What could Microsoft show at E3 to finally get you to buy an Xbox One?

Gears 4 sporting a Gears 1 atmosphere and Gears 3 multiplayer with a full new cast of characters but with a few cameos. Leave every change made in Judgment out of it.

Give me a Gears game that blows my face off and I'll buy your box, just like I did with the 360.

Nothing realistic.

Third party games is what my gaming PC is for. First-party games, I prefer Sony's studios especially now that Bungie is no longer making Halo. As for third party exclusives, I'm an RPG fan first and Microsoft hasn't shown me anything I want since they got rid of Mistwalker.

Mind you I haven't bought a PS4 either.

There's not just one thing. It would have to be a number of new, high quality, exclusive IPs combined with a substantial price drop since it would only be an exclusive machine for me. I love Halo but that alone isn't enough to entice me.

I'm sort of answering the OP. For me, it's not specific games that make the Xbox One unattractive, but as a PS4 owner, the Xbox does nothing to justify the high cost of entry.

There are certainly things MS can do something about to improve the standing of the Xbox One. The hardware is fixed, so performance gulf between it and the PS4 will never change. But I really don't think that outside of the hardcore, it really matters. But cost does.

The Xbox One just doesn't offer a good value proposition. You have three cost factors, each one being objectively beaten by Sony, and combined, must be a major cause of the sale disadvantage. MS need to address these, and E3 is the time to make big changes.

The cost of the console is the obvious one. To be the weaker console, yet cost more, will hurt MS for as long as it holds true.

The cost of Live, and what you get for your money, is another. With the 360 and One, Live is pretty much mandatory if you want all the features of the console you've bought. Where as PS+ feels like a value add. Giving you lots of things for your money. Live needs to change to be competitive with PS+. Not just 'free' games, but the whole idea of app and features being behind a paywall. Sony have also been offering free games outside of PS+ with Cross Buy. PS4 owners can end up with a massive digital library without actually buying any games. The Xbox One has nothing at all like this.

The final one is that MS haven't embraced digital sales. Sony have been killing it in recent weeks and months, which some major sales rivalling Steam.

I love Halo, and will certainly eventually get an Xbox One in my life as a Halo player. But if at E3 2014 MS announced Halo 5 and Halo 2 Anniversary, I'd still hold off until the actual entire Xbox One cost was greatly reduced and that a Live subscription felt like it was offering me great benefits, not just unlocking basic features of the console.

Nothing this E3, price is way too high.

But in the future, assuming the price drops signficantly (maybe down to 200?) and they get rid of Kinect, I might consider XB1 if they buy out multiple good 3rd party dev teams. Like, maybe Platinum and Double Fine? Microsoft exclusives have never really interested me, so until they step up their exclusive offerings they won't be getting a sale from me.

Question they are both made by Remedy why are you skeptical of QB, but would buy a X1 instantly for Alan Wake 2 just curious

I said QB might make me buy a Xbone precisely because I really like Remedy and AW.

The whole live action TV stuff turned me off from QB and we have barely seen gameplay. I thought MS convinced then of going this route to justify their recent focus on TV content.

They already showed Quantum Break, so it's a matter of when for me (and "when" may be, like, a decade from now). It's a Remedy game. I like Remedy a lot.

Beyond that, Forza Horizon 2.

Show me something I didn't even realise I wanted. In other words, surprise me.

Always good advice. Gamers want what they already know, but our best games tend to come from seemingly nowhere.

There's nothing, my mind is closed on the matter. I will go with one and only one console this generation, with a not insignificant chance of no consoles at all, and that one console will be a PS4.

I haven't been a fan of the way Microsoft has operated in the games industry for basically the past 9 or 10 years, but my affinity for Halo got me to look past it as I adopted the Xbox 360 as my one console for the majority of the prior generation (added a PS3 only last year). This time around, I have no such affinity, and I will not be supporting Microsoft in their future gaming endeavors.

They can't change my mind, because quite frankly, missing a few games is really no big deal. It's just one source of entertainment, not my livelihood.

Fair. Even tho I think last part is kinda reaching.

I've already purchased the Xbox One. It's the best next gen console with an amazing library of games that keeps me glued to my TV. No need for further convincing.

Realisticaly talking?

Something that would make me get out of my house and buy one ASAP?
Probably nothing

Something that would make me consider buying one at some point in the future when it's cheaper?
- New Mistwalker Exclusive (that's more like lost odyssey and less like blue dragon)

Hopefully it is and the game is great. Price isn't really an issue for me since I'm used to pay a lot for my consoles (I'm brazilian), so I just need a couple of games that I want to justify the purchase.

I just thought of another thing that might make me buy a Xbox. A Instant Game Collection feature on Xbox Live like the one PSN Plus have.

I know Live is giving games away now, but so far they are not even close to the stuff being offered on Plus.

Edit: It's not really reaching. "Xbox One-exclusive 'Quantum Break' aims to blend TV with gaming for a 'revolutionary entertainment experience'

I have a Xbox One and am loving it but dang I would also love pretty much all of these below. Take from reddit:

This is why I'll probably never be an Xbox fan.

These games do nothing for me. I don't get a single ounce of excitement from these dream games.

Please don't take that as an offense. I am not diminishing their quality.

Cross buy with what?

Show off a fabulous new low price of 399.99 USD that also includes a free game in the box.

Clearly you meant software though and I'm not sure there's any game they could announce that would get me that would get me more interested at this point. I'm not actually horribly opposed to buying one as it is , I'm just broke right now.

Even if they announced a new Perfect Dark I don't think I could bring myself to buy an Xbox at it's current price.

So a new Perfect Dark + a price drop would be a decent start.

I'd need some solid exclusives + a price drop. The hardware is worth at most $350 to me. But even then I can play all the games with higher graphical fidelity + same features on PS4/PC. They need to invest in 1st part studios, their only exclusives I can predict which interest me are Halo/Gears/Froza and those aren't enough to warrant another console for me.

Wait they would half to show three new ips coming out this year cause that's just unrealistic.

Not this year, I doubt any new games announced at E3 will be 2014. I just want 3 new IPs (at least) to show that they're actually willing to put effort into making new games. I want them to build a first party that isn't completely laughable.

Outside of that, the only other thing that would get me on board (and one I somehow forgot) would be Lost Odyssey 2. I would buy the X1 at $499 if it had LO2.

A full, and public apology would be great too (similar to Sony after the PSN hack).

Platinum Exclusive
Alan Wake 2
From Software's FEAST SOULS, a game where your cursed player character is attacked by living food.

Something that is brand new and looks interesting, but I doubt they will do that. So disappointed that they canned Black Tusk's new IP so they can make another gears.

I will buy one when they guarantee they wont abandon it 4-5 years into its life cycle, like they did with the 360. Which became the Halo,Gears,Forza box.

- $150 price drop
- investment in first party studios
- change their ID@xbox policies
- drop Kinect
- no paywall for the apps
- attempt to compete with PS+ in the IGC/GWG department

I have a Xbox One and am loving it but dang I would also love pretty much all of these below. Take from reddit:

Yeah this would be great. Right now, I just don't use my Xbox One because the majority of the games on it are also on PS4 (and at better quality). So why buy it on Xbox One? (Same thing happened last gen but it was the PS3 in that position). And hell, even Titanfall is much better on PC than X1.

So really, outside of Peggle 2, there is nothing that has me wanting to turn my X1 back on. So for me, more exclusive titles like the ones you posted, are what would bring me back to using it.

I'm not a fan of Halo. I played the first one with a friend non stop in co-op till we finished but Halo 2 felt more of the same and boring to me so I never looked back on the series.

They would have to give me a very aggressive price with some free games included. MS can throw away cash (unlike Sony), so why not lure PS4 owners with free KI, Forza and Titanfall with kinect all in one bundle for $300?

The reason the hardware limited PS2 was able to dominate was exclusive software, but those days are gone, and if MS doesn't do something bold soon, the PS4 will be a runaway hit just like the PS2.

Why buy an Xboxone if you are a CoD casual? The only reason would be ignorance to the current reality and that's fading away fast.
