What aspects of the PS3 and X360 controllers would you change for next gen?

360 pad:

better dpad

flat buttons
DS3:
- Make the trigger bend a little, so my fingers don't slip when using them
- Keep(!) the the analog sticks of the newer DS3 versions (flat shape)
- Make the grips a bit longer

360:
- Swap d-pad and left analog stick
- Use a real d-pad
- Make the bumpers bigger
- triggers shouldn't go all in, it hurts my fingers
- face buttons should be a bit more...flat
- build better quality controllers, my triggers squeak like hell
- No more battery pack
- Find a better solution for charging, it never seems to work properly
- make it a bit thinner

And overall: Find a solution that has all the sticks and buttons of a DS3/360 controller, but make it in two pieces like the Wii controller. That controller, while certainly problematic for a lot of games, is easily the most comfortable to use for a longer time.

Nope.

DS3:

-proper triggers. not spongey, but rather like the 360s.
-leave symetrical stick/buttons placement.
-make more rounded, like wiiu/360 pad.
-steal vita's Dpad.

360:

- Analog face buttons (and driver support for them within Windows/better driver support in general)
- Fix that shitty dpad
- Make the analog sticks more durable (the grip needs serious improvement as well)
- Add support for configurable deadzones for the sticks in the dashboard UI and allow the creation of various profiles and/or allow it to be customised on a per game basis.

-no more battery pack, rechargeable out of the box

Their rechargeable packs died long before the controller did, so I am not sure about that. I just put rechargeable batteries in the battery holder.

I love the 360 controller. The only thing I'd change is the d-pad, it's junk.

DS3: Make it more ergonomic for pete's sake and move the analog sticks.
