What game are you currently playing?

Tears of the Kingdom:

I've been talking to a guy saying Impa went inside the site to read stuff on the walls, but I cannot find her

Mario Kart World:

The game grew on me, it's actually very fun, more pleasant than 8 Deluxe, minus the absence of 200CC

Yeah, this game starts very slow, and you are either going to love or hate it until you get to mid-game, where the pacing and mechanics are better adjusted with your own agency and traversal. You're going to need patience for the first 5-10 hours if you want to see its true strengths.

I figure I'll either like the core gameplay loop or I won't. I'll see as I play.

I get the sense that it could be a little like Tears of the Kingdom. Where I was constantly building stuff in that game to traverse the environment. It was one of the most fun parts of the game for me. Of course, that was also accompanied with puzzle solving, exploring dungeons, finding loot, fun bosses, etc. But that creative part was super fun. If Death Stranding is anything like that, I could see myself liking it. If it's truly just a walking simulator though, I probably will bore of it very quickly. I'll see.

What I need to see is how the save system works, I haven't played it long enough to figure that out yet. Like if I'm carrying a massive load of packages on a super long trek and I get attacked or if I fall and they get destroyed, am I SOL and I lose an hour's worth of package collecting? If so, I can pretty much guarantee the game isn't going to be for me. If I still can get points for my delivery or an auto save resumes me where I died then a better chance I won't come to hate it. Like I said, I have a zero tolerance policy for games that don't respect your time and make you do large sections of playing over again if you mess up. I've quit countless games over just that alone. Even if unintentional and it's games I'm really enjoying. A couple years back I was playing Ghost Runner and one of the missions was giving me a bit of trouble. I finally got to the end and something happened where it glitched and I couldn't finish the level and had to start the level over from the beginning. Quit the game and never picked it up again. And I was enjoying it. Zero tolerance.

Hopefully this game doesn't have anything like that. I like Kojima and the atmosphere of the game so far, so I do want to like it and I hope I will.

Playing Borderlands 1 solo really highlights its co-op design as the pacing drags significantly solo. The single-player experience is significantly hampered especially by the DLCs, which feel oddly unbalanced. The Underdome in particular is an absolute slog to get through alone.

I craved an old game and started playing Snowboards Kids on the N64 (dolphin). I like how you swing tighter based on how far you tilt the stick downwards.

And Supermarket Simulator came out of early access, so I started on that.

But my main focus is on Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza. I hope I don't lose focus like I do with all the Yakuza games. Sometimes they drag on for too long and I end up taking breaks from them, prolonging the time to finish by months.

I played some more Death Stranding. I'm starting to get bored of the gameplay loop, but I'll try to stick with it a little longer for now. I had to trek to this outpost. Along the way I picked up a ton of cargo that made it really difficult to traverse. Then I found out I can't offload it at any outpost. It has to be a specific one. So I had to go aaaaall the way back to the first major city center and offload it there. Which was out of my way because I'm supposed to be headed west. And I thought traversal would be a lot more interesting than it is and maybe it will be as I play more. But so far it's just ladders, ropes, and crossing water. I've only played a couple hours. Me starting to tire of the gameplay loop doesn't bode well for me, but I'll see how I feel after a few more days. And balancing him is such a pain, I basically hold L2 and R2 permanently everywhere I go and my fingers really start to cramp. So I'm not liking that too much either.

Up in the air still if this game is going to be for me. But it's definitely not going to be unless things start to radically change as I unlock more options and stuff. And it has some of the worst and most confusing menus I've ever experienced in a game before.

Just beat Avowed, basically 100%ed it. I would have to play it again making different choices on the hardest difficulty to get all the achievements and I am not that crazy.

Uninstalled it, was about to start Clair Obscura but started Sea of Stars instead.

Once you get through the intro and into the meat of the game it seems fantastic!

You can drop cargo anywhere if you want.

  • Trails through Daybreak 2 (ps5) - need to stay on track for the next trails game...
  • Expedition 33 (ps5) - I really like the story, music, graphics, theme etc, but I don't think adding the mash button to dodge/parry etc is a good addition to turn-based jrpgs - keep that stuff out of turn based games please don't soulsify all new jrpgs :-(
  • Tyranny (PC) - nearly finished - great CRPG
  • Hellslave (PC) - freebie, it's ok but nothing special, some interesting ideas and I always appreciate indies doing something a little different
  • WarTales (PC) - what if you manage a mercenary company...
  • BG3 (Mac/PC) - on pause until next month when I literally cannot play anything else...

Doing now the Main Quest in Oblivion after wrapping up everything else in the game.

Yes, the Oblivion Gates are just as awful as I remember them. Even when lower the difficulty to zero and then just running through and closing it it's horrible. I really wonder who at Bethesda thought this would be a good idea to send the player through an area with a gazillion enemies.

I played a significant part of The Alters and I'm absolutely not feeling it. I usually love exploration in games, but here it's not satisfying at all. There isn't a lot of unique stuff waiting to be found and the whole process quickly becomes annoying because of having to constantly recharge energy. Creating new alters should've been a bigger deal, with the exception of the first one all the other ones quickly accept the fact that they're copies and were artifically created (to work). The timer is also too fast in my opinion, you always have more important things to do than relaxing and bonding with your alters.
The visuals are okayish and audio is probably the only real highlight of the game, I really like the music playing in the background, reminds me of other sci-fi titles like ME or UFO games.

Still driving around Mario Kart World. And also revisiting my Island on Animal Crossing new horizons the frame rate is rock solid on the Switch 2.

I'm also playing it currently (the first game, not the sequel). You will unlock more things later on that will make it easier to haul stuff around. For example it's not worth hauling materials around until you unlock the Bridges' truck. At the beginning I was hauling materials to build roads around with a stolen MULE's truck but it doesn't work too well, the capacity is really low. I had to make tons of trips each time.

What irks me most is that roads are actually not built together with other people. Probably just around 30% of the resources needed to build a road are contributed by other people. The rest you have to do yourself, which is extremely grindy. The way I play is: if I see a MULE's camp with tons of resources I'm gonna pick up a truck, clear the camp, get the materials and upgrade all the roads in the vicinity. The problem is that other people won't see my contribution most likely, and I won't see much of theirs either. So the completely natural gameplay loop that I described becomes a mechanically oriented grindy mess.

Really enjoying Thief. Playing on expert from the get go might not be the best idea since I'm finding myself messing up a lot but hey, that's part of the fun. Just did the mission about stealing a sword for Constantine and damn that was some cool and unexpected level design. Easy to get lost in but with enough landmarks and unique places to be able to navigate it without going mad.

Enjoying this more than I thought I would. Completed the mission where you have to sneak in and pinch some stuff from the empire. I've found quite a few treasures, done some side missions for the Crimson Dawn faction, and done a few other bits and pieces. The combat is quite basic, but that's fine with me. Going into space is really refreshing, too.

Back to nothing.

I tried Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty again and then just dropped it again. I am over action games that have meters.

I've been watching Twitch streams of Mario Kart World and despite some divisive commentary I've seen online about the game, I will play it if I can find a Switch 2. I'd like to spend time in Knockout Tour so I can collect unlockables.

Working on Khazan but also dabbling with No Man's Sky VR. I had put off buying it for a long time but having just got a Quest 3 I started messing with PCBR again. It's really fun!

Chapter 4 in Visions of Mana. Soon to reach the free city of Tsaata. I'm really starting to enjoy it. It had a slow and kinda uninteresting start but as soon as Morley and Palamena joined as Alms it has progressively become much better, both story wise and in combat. The graphics are very beautiful, the audiovisual presentation is perhaps the games strongest part, looking like a real life cartoon sometimes. The game feels very much in line with previous Mana-games, and it's a fum adventure that really brings a smile to my face. If it continues like this it might end up being my favorite Mana-game in the franchise.

Astro Bot

Well, there was me thinking that this would be an easy platinum. Nope! I've got 3 trophies left to get, and they are the hardest levels. I'm leaving it for a while; I'll come back to it another time.

Everspace 2

Just started this. It's not bad. I'm not sure what I was really expecting, as I just fancied playing a space based RPG. Will carry on.

Diablo 4 thanks to PS+.

Did a quick session, currently at level 8.
Positive first impression.

Bit of a shame that you're not as mobile during combat as in PoE2, but the game is fun so far and co-op with randoms seem to work okay-ish.

Let's see how it holds up.

Finished Prince of Persia the Lost Crown. Loved this game, thought it was very well designed and engaging. Love that they wait so long for double jump, felt great to explore the map so by the time I finished the main story, I went back loaded into the game. Found I couldn't even buy the map hints without the map sold in each section, which I avoided every single one because I didn't want to see unfogged map to hinder random exploration.

Checked to see I did about 85% clear rate on my first go, would absolutely play again. Love the platforming challenges and other such they have. I think they should have went even harder on the platforming and traps in main game, but honestly it was an excellent experience, strongly recommend! Wish I hasn't slept on it.

Story wasn't so great but not awful (serviceable) but it could have been about geodes and I would have loved it just as much. It honestly wasn't all that bad until the end whence it felt like pure cheese. Great visual style though I didn't appreciate it at first.

Ff12 with mods is grand fun. Nothing to fix the stinky ass loot system but there are sorely needed difficulty enhancements. I am actually using all 6 characters switching in and out ands it's a lot of fun. Chest and loot drop rng can also be completely negated.
Mods are god.

Space Marine 1
Crypt Custodian

How do you like CC? Maybe it is just me, but some bosses gave me a bit of trouble which I didn't expect in a game that has this artstyle.

I loaded up Space Marine 1 (I played it during 360 era but have almost no recollection of doing so) just to check it out, but kind of stuck with it. It's dated but fun, I think. Also, I have a super limited knowledge of Warhammer lore, but compared to recent games, the characters in this are almost....too nice?

Crypt Custodian: It's cool so far! I just barely started getting into it yesterday. I'm not surprised that it gets tough honestly since they introduce fairly technical combat and bullet hell elements early on. The first thing that jumps out at me is the music is great, melancholy. Next, the combat feels unusually good. Just swinging the broom around is endlessly satisfying. They just know how to animate and tweak the controls just right to feel really good. I'm just at the temple for the pretty frog so early on, but they're starting to introduce some puzzles now with the bouncing spirits so I'm pretty into it. I can see it getting punishing very easily. Already had to really watch my back more than once to make it back to save points on 1 HP, or get through my first curse with 15 enemies exploding into bullets.

Space Marine 1: I'm enjoying it, but it's ridiculously overpriced. Glad it's on GP. It's like a much lesser Gears of War 1 so far. The jetpack was a huge highlight for me and I wish you used it more often. And yeah, I'm with you on the story. I've played a few Warhammer games and they're all the same. None of them seem to really explain the beginning. There's this goofy looking fascist military cult with armor killing orcs who are supposedly dumb but navigate space and build high tech machines? Glory to the emperor, whatever. I don't get it. I'll try Rogue Trader one of these days and maybe that will be better on the story front. All I see in SM1 is just Maximus Meridius in Gladiator in a goofy blue suit killing the barbarian hordes orcs, but the gameplay is pretty fun.

Rematch: Had a hilarious game yesterday where both my teammates disconnected at the same time. It was just me as the goalie vs the other team. They were taking pity on me and just dribbling around and we were all cracking up. Game is still fun. I really enjoy shutting people down that spam the rainbow kick. People act like it's invincible but all you have to do is identify who is the RK spammer, just hold LT and follow them, let them do their RK then hit B to intercept when it lands.

Frogue: Really interesting minimalist micro-game. The only turn based wall platforming shmup action roguelike I've ever played. I'm finally starting to think like a frog and embracing the movement pathing. You usually can only jump vertically so you have to really work out some intricate hopping patterns to flank enemies at times. Got it for $2.50 and it's been fun to do some runs. Just made it to level 2 after several failed runs.

Yeah, combat is fun in a way combat was fun in a game like Death's Door, for example. And there are some cool upgrades that might never overpower you but definitely help. I think i collected around 45 upgrade points that helped me in harder fights. And, yeah, each area will have their own puzzle type - none of them (except one) gave me a headache but they also felt satisfying to solve. Good game.

Nice. I agree a lot of it reminds me of Death's Door which is a good thing.

Recommend checking all the games out by that developer - they all have the feel completely bang on.

Demon's souls

Been playing the game that started it all, the OG Demon's souls (PS3). I'm only five legit bosses in (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 3-1 and 4(5?)-2 without spoiling anything for the non-initiated). The game is fucking great. The empty ambience and worldbuilding is sublime. Kinda bordering on horror some times. It kinda makes me think of what a re-invented 3D castlevania with brutal and merciless combat thrown in would play like. I dig how rewarding the exploration is. Unlocking new shortcuts/paths feels satisfying as you cautiously make your way through. It took a bit getting into the learning curve and get used to the gameflow. I'm on edge most of the time when wandering through maps and halls lol. Taking my time with soaking in this one.

I faintly recall the early PS3 days when some early previews and press being kinda lukewarm on it. Specifically, a mixed Famitsu reviews 29/40 column. Kinda crazy to think if it hadn't caught traction among the gaming community, the whole souls craze might have not taken off.

I bet it'll probably haunt Sony forever that they didn't throw themselves onto commissioning Demon's souls 2 and allowed Bandai to swoop in to claim Dark souls.

Just learning Falcon BMS again with 4.38 which came out a couple days ago.
It's a study sim so not the easiest thing to learn. But it looks absolutely beautiful compared to the old terrain.
Playing it with VR btw.

À small indie game called "30 Birds" just released on consoles, which I've been really keen on. It's a narrative puzzle game with a gorgeous art style inspired by Persian lamps, art, carpets and culture.

So far it does not disappoint! The writing is entertaining and the world is engaging (it feels like it's based on some real world mythology).

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a gorgeous chill game.

And then I'll hopefully have time to try out Elden Ring: Nightreign this weekend, praise the rain!
On sale now. Just bought. Looks awesome.

Couldn't make it past chapter 3 of Death Stranding so I dropped that. I tried to start Bravely Default HD. Too many random encounters so I dropped that. I know you can adjust them, but it was still too many. I can't do random battles anymore. So I recently bought the new Gal Guardians game. I played for over half an hour, got to a boss. I was really tired though so I wanted to stop and get some sleep. I turn it on today and my game didn't save. I started back at the beginning. So yeah, I'm done with that game. That's $37 down the drain. But that's my no tolerance policy. And on that policy, having poorly made games that make you redo long sections of gameplay or have awful save mechanics is #1 on my list. If you don't respect my time, you aren't getting my time. Absurd that there is no save point anywhere in the first section of the game. Unless there is a way to save that I just flat out missed, but I don't think so.

So that's 3 games I had lined up that are all no go's. Will move on to something else until Donkey Kong comes out soon.

Just beat Thief. Left some impressions in an LTTP thread I mead some days ago, but basically I've loved the game.

The last few missions seem to lose the focus on stealth and are more about action and survival, but I didn't mind the change in pace. Beating the final boss by doing the Mission Impossible thing were you hang from the ceiling to retrieve an item was awesome lol.

Anyway, not much to add about the game. I think I'll play Thief II very soon, plus Deadly Shadows and finally that mod The Black Parade which seems awesome.

Wanted to finish GRIS on my own and then get the Platinum later but I don't really dig the gameplay, so I'll wraping it up with a guide. Great art though.

Doing this just to bridge the time to the System Shock 2 and Robocop release.
