What game are you currently playing?

The First Berserker: Khazan

Played for 9 hours straight in my first session today, this one's a certified banger

Don’t sleep on it!

I bought it after playing the demo. I'm not sure if I should have lol. I am following the game on a forum and the userbase there is all over the place about the difficulty, and that includes the Easy difficulty and also after the recent patch. There are plenty of Souls and Soulslike vets there, and their experiences are varying wildly. Some say the game gives you options and flexibility in the movesets and abilities, others say it isn't enough when the bosses are overtuned despite the patch. I do not like difficult games these days so I am very reluctant to play it. I've briefly watched some streams and it indeed looks tough, but I also like what I see. I am glad you are enjoying it, and I'll be interested to read any detailed impressions you post if you happen to do so.

I was interested in this game, but the more I read about the mechanics and the more videos I watched, I decided to pass.

I think there was something in there about the face buttons on the controller being used to target different enemy parts? And there was also something about the green, yellow, and red outlines of your opponents indicating the strength of your currently equipped armament? That all sounded like way too much micromanagement for an action game.

EDIT: yeah, I got confused with another game, ignore me!

AC: Shadows
Not sure how far along in the story I am because I've largely been tackling side stuff. Did a few quests with Junjiro. Decorated my base a little bit. Cleared some castles to get some legendary gear. Loving the game.

First Beserker: Khazan
Just beat Viper. Took me a good five or six tries. Still using the spear with a build focused on building spirit and using the deflect ability.

Have been playing AC Shadows for most of this week, but this Friday I put it on pause for a short bit because I wanted to play the new story that was recently added with version 2.2 in Narushio. Oh boy, I’m so glad I did that, since the new main quest was absolute anime! It had good story pacing and writing, great characters, and stunning cinematic direction and music. That's how you do a story focused patch in a gacha game!

One of the things that surprised me the most was how much effort the devs put into the characters' expressions. These two gifs I've made with Ciaccona and Cantarella (new characters introduced in the new story) are from regular dialogue cutscenes:

This game looks great every time I see it. I've never played a gacha but I might have to try it out. I'm currently playing Fallout London (which is great) and Pathfinder: WotR.

Fast forward to some mg kicking in, and wow did the demo of PGA 2K25 feel fantastic. Reviews I watched said the gameplay itself felt good; it's just the usual shady EA monetization that is scummy and sours the otherwise solid experience. I'm gonna check it out, fuck it.

(I want to try FC25 for the Rush Mode. I was told that you can even play that mode against the CPU. Not sure I want to spend the money on two games right now though...)

Assassin's Creed Origins

Working my way through my backlog. It's okay, I suppose. I bought it due to the PS5 FPS boost, and also it being a shorter game than Odyssey, and without the enemy level scaling. Playing on Hard, but it's not a difficult game.

Well, whaddya know. PGA 2K25 really does play like butter. So smooth, so rich. It has some nice options for how to go about your round, too. I like a streamlined experience because playing full seasons of 4 round tournaments can become a slog, so I set it to 2 full rounds and it feels good. I went straight to the PGA Tour and played the opening round of the first tourney. Swinging has options for method, and finally I can nail putts again. In previous/recent entries, putting felt abysmal. In the old TW games circa the GameCube era, I got so good at reading greens and putts that I could putt almost anything from anywhere. This feels closer to that but with some realistic nuance to it. I had a few edge of my seat putts that just skirted the hole and it was a blast. There is a lot of shitty microtransaction stuff in this game, but I'm hoping to avoid it as long as I can.

I made Randy Savage lol. Pardon the shit PS5 image compression when saving to the PS App and then further downloading from there.

Clearing out a bunch of short games on my backlog

Cloud Climber - Not a game. Not even a short story. Seems like a 3D artist's portfolio piece. Whatever, it's free.
Samorost 1 - Surrealist pixel hunt. Not my cup of tea
Monument Valley - Gorgeous game. Thought it was a puzzler, but not really. Solutions are very straightforward. Only got stumped for a couple of minutes on the very last room. Plat just by playing through it. "Story" is nonsense (you're secretly a bird). Totem is an absolute bro, and whenever Totem's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Totem?"

Just finished Robocop.

The definition of meh. A few good moments interspersed with tedious walking and tedious side missions. The pacing was beyond awful - you could have big long 30 minute periods of no action whatsoever, followed by just 2 minutes of shooting.

It did look good though, there is that.

I need a palate cleanser for that palate cleanser.

Thanks for sharing. I might have to cross it off my to-play list now. I have never watched robocop and don't care to.

Play Killzone 2 if you can ^^

One of the most beautiful and best FPS games.

Dude, all opinons about the game aside, it's a fantastic movie. It's a brilliant satire of corporate culture, policing, and general society, that is as relevant today as it was in the 80s, if not more.

Anyone with even a passing interest in the last 30 years of American media needs to watch RoboCop.

Verhoeven is a master, masquerading as a hack.

It's under 2 hours. Watch RoboCop

Ok Rammy calm down I will.

hemo memo

You can't die before your death
Just wrapped up Paranormasight, exploring every branch and achieving the true ending Now diving into Shakedown: Hawaii, currently at 88 out of approximately 115 missions? Not sure.

Wrapped up Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown tonight, platinum trophy. Really great game, overall. It did not hit the highs of many other Metroidvanias I've played, but it's definitely in the upper tier and the most modern of the bunch. Better than I expected in every way, really sucks it didn't get the success it deserved. My only complaints are some really bizarre bugs that broke the game (both in boss fights too) and some heinous hitboxes for certain attacks and objects.

A lot of folk love Robocop (the game) so don’t let my opinion sway you too much. It was probably worth the £10 it cost me, so if you get it cheap you don’t have much to lose!

I’m 25 hours into AC Shadows and currently progressing through Yasuke’s personal story and making my way towards some dude in Omi. The season has just changed to winter, so I’m finding it a bit more tricky to find my way, but it does look gorgeous, and the lighting and haze effects look really nice.

I like how some of the simple looking side missions (like the butterfly collector) have more to them than it first appears.

Finished Suikoden. This HD remaster was top notch. Polished up graphics and QoL features makes it a joy to play. It feels both modern and true to the original. Very subtle changes to the art in that it never even feels like a remaster. It makes you remember it just the way it was. Until you look up comparisons and you notice just how much better it looks. Say what you will anout Konami, but they make damn good remasters of their classic games.

I'm currently playing Nier Replicant on PC. Everything about it is top quality, apart from the dated graphics, obviously, since it's a remaster of a 2010 game. I just wish they'd invested more in the side quests, since most of them are pretty average. But apart from that, it's an excellent game overall.
If this is your first playthrough you HAVE to continue playing after ending A!!!

I finished Martha is Dead and I don't really understand why this game is getting praise. On one hand it tries to remind about helping people with mental problems and suicidal tendencies (and it's doing this several times), but on the other hand there are pointless "heavy" scenes included in the game (I played the uncensored version). I didn't feel like they were there to emphasize the problem, more likely to cause controversy and have people talking about the game.
The main twist (or rather two) was pretty lame. I didn't notice any hints during the course of the game which could suggest that the story may eventually follow in that direction. Which is a shame because I liked the setting and gradually learning the story of Giulia's family.
The game feels more or less like a walking sim with only 2 bigger puzzles, but I enjoyed taking photos and meeting their requirements. The Tuscany in the game is beautiful, but the performance is all over the place. I played on XSX and there were moments when it definitely dropped below 30fps. Overall I'd give it a 6/10, I was definitely expecting a more memorable experience.

Cocoon - One of the best puzzle games I've ever played. The last hour and a half or so has some truly mind bending stuff. Amazing how many mechanics they crammed into a game that uses only 1 button, including genuinely fun boss battles. Loved the visuals and music.

Miles beyond their previous stuff (Limbo/Inside) imo.

NFS Unbound. Picked it up for 50% off a year ago and just getting around to it. Have only played the story mode thus far, but really enjoying the gameplay (story itself is forgettable, a lot of cringe). First NFS game since NFS Rivals over a decade ago. Having much more fun with this than Forza Horizon 5, which started out great but I dropped after a few hours.
