for this one. This guy is my favourite of the Extraction Shooter "experts".

It's a game that will certainly evolve from where it currently is. It is very evident that Bungie is clearly looking for community feedback to steer the direction. I don't view that as a bad thing.
i don't think it's an issue of bad/good. But effective/ineffective.

I think millions of gamers will be there at launch, regardless, solely because of their love for Bungie's gunplay.
So you think millions because of Bungie.

you are talking about expectations based on Bungie's pedigree.... what do you think sony's expectations are after spending 4B in the studio...

And as barebones as Marathon appears, there are tons of examples of successful gaas games that evolved from their launch.
that's an issue when you are hyping the fuck out of your game. and your name is Bungie and Sony is your parent company... expectations are higher

The backlash for how bad or barebones a game is at release is proportional to how much money are you asking or well-established/big the company making it is.

.. Bungie has a lot to prove

There is no reason to think Bungie won't properly adjust
this is not the issue because they will have to adjust anyway.

I think it's safe to assume that there is no company (publisher/dev) that makes a game in order to lose money or fail, right?

The Marathon situation is bigger than the game itself. Until people in positions of power within companies understand why things are happening the way they are, nothing will really change.

Hopefully both Sony and Bungie are looking at Marathon as a project that will have 10+ years of updates. And Bungie isn't only Marathon. About 1/3 of the studio is working on Marathon, while the rest are working on other projects.

And Sony I'm sure knew it would take 10+ years before they saw a return on the investment of Bungie. The 3.7bil shouldn't be a concern as the money is already spent. Sony isn't going to start laying off Bungie employees if Marathon is only a minor success. It doesn't need to be the next massive hit for Sony or Bungie, especially at launch. Marathon needs to show potential for long term growth. That is probably the expectation for Sony and Bungie at launch, or at least it should be

I mean, are we missing what Bungie just went through?

I LOVE everything about the game up until the moment they show the immediate gameplay. The recent "Simplified Realism" replacing "Graphic Realism" of early trailers absolutely breaks my heart.

another one. I didn't know their trailers had such bad like to deslike ratio and they even disable comments? wow

This whole video is a meme. Of course he did the obligatory Concord comparison.

"oversaturated bright Fortnite visuals" when Marathon isn't oversatured.

"Concordo flopped because it followed old trends" despite Marvel Rivals being a huge hit.

"No single-player"

Etc etc. TLDR; it's bad because it's pvp and live-service.
