And it's not just recent immigrants; 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Asians tend to do it in droves too. And as someone who is ethnically mixed and prides himself in having a diverse group of friends, it really bothers me.

I've heard this many times before, how Asian guys make for bad relationships. I don't think I ever really got a good response on why this is the case, or maybe I just dismissed it as nonsense.
So why do Asian guys make for bad dates?. I'm hoping it's something other than penis size.

For Japanese men, their mothers molly-coddle them until they get married and expect that any woman that comes after their mother in their life will dote on them in the same way. Not to mention that many Japanese male immigrants want so desperately to integrate into white society that they're willing to forsake everything and anything to do it. Appreciate the culture they come from, and they'll hate you for it.
For the Chinese and Taiwanese, they can be great... but you gotta be the first white person they're with. Their first relationship with a white person poisons them for any others that follow and you'll be haunted by that if that first one ended badly.. if they let you have one at all. Lots of Chinese guys get cozy with you and then get cold feet from the memories of the whitey that spurned them.
Korean guys... well, they just don't talk. Ever. It's like dating a mannequin with a pull-string voicebox, mostly pointless.
Thai men are sex-obsessed. Nuff said.
Filipino men? Schizophrenic. Plus, the family is a tougher obstacle there than any other.
There's LOTS of reasons why, and while there are variations to these outlines (there's ALWAYS a statistical anomaly), these are just some of the reasons.
Hm wait, looking at your user name and your extensive experiences with relationships with asian men...are you talking about gay relationships here?Terrell said:It depends on the culture they come from and how recently they have migrated from their home sometimes.

Everyone's familiar with the Japanese and their extra-extended "working vacations", as it were. You shouldn't even bother with those ones, NOTHING will keep them in North America, certainly not some fling they're having to pass the time.rykomatsu said:What?
I only know of ONE person that's like this...all the others are content to stay in their respective cliques/expat groups with a vast majority saying that they eventually want to return/move back/retire to Japan.

And yes, my experiences are with gay Asian men, but the anecdotes I've heard from women over the years clearly show that they experience the same difficulties that I have.
Keep in mind, however, that 1st and 2nd generations of North American born Asians don't have these problems like the freshly-immigrated do. But the challenges with their parents' culture are still there sometimes, but often diluted in some way.
There's your answer.major_killjoy said:I was going to say, you're spot on with the comment on Filipino guys. (primary reason, why I'll never date within my own ethnicity)
But, not so much with Koreans. My close friend is a 2nd gen raised in the US and I find him very candid and fun to be with.

You mention frequently how family is the stumbling block in relationships with asian men, but it doesn't seem that surprising since you're also talking about gay relationships here, given the conservative nature of many Asian cultures.Terrell said:I live in Vancouver. I crack on the weeaboos alot, my basis on the fetishization of Asian, or maybe more specifically Japanese culture. I just don't know what's so great about it.
Being Korean myself, I find so many issues with it, filial piety, Confucian ideals, status issues. Blah.

stereotypes piss me off but people who actually live up to these stereotypes piss me off even more!

Exactly.Erico said:Honestly, I don't see how this new interest in Asian culture movement is any different from the francophiles and European culture lovers that preceded it (at least in the United States).
Just replace anime with European arthouse films, sushi bars with French coffee houses, and the snobbish "Japan is superior" people with snobbish "European culture is so much more sophisticated" people. People are interested foreign cultures, it's nothing new.
